  71. This package contains Win Multiple Configurations, by JRE Enterprises.
  72. This document contains only a brief description of the package and its
  73. features, along with instructions for its installation.  After unzipping
  74. Win Multiple Configurations, view INSTALL.WRI for additional
  75. installation instructions.

  77. Win Multiple Configurations (WMC) will allow you to save and use up to
  78. one-hundred different desktops.  This includes having different
  79. SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI configurations.  Create desktops specific for
  80. your children, husband, wife and/or co-worker(s).  Also, password
  81. protect any or all saved configuration entries -- a good way to protect
  82. against accidental access to certain applications and/or critical data.
  83. WMC requires VBRUN300.DLL and Windows 3.1.  WMC now supports
  84. installation on a server and being accessed by client workstations.

  86. Win Multiple Configurations is a shareware program.  This evaluation
  87. version includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any
  88. way. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge.  If you like the
  89. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  90. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.WRI for more details).
  91. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  92. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and

  112. other types of files.  Writer's Cramp is a simple, small, inexpensive

  186. Win Multiple Configurations (WMC) requires Windows 3.1 and VBRUN300.DLL.
  187. VBRUN300.DLL must be accessible via the path, normally it is found in
  188. the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  189.  
  190. To install Win Multiple Configurations, run SETUP.EXE.
  191.   WMC now supports being installed on a server and accessed by many
  192.   clients.  For server installations, use the OPTIONAL INSTALL method,
  193.   which places all executables (exe, com, bat, dll, vbx) in the
  194.   application directory.  WMC also supports each client machine or each
  195.   user having their own WMC data directory, where saved configuration are
  196.   stored.  This can be use in a standalone or client/server installation
  197.   and allows up to 100 saved configurations per WMC data directory.
  198.  
  199. There are now four different ways to use WMC; Classic, Enhanced-Classic,
  200. Client/Server, Enhanced Client/Server.
  201.  
  202. Classic WMC:
  203.  Classic WMC is where WMC is installed on each workstation.  The person
  204.  or group of people using the workstation can save up to 100 Windows
  205.  configurations.  The 100 saved configurations are shared amongst the
  206.  people using the workstation.
  207.  
  208.  WMC is installed using either the STANDARD or OPTIONAL installation
  209.  method on each workstation.  Up to 100 configurations can be saved and
  210.  restored on each workstation. Saved configurations are stored in the WMC
  211.  installation directory.  All users of the workstation share the 100
  212.  configurations.  This is the standard way to use WMC and was the only
  213.  way to use WMC prior to Version 7.0.
  214.  
  215. Enhanced-Classic WMC:
  216.  Enhanced-Classic WMC is where WMC is installed on each workstation. The
  217.  person or group of people using the workstation can save up to 100
  218.  Windows configurations per WMC Data directory.  Each person can specify
  219.  their own WMC Data directory and need not share it with other people.
  220.  
  221.  WMC is installed using either the STANDARD or OPTIONAL installation
  222.  method on each workstation.  The WMCDATAPATH environment variable must
  223.  be set before using WMC to a "WMC Data Directory", which is a directory

  238. Client/Server WMC:
  239.  Client/server WMC only supports the situation where each person or group
  240.  use only one client workstation (Person A always uses workstation 1,
  241.  Persons C and D always uses workstation 2).  Client/server WMC does not
  242.  support a person or group using multiple client workstations (Person A
  243.  uses workstation 1 and uses workstation 2).  Enhanced Client/Server WMC
  244.  supports the use of multiple client workstations by an individual in
  245.  certain situations.

  247.  WMC is installed using the OPTIONAL installation method on a server.
  248.  Client workstations connect to the server to execute WMC.  Run
  249.  CSSETUP.EXE, found in the WMC installation directory on the server, for
  250.  each client to set up the WMC Program Manager Group and icons on the
  251.  client(s).  The WMCDATAPATH environment variable must be set before
  252.  using WMC to a "WMC Data Directory", which is a directory other than the
  253.  WMC installation directory. The directory can reside on the server or
  254.  the client workstation.  The WMC DATA Directory must be a unique
  255.  directory for each client workstation if the directory(s) reside on a
  256.  server.  Up to 100 configurations can be saved and restored per WMC Data
  257.  Directory.  If each user of the workstation sets the WMCDATAPATH
  258.  environment variable to a different WMC Data Directory, then each user
  259.  can save and restore up to 100 configurations.  In this case, the
  260.  WMCUSER environment variable must also be set before using WMC to a
  261.  unique value for each user; otherwise, WMC will not work properly.

  272.  under certain situations it can also support a person or group using

  274.  workstation 2).  If a person uses multiple client workstations, then
  275.  Enhanced Client/Server WMC will work if each of the client workstations
  276.  are the same in hardware and software configuration.  WMC saves and
  277.  restores the Windows SYSTEM.INI file, which contains hardware and
  278.  software specifics for a workstation.  If the SYSTEM.INI values do not
  279.  match the workstation hardware and software specifics, then Windows may
  280.  not start!

  305.  If you are using a windows shell program other than Program Manager or
  306.  Norton Desktop, you will have to manually create groups and group items
  307.  for WMC.  We recommend creating a group WMC.  In group WMC, create
  308.  seven items:

  344. GP fault occurs when run on a 286 machine.  Problem is due to a bug in
  345. VBRUN300.DLL.  You must use VBRUN300.DLL dated 5/12/93 or later to fix
  346. this problem.
