  1.                             INSTALLATION NOTES
  2.                      PRIVATE SECRETARY(tm) FOR WINDOWS
  3.                      =================================

  6. Private Secretary can be installed from DOS or from Windows.
  7. If you choose to load from DOS, you must quit Windows.  Setup
  8. will not run from the DOS shell of Windows.
  9.  
  10. Each step is described for both DOS and Windows, where there
  11. is a difference.  The instructions assume you are installing
  12. from a diskette in drive B: and your windows directory is on
  13. drive C:.  If this is not the case, simply substitute the correct
  14. drive specification where required.

  16. STEP 1 (diskette install only)
  17. Insert the diskette into your floppy drive.

  19. STEP 2
  20. WINDOWS: Select RUN from the program managers FILE menu.
  21.  
  22. DOS: At the DOS prompt, change the current drive to the drive in
  23.      which you have the diskette.  For example, if you have the
  24.      diskette in your B drive, type B:<return>
  25.      If you have the Private Secretary files on hard disk, change
  26.      to the directory the files are in (example: cd C:\DOWNLOAD).

  28. STEP 3
  29. WINDOWS: Type B:\SETUP (or alternate floppy or complete pathname
  30.                         if installing from hard disk)
  31.          in the command field of the dialog box or locate the
  32.          setup program on the diskette or hard drive with the
  33.          browse button.  Then click on OK.

  35. DOS: Type WIN SETUP<return>.

  37. STEP 4
  38. The setup program will initialize, decompressing the files required
  39. to complete installation and then ask for a directory in which to 
  40. install Private Secretary.

  42. If you have an earlier version of Private Secretary, to save having
  43. to reenter all your settings, you should install this version in
  44. the same directory.  The new version will use your existing
  45. settings files and they will still be useable by your previous
  46. version if ever needed.

  48. Installation is complete - To start Private Secretary, double click the
  49. Private Secretary 303 program Icon.

  51. Using the Log File
  52. Private Secretary creates a program item for the log file (PS_LOG.TXT)
  53. in the Program Group using a generic icon.  The file itself does not
  54. exist until Private Secretary has sent something to it.  After which,
  55. to use this item you may need to assign an association.  Launch the
  56. Windows File Manager and locate your PS_LOG.TXT file, click on it to
  57. select it.  Then pull down the File menu and select Associate.  You
  58. can select "notepad.exe" or "write.exe" or a text processor of your
  59. choice.  Notepad has the advantage of being able to view the file
  60. without specifying if you want to change the format each time you
  61. view the file.  Write has the advantage of being able to set tabs.
  62. Once you've made your selection, Click OK and exit the File Manager.

  64. If you would like to change the Icon for your Log File, click on the
  65. Log File icon to select it, then select the Properties item under the
  66. Program Managers File menu.  Click the Change Icon button.  You can
  67. enter "notepad.exe", "write.exe" or your favorite text processor or, 
  68. you can choose any one of the Program Manager built in icons.
