601 WWWW is a World Wide Web Search Engine which you can use to search for information of interest worldwide. WWWW allows you to locate almost any WWW hypertext
602 (text seen underlined in a Web Browser) or WWW information resource (URL), simply by specifying some keywords. WWWW provides four types of search databases:
603 citation hypertext, citation addresses (URL), HTML titles and HTML addresses. The latter two are much smaller databases, which can therefore be searched faster. For explanation of the terms HTML,
604 URL and citation see the definitions section below. The basic paramters for a search are specified by filling in the WWWW Search Form.\n\n
605 You begin by selecting which of the four search capabilities you want. A search is specified by giving a list of keywords separated by spaces. Keywords are not case sensitive.
606 Furthermore any non-alphanumeric characters in keywords are replaced by spaces. Finally keywords of one or two characters, and certain common three and four character words, are omitted.
607 For example there are simply too many words in WWW files that contain the string http to allow efficient searches. Effectively then the WWWW changes your keywords to a new set. It uses this latter set to perform its search. \n
608 You can tell the WWWW that you want to locate only documents that contain all of your keywords (Choose AND), or to locate all documents that contain any one or more of your keywords
609 (Choose OR). Finally the user can control the number of results returned, by selecting anywhere from 1 to 5,000 results. Often one starts with a small number and then increases the requested number if this is not sufficient. \n
