  1. Using VSHARE.386
  2. ----------------
  3. VSHARE.386 eliminates the need for SHARE.EXE when you run Windows 3.1
  4. or Windows for Workgroups in 386 enhanced mode. If you run Windows 3.1
  5. in standard mode, you still need to run SHARE.EXE. If you run
  6. applications that are not compatible with SHARE.EXE, and you run
  7. Windows 3.1 in 386 enhanced mode, you may be able to use VSHARE.386
  8. instead of SHARE.EXE.

  11. To install the updated VSHARE.386 file
  12. --------------------------------------
  13. If you are running Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or 3.11 in 386 enhanced
  14. mode, you are already using VSHARE.386. If you are running Windows
  15. 3.1, use the following procedure to install VSHARE.386 version
  16. 3.11.0.401:
  17.  
  18. 1. Quit Windows 3.1.
  19.  
  20. 2. Insert the enclosed disk in the appropriate floppy disk drive.
  21.  
  22. 3. To copy the file to the Windows SYSTEM subdirectory, type the
  23.    following at the MS-DOS command prompt and then press ENTER
  24.  
  25.       copy <drive>:\vshare.386 <destination>
  26.  
  27.    where <drive> is the floppy disk drive containing the DJLOPE disk
  28.    and <destination> is the drive and directory of your Windows SYSTEM
  29.    subdirectory.

  31.    For example, if the DJLOPE disk is in drive A and your Windows
  32.    directory is called WINDOWS and is on drive C, type the following
  33.    at the MS-DOS command prompt and then press ENTER:

  35.       copy a:\vshare.386 c:\windows\system
  36.  
  37. 4. Using a text editor (such as MS-DOS Editor), edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  38.    file and remove the command for SHARE.EXE.
  39.  
  40. 5. Edit the [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI file to add the
  41.    following line:

  43.       device=vshare.386
  44.  
  45. 6. Save the SYSTEM.INI file and load Windows normally.
