  30. INTRODUCTION:
  31. -------------
  32. TextPad is designed to provide the power and functionality to satisfy the
  33. most demanding text editing requirements.  It is Windows hosted, and comes
  34. in 16 and 32-bit editions.  Huge files can be edited by either - just
  35. choose the edition that works best with your PC.  The 32-bit edition can
  36. edit files up to the limits of virtual memory (see Specifications in the
  37. on-line help for full details), and it will work with Windows 95, NT and
  38. Windows 3.1 with Win32s extensions.

  40. To find out more, install TextPad by referring to the instructions below,
  41. and then read the introduction in the on-line help file.

  44. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  45. ---------------------
  46.     16-bit Edition:             32-bit Edition:
  47.       o 386SX with 4MB RAM        o 486SX with 4MB RAM (12MB for NT)
  48.       o 1MB free disk space       o 1MB free disk space
  49.       o Windows 3.1 in 386        o Windows NT 3.51, Windows 95 or
  50.          enhanced mode               Windows 3.1 with Win32s 1.3

  52. INSTALLATION:
  53. -------------
  54.     TextPad has a setup program which configures it for the version of
  55.     Windows that you are using.  Some things will not work (including
  56.     the uninstall program) if you don't install it correctly.  You have
  57.     been warned!
  58.     
  59.     To install TextPad from a ZIP file:
  60.     
  61.         1) Unzip into an empty temporary folder, with PKUNZIP 2.04g.
  62.         2) Run SETUP.EXE, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  63.         3) Be sure to install TextPad into a different folder from the
  64.            one used in step 1 above.
  65.         4) Delete the files unzipped in step 1 above.

  67.     IMPORTANT NOTES:
  68.  
  69.     + If you intend to use the 32-bit edition with Windows 3.1 or 3.11,
  70.       you must install Win32s 1.3 first.  This also installs the 16-bit
  71.       OLE2 files.  If you have Internet access, you can obtain it from:

  75.       CompuServe users can download Win32s from forum WINSHARE as
  76.       WN32SOLE.ZIP.

  78.     + If you want to associate file extensions with TextPad, do it using
  79.       the Associations tabs on the Preferences dialog box.  This ensures
  80.       that TextPad is started with the correct parameters, and it enables
  81.       the uninstall program to clean up afterwards.

  83.     + If you have previously used an unregistered copy of TextPad, its
  84.       OLE2 drag and drop capability may have been disabled.  To enable
  85.       it, start TextPad (without opening any files) and choose the
  86.       Preferences command from the Configure menu.  Make sure that the
  87.       "Enable OLE drag and drop" box is checked on the General tab.

  89. WHAT'S NEW:

  91.     New features include a keystroke macro recorder, and a spelling checker.
  92.     See the on-line help for full details of what's new in this release.

  94. RESTRICTED FEATURES:
  95. --------------------
  96.     The following restrictions apply to unregistered copies of TextPad:
  97.  
  98.     1) Only 2 keystroke macros can be added to the Macros menu, instead
  99.        of up to 16.

  101.     2) Searching of subfolders is disabled on the Find in Files dialog box.

  103. REGISTRATION:
  104. -------------
  105.     If you make use of TextPad you must register it.  Registered users
  106.     will be licensed to use both the 16 and 32-bit editions.  There are
  107.     separate prices for downloading the software yourself, and receiving
  108.     a copy on diskettes.
