  5. INTRODUCTION
  6. ------------
  7. Icons Control is designed to display as many Windows icons as possible in a 
  8. 10x10 grid. Icons can be copied, renamed, moved, and erased with a click of 
  9. the mouse. Hardcopy of icons can be printed on any printer supported by 
  10. Windows. Icons Control can even display icons embedded inside DLL or EXE 
  11. files. Displayed icons can be edited, converted to bitmaps, or extracted to 
  12. ICO format (in the DLL or EXE viewing mode.)  In addition, 32x32-pixel bitmaps 
  13. can also be converted to ICO format. Conversion and extraction can be done in 
  14. batch mode, thus saving a considerable amount of time for those of you with 
  15. large number of icons to process. Furthermore, any portion of the screen can 
  16. be captured into an icon or bitmap. For a complete description of Icons 
  17. Control, please refer to the help file accessible by clicking on the Help 
  18. icon from outside as well as inside the program.

  21. INSTALLATION
  22. ------------
  23. Run SETUP from the Windows File Manager.  You will be asked to enter a 
  24. directory to install Icons Control (default is Icnctrl.)  For users who 
  25. download the Icons Control package from the internet, you may need to 
  26. download a copy of VBRUN300.DLL from the same site.  Since VBRUN300.DLL is 
  27. about 300K and almost everyone running a Visual Basic application have it, 
  28. I am not including it in the zip file to save disk space and download time.  
  29. Users who wish to receive the software on a 3.5" floppy disk will have every 
  30. files needed (including the VBRUN300.DLL) to run the software.

  33. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
  34. ------------------------------
  35. * Any computer running Windows 3.1/Windows 95.
  36. * A standard VGA (a Windows-accelerated graphic board is recommended.)
  37. * A mouse or trackball.
  38. * Any printer supported by Windows (optional.)

  40. Icons Control has been developed and tested on a 486DX66 with 8MB of RAM, a 
  41. 1 MB Diamond Stealth 24 Windows accelerator board (at screen resolutions 
  42. 640x480x16, 640x480x256, 640x480x65536, 800x600x256, 800x600x65536,
  43. 1024x768x16, and 1024x768x256), a trackball, and mouse.  It has also
  44. been tested on a 100 MHz Pentium-based machine with 16 MB of RAM, a 1 MB 
  45. Diamond Stealth 64 SE (PCI) with the same above settings.

  47. NOTE: Icons Control may not run properly on video modes higher than 65,536 
  48.       colors. If you encounter "OUT OF MEMORY" errors when running Icons 
  49.       Control, I recommend running Windows at a lower color depth. Some of 
  50.       you may confuse between color depth and resolution. Color depth 
  51.       determine the number of colors are available for displaying images 
  52.       (16, 256, 64K, or 16M (24-bit color.) Screen resolution is the number 
  53.       of pixels available on screen (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, or 1280x1024.)

  56. REGISTRATION
  57. ------------
  58. Icons Control is both freeware and shareware.  Freeware users are free to use 
  59. it to view, copy, mode, delete, and rename icons.  Icons Control even displays 
  60. icons embedded inside DLL and EXE files.  The displayed icons cannot be 
  61. extracted, edited, or converted.  The extraction, editing, and conversion 
  62. functions are only available in the registered versions (shareware.)  There 
  63. is no evaluation period to use Icons Control.  You may use it as long as you 
  64. want.  But in order to use the above-mentioned functions, you must register 
  65. to obtain the registered version.

  68. PAYMENT TERMS
  69. -------------
  70. Registration is $25.  Registered users will receive the latest version 
  71. through internet email (uuencoded.) If you prefer to receive the software on 
  72. a 3.5" floppy disk, the fee is $29.  As of this writing, I only accept money 
  73. orders, cashier checks, bank checks, or personal checks (MUST be payable 
  74. through a U.S. bank).  International users can transfer the $25 fee to my 
  75. Bank of America account directly.  This type of payment requires an 
  76. additional $10 because BoA charges my account $10 for the transfer fee. 
  77. Send me e-mail for my account number and confirmation.  Compuserve users 
  78. can register on-line and obtain the registered version within 24 hours.  
  79. My Compuserve Author Registration ID is 7437. A collection of over 1,600
  80. icons sorted in 25 different categories is also available for an additional
  81. $10, please see the REGISTER.TXT file for more info.  Please fill in the 
  82. information sheet in the REGISTER.TXT form and mail it along with your

  89. A single user license permits a user to use Icons Control only on a single
  90. computer.  Licensed users may use the program on different computers as long 
  91. as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it is being 
  92. used at another, or on a network by more than one user at a time.

  94. A site license is required by a corporation, company, educational institution, 
  95. or governmental agency for use of Icons Control software on the total number 
  96. of computers that will use the software.
