Stereo creates Random-dot Autostereograms and runs under Windows.
It consists of the single file
STEREO.EXE
The program draws Random-dot Autostereograms using an algorithm
developed by Harold Thimbleby at Stirling University. See New Scientist
9 October 1993.
It can create Autostereograms from a bitmap in the clipboard and has
a simple "movie". Autostereograms can be printed.
The Background option allows you to take the background
pattern from the clipboard rather than having to use
random dots
The Icons option displays an example of an autostereogram
where the "background pattern" matches the "foreground"
stereo image
A few users have had difficulty printing stereograms to a laser printer.
We've been unable to replicate the problems. Make sure that the 'Mono'
option is checked and that the 'Magnification' isn't so large that the
picture is bigger than the paper. If all else fails, you can:
- display the stereogram (in Mono) on the screen
- press Alt-PrintScreen to copy the window to the clipboard
- paste the clipboard into your favourite word processor
document (e.g. Microsoft Write)
- print the document
Stereo is freeware. You can give it away so long as it has not been
modified. You may not sell it but you may charge reasonable copying
and distribution fees.
