  7. #### PLEASE UNZIP USING THE -d OPTION ####

  10. GENERAL INFORMATION
  11. -------------------

  13. This version of Surfer Central is classified as shareware. You have 30
  14. days to evaluate Surfer Central after which continued use requires that 
  15. you register the program.
  16.  
  17. The shareware version of the program is freely distributable.

  20. UPGRADING
  21. ---------

  25. If you are upgrading to version 1.10 of Surfer Central there is one
  26. important item of note: If you want to keep your existing setup (i.e.
  27. Window size, site list header, winsock tools configuration, etc.), 
  28. when you are presented with the dialog box that allows you to select 
  29. the type of installation (full, minimal, custom) choose the Custom
  30. option. When prompted for groups of files to install, deselect the
  31. User Initialization file option. You may allow the installation 
  32. to continue and safely copy over old versions of the files. The new
  33. version (1.10) will read your old SURFRCEN.INI file correctly.

  36. INSTALLATION
  37. ------------

  39. ** IMPORTANT **  --  if you have not unziped the zip file 
  40. SURFR10.ZIP using the -d option, please delete the files that
  41. you have uncompressed and repeat the unzipping process using
  42. the command:
  43.  
  44.         PKUNZIP -d SURFR110.ZIP
  45.  
  46. After the files have been correctly uncompressed you should be
  47. left with two files in the directory (INSTALL.EXE and INSTALL.INF)
  48. along with this file as well as a subdirectory named DISK1 
  49. containing the Surfer Central program files.
  50.                                      
  51. To install Surfer Central, run INSTALL.EXE from within Windows 
  52. and follow the instructions. After installation you will be presented
  53. with a readme file (this one). Please EXIT NotePad when you have
  54. completed reading the file.

  57. NOTE: If you have not yet loaded Windows, you may type INSTALL from
  58. the DOS prompt (in the directory where INSTALL.EXE is located) and
  59. Windows will be loaded automatically.

  62. OTHER NOTES
  63. -----------

  65. - A handy uninstall utility has been included with Surfer Central.
  66.   To remove the program from your system, find the Windows Program
  67.   Manager group containing the Surfer Central icon. Also in this
  68.   group will be an icon marked 'Uninstall Surfer Central'. Simply
  69.   click here and the program will be completely removed
  70.  
  71.         IMPORTANT: Your data files will also be deleted if they
  72.         are contained in a subdirectory beneath the Surfer Central
  73.         directory (e.g. in \SURFRCEN\DATABASE).

  75. - A printed manual has not been included with this version of Surfer
  76.   Central. However, FULL details about all program functions and
  77.   procedures for registration are provided in the Help file. To view
  78.   this information, run Surfer Central by double-clicking on the
  79.   program icon and choose Contents from the Help menu.

  81. - Surfer Central has NOT been thoroughly tested using Windows 95. 
  82.   Preliminary tests suggest that the program is <nearly> fully 
  83.   compatible with Windows 95. The only known problem is with the
  84.   HWA contents tree - clicking topics on the tree does not change
  85.   to the corresponding topic in the help window. This problem is
  86.   currently being investigated by Olson Software (makers of HWA).

  89. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  90. --------------

  92. As of version 1.10 of Surfer Central, there is only one known problem:
  93.  
  94.   - Making a change to the site entry area and clicking either on the
  95.     sites listbox or category tabs without first updating or inserting
  96.     the changes may cause minor problems. The mouse seems to enter a 
  97.     dragging state where the mouse cursor changes to a circle with a 
  98.     line through it. If this occurs, move the mouse around until it's 
  99.     in a position where it remains as the circle and click the primary 
  100.     mouse button (usually the left button). In the case of the sites 
  101.     listbox, click the button anywhere within the listbox, and for the 
  102.     category tabs, click the button on the currently selected (gray) 
  103.     tab. The program will then function normally.
