  41. *** 1. About nnCOPY ***
  42.  
  43. Exchanging files between team members of a bigger software project can 
  44. be a difficult chore. Did you ever had problems like "oops, Mark and I 
  45. edited the same file", or like "I can't compile because I don't have 
  46. all of the most recent files of other team members"? 
  47.  
  48. Did you ever wish Windows had a way to assign ownership to files, so it 
  49. would be easier to see who has the right to change what? May be you 
  50. evaluated or are using version control software and found out that 
  51. that type of software is nice, but not so convenient to exchange files
  52. between team members on a daily basis.
  53.  
  54. Are you using Explorer to copy files you changed to a shared drive, so 
  55. other members can use them? Selecting your changed files and copying
  56. them to the shared drive by checking the time stamp one by one can be 
  57. very time consuming, however overwriting all files can be dangerous. 
  58. Doing so, did you ever accidentally overwrite files you are not 
  59. supposed to do?
  60.  
  61. nnCOPY v1.0e for Windows addresses all of these problems. It is a 
  62. project management and copy tool for software development teams. nnCOPY
  63. is a 32 bit Windows program and has a modern user interface with an 
  64. easy point and click operation. 
  65.  
  66. nnCOPY allows you to define projects and their team members. A project 
  67. repository is located on a shared drive. It can be on any networked 
  68. drive that is accessible by all team members. Each team member has an 
  69. identical copy of the project directories and files on his/her local 
  70. drive. An easy to use wizard helps you to do the steps of defining a 
  71. new project.

  73. nnCOPY allows you to see the directory structure of a project. You can 
  74. use nnCOPY to assign ownership to individual files, even under Windows!
  75. A table displaying the files of the current directory allows you to see
  76. who owns what file, see if the files on the local side and repository
  77. are in sync or need to be updated. 
  78.  
  79. Directories on the local drive and the repository can be synchronized. 
  80. Exchanging files depending on ownership, e.g. "copy all files I changed
  81. recently", or "get the most recent files from all other team members" 
  82. is just a push of a button away. 
  83.  
  84. A comment can be added to individual files, e.g. "Compiles, but not 
  85. debugged", "Bug B-0132 fixed" or "80% complete". This is useful to get 
  86. an overview of the status of a project.

  88. A history function allows you to trace the history of file operations. 
  89. This allows you to see who copied, deleted or changed ownership of 
  90. files on what day. 
  91.  
  92. An easy point and click "Compare Files" operation allows you to see 
  93. what is different between a file on the local side and its 
  94. corresponding file in the repository. (This function needs an external 
  95. diff program, not supplied by Denso Create Inc.)
  96.  
  97. The line end format of text files (CR or CR+LF or LF) can be changed 
  98. automatically during the copy operation in case the repository is not
  99. on a Windows machine. This is an important feature for multiplatform 
  100. development, where you want to maintain only one file repository. 
  101.  
  102. nnCOPY's file owner and copy management is not dependent on any 
  103. network OS or file locking mechanism. A shared drive on any network is
  104. sufficient. 
  105.

  120. *** 2. System requirements ***
  121.  
  122. nnCOPY for Windows is a 32 bit Windows application. A shared drive is
  123. needed to store common accessible files. It can be on any file server 
  124. that is mapped to a DOS drive. 
  125.  
  126. Details:
  127. o PC:         IBM PC compatible.
  128. o OS:         Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0,
  129.               all English versions.
  130.               (Runs on Japanese Windows, but no guarantee. No support 
  131.               for file names with double byte characters)
  132. o Processor:  Intel 80486 or Pentium.
  133. o Min. RAM:   8 MB for Windows 95, 16 MB for NT.
  134. o Hard disk:  2 MB free space for program.
  135. o Network:    Any network that allows to map or mount a shared drive as 
  136.               a DOS drive (example: N:). Files on a mounted drive must 
  137.               show the correct file time stamp to assure correct 
  138.               operation of nnCOPY.
  139. o Display:    VGA or better.
  140.  
  141. NOTE: A Japanese version of nnCOPY is available. This is a commercial 
  142.       version that runs on the Japanese Microsoft Windows 95, NT 3.51 
  143.       and NT 4.0. Please see ReadmeJP.txt for more details.

  147. *** 3. Installing, Updating and Uninstalling nnCOPY ***
  148.  
  149. nnCOPY comes with a convenient and flexible Setup utility, which allows 
  150. you to install, update and uninstall nnCOPY.

  153. How to install nnCOPY
  154. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  155. o If you have obtained nnCOPY as a compressed file, uncompress the 
  156.   file into a temporary folder on a hard disk.
  157.  
  158. o Open the folder containing the uncompressed set of nnCOPY files,
  159.   double-click Setup.exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
  160.  
  161. o Setup utility will copy the files into a folder you specify.
  162.   Note: Except for the files copied into the destination folder and 
  163.   for the shortcuts added to the Start Menu, Setup does not install or 
  164.   modify any other files on your computer.
  165.  
  166. o After the installation has been complete, you may delete the files
  167.   from the temporary folder, from which you were installing nnCOPY.
  168.  
  169. o If you purchased a license for continued use of nnCOPY, you may
  170.   enter the registration confirmation into the Shareware Registration 
  171.   dialog box. (See chapter 4. This is Shareware)

  174. How to update nnCOPY
  175. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  176. You may get the latest version of nnCOPY at any time from our web page,
  177. http://www.dcinc.co.jp/e/prod/nncpy/ . Look at the "About nnCOPY" 
  178. dialog box to find out what version you currently have. To update 
  179. nnCOPY do this:

  181. o Follow the instructions on "How to uninstall nnCOPY".

  183. o Follow the instructions on "How to install nnCOPY". 
  184.  
  185. o Reenter your registration confirmation. (See chapter 4. This is 
  186.   Shareware)

  188. NOTE: The update process will leave all your nnCOPY projects intact,
  189.       so you don't need to reenter your projects.

  192. How to uninstall nnCOPY

  194. o Select the 'Uninstall nnCOPY' item in the Start Menu and follow the 
  195.   instructions on the screen.

  199. o Open folder 'Control Panel' and double-click on 'Add/remove programs'.

  201. o Find the line "nnCOPY v1.0e for Windows" in the list of products and
  202.   double-click on it. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  206. *** 4. This is Shareware ('Try Before You Buy' Software) ***

  208. What is Shareware?
  209. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  210. nnCOPY is NOT freeware or public domain software. It is software which 
  211. you can "try before you buy", this is called shareware.
  212.  
  213. You may install the program in your system and use it for an evaluation
  214. period of up to 30 days. After that time, you are required to purchase 
  215. a license for continued use of the software or else stop using it. You 
  216. may freely copy and distribute evaluation copies of nnCOPY provided
  217. that all conditions specified in the distribution license are satisfied
  218. (please see the license agreement in the VENDINFO.DIZ file). Any other
  219. use of the software is in violation of international and national 
  220. copyright laws.

  222. Shareware has the following advantages over commercial software:

  224. o You can try the software out for free. This allows you to find out if 
  225.   the software fits your needs. If satisfied, you can purchase it in
  226.   order to get a license for continued use of the software.

  228. o You get more for your money. The shareware producer doesn't need to
  229.   have big expenses on sales and marketing, like brochures, ads and
  230.   so on. This in turn keeps the price of shareware programs low.

  232. o You can search software on-line, sometimes using keywords (example:
  233.   'synchronize'). This allows you to find the software that fits your

  242. What's the difference between the Evaluation and the Licensed version?
  243. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  244. There is NO functional difference between the evaluation and licensed 
  245. versions of nnCOPY, all features of the licensed version are available 
  246. and can be used in the evaluation version. Actually, it IS the same 
  247. program. You may convert an evaluation copy to a registered copy by 
  248. entering the registration confirmation we provide you into the 
  249. "Shareware Registration" dialog box.

  251. The only difference between the licensed and evaluation versions is 
  252. the "About nnCOPY" dialog box, which is displayed when starting the 
  253. evaluation versions of nnCOPY. It is a reminder that the software must 
  254. be registered if intended for continued use.

  257. How to Register
  258. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  259. If you decide that you want to keep the software you must register
  260. nnCOPY within 30 days of use. You can register nnCOPY by entering your
  261. registration confirmation (Registered User Name, the Number of 
  262. Registered Users and the Registration ID) into the Shareware 
  263. Registration dialog box, accessible from the "Help" -> "About nnCOPY"
  264. menu command.

  266. To obtain a Registration Package that contains your registration 
  267. confirmation, you must purchase a license for continued use of nnCOPY.

  292. *** 5. Attention and Known Problems ***
  293.  
  294. Read Only Files
  295. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  296. The current version of nnCOPY does not support files with the read only 
  297. flag set. Please remove the read only flag of all files you manage
  298. using nnCOPY. This is feasible because nnCOPY guards against 
  299. accidental loss of files. Trying to overwrite a file with the read 
  300. only flag set will show a "Error: Access is denied" error message.

  303. Long File Names
  304. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  305. nnCOPY does support long file names. However, nnCOPY can't copy files 
  306. with long names to a shared drive that doesn't support long file names 
  307. (e.g. NetWare v4.1). A misleading message "Error: Access is denied" is 
  308. shown if you try to do so.
