  25. RemoveR helps you to prevent unused junk from filling your hard drive.

  30. One day I ended up with a 180Mb Windows directory - I didn't know where
  31. the files came from, nor which of them were still used. I decided to
  32. start from scratch, reinstall windows & write a utility to help keep
  33. an eye on these sneaky programs that dump stuff all around my drives.

  38. Fed up with trying various shareware packages from CDs or the Net and
  39. having them spew files all over your drives ? If you are RemoveR is for
  40. you.
  41.  
  42. Sadly not all programs come with uninstall utilities (and those that
  43. do often miss files). To get around this I developed RemoveR.
  44.  
  45. Simply scan the hard drive of your choice before installing a piece of
  46. software, RemoveR will take a snapshot of your files and save it.
  47. You can then install your software, decide its not for you, then rerun
  48. RemoveR to tell you whats been changed on your harddrive. Once the
  49. changes are listed you can chose to delete files, or to save the list
  50. so that you can uninstall the program at a later date.

  52. Main Buttons & What They Do

  55. Drive Selector : This selects what drive RemoveR will scan.
  56.  
  57. Update Scan Database : This will take a snapshot of the drive selected
  58.  in the drive selection box
  59.  
  60. Find Changes : This will compare the current status of your files with
  61.  that last stored. All files that have been added/deleted will be shown
  62.  on the results screen. From this screen you can highlight certain
  63.  files & directories and delete them, or save the list for later
  64.  deletion.

  66. Uninstall Using Saved Data File : Takes a previously saved list of
  67.  files (saved from the results screen) and allows you to select some
  68.  or all of them for deletion.
  69.  
  70. Preferences : Allows you to specify directories that you wish to ignore
  71.  such as C:\TEMP or the MS Explorer cache directory etc ... Also allows
  72.  you to set a preference so that RemoveR will only monitor your
  73.  WINDOWS directory (and all sub-directories beneath). This leads to a
  74.  huge speed gain if this is all you are interested in.

  76. The preferences screen also allows you to change the language RemoveR
  77. operates in.

  80. Other things to know
  81. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  83. * (Win3.1x ONLY) RemoveR will ignore files in hidden directories (but
  84.    will find hidden files in non-hidden directories).
  85.   (Win95) RemoveR finds all hidden files.
  86.  
  87. * If you try to delete a directory from the results screen it will
  88.    produce an alert if the directory is not empty. Often, if you are
  89.    deleting all of the files within the directory, reclicking delete
  90.    will delete it sucessfully.

  92. Windows95/NT(3.51+) users, run RmvR32.exe
  93. Windows3.x users, run RmvR16.exe

  95. (If you have both the 16 Bit and 32 Bit versions of RemoveR then stick
  96. to one version, they each store their database in a different
  97. format - using one to make it and one to read it is ASKING for trouble)

  108. What now ?

  110. This is a list of features I plan to incorporate into RemoveR. They are
  111. listed in no particular order.

  113. Some will take longer than others to do ...

  115. * Ability to scan hidden directories in Win3.1x (could be v hard)
  116. * Monitor changes to system.ini, win.ini, autoexec.bat and config.sys
  117. * Scan for updated files as well as added/deleted files (coming soon)
  118. * Adapt the application for other languages. If you feel you would like
  119.   to translate the text used in RemoveR into your native language then
  120.   please contact me .... I will of course provide you with a mention, 
  121.   and registration code for your trouble

  123. Please don't contact me about translating RemoveR into German. Due to
  124. licencing restrictions RemoveR cannot be distributed as Shareware in
  125. the German language.

  127. If YOU have any suggestions as to how I could make RemoveR that little
  128. bit better, then please mail me. A huge number of the features included
  129. since version 1.0 have been from user suggestions. Ta !

  134. I really have worked hard on this program, and I reckon it offers more
  135. than a number of commercial packages that claim to be Uninstallers or
  136. Removers (plus they can cost ú30/ú50 .... this is a mere ú5/$10).
