  22. If you want to take full advantage of the Quick Settings features,
  23. follow the instructions in this, QuickSet.hlp and other files,
  24. located in program directory! 
  25.  
  26. The information below supplements the Vadim Skoblov Quick Settings
  27. Version 1.01 release. This information is divided into the 
  28. following sections:
  29.

  39. 1.0 Installation/Uninstallation
  40. ===============================

  42. 1) Installation:
  43.  
  44. a) If program was downloaded from Internet or BBS in Self-executive, 
  45.    ".exe" format, then in order to install Quick Settings, create temp.       
  46.    directory and copy that file into it, then double-click on the file 
  47.    that you downloaded. It will extract files into this temp. directory. 
  48.    Then find Setup.exe within temp. directory and double-click on it. 
  49.    The installer will take you through the necessary setup steps.
  50.  
  51. b) If program was downloaded from Internet or BBS in Zip, ".zip" 
  52.    format, then in order to install Quick Settings, create temp. 
  53.    directory and copy that file into it. Then use any zip files 
  54.    extractor (pkunzip, Winzip or any other that you always can 
  55.    find on any BBS or on the Internet) for extraction to temp. 
  56.    directory. After extraction find Setup.exe within temp. 
  57.    directory and double-click on it. The installer will take you 
  58.    through the necessary setup steps.
  59.    
  60. By default, the following options are selected in the Quick Settings 
  61. Setup dialog box: Install all application files to the "C:\Program Files\
  62. Quick Settings V1.01 by Vadim Skoblov" directory. You can change the Filepath
  63. to the one, you want install Quick Settings to.
  64. Once installation is complete, your Quick Settings program can be found 
  65. under Start/Programs/Quick Settings V1.01 by Vadim Skoblov. Once Quick Settings
  66. has been installed, store downloaded file in a safe place. After installation 
  67. run Quick Settings! In order to run Quick Settings, select 
  68. Start/Programs/Quick Settings V1.01 by Vadim Skoblov. When program is loadding 
  69. for the first time, it adds shortcuts to your desktop, Startup group and Taskbar
  70. (for Active DeskTop IE4.0 or Win98).

  72. 2) To Uninstall Quick Settings from your system, Go to the control panel
  73.    and double-click the Add/Remove Programs applet. This will present 
  74.    a dialog box containing a list of programs installed on your 
  75.    computer. Locate the Quick Settings V1.01 by Vadim Skoblov program, 
  76.    highlight it, and click the Add/Remove button to remove it from your 
  77.    system. The uninstallation won't remove Shortcuts from the Startup 
  78.    menu, Windows Desktop or Taskbar (IE4.0 or Win98). You have to remove these 
  79.    items manually from your Startup menu and from Desktop of Windows 95.

  81. 2.0 Usage Notes
  82. ===============

  84. VERY IMPORTANT:
  85.  
  86. Never, unless you have to, after you finish work with Windows 95, just 
  87. turn power button off! First, you have to Shut down Windows by selecting
  88. Start, Shut down and then OK buttons. Otherwise you could crush Windows' 
  89. file system. As recommendation, use Scandisk in Windows 95 at least once 
  90. a week. This way you will avoid problems with software in most cases!
  91. Also check for viruses!
  92.  
  93. 1) Hardware Requirements:
  94.    
  95.    The fully functional for 30 days shareware version and registered 
  96.    version of the Quick Settings requires an IBM or compatible system, 
  97.    486/50 MHz or better microprocessor to run. A mouse or other 
  98.    pointing device, 8 MB memory or more up to 2.8 Mb hard disk space
  99.    are recommended.
  100.    
  101. 2) Software Requirements:
  102.  
  103.    Quick Settings requires Microsoft Windows 95, 98. 
  104.  
  105. 3) Quick Settings and Network
  106.    
  107.    Current version of the program is not a network version. So I do 
  108.    recommend to install Quick Settings on every computer connected
  109.    to network and do not run it from network server. Read license.txt
  110.    file, located in program's directory, for site license information.
  111.        
  112. 3.0 Troubleshooting
  113. ===================
  114.  
  115. This section provides instructions on diagnosing and solving 
  116. problems that may occur while you are running Quick Settings.
  117.  
  118. Issue: You could not launch window with new device properties, while
  119.        window with other properties for the same device already
  120.        loaded.
  121.        
  122.        Current version doesn't support launch of other device 
  123.        properties, which is already loaded. You have to use tab
  124.        control of properties window in order to switch to other 
  125.        device properties, or unload settings window by selecting 
  126.        Cancel button and then calling window with device 
  127.        properties you need. I sure that the first way is better.   
  128.  
  129. Issue: When you use program, your system freezes. 
  130.  
  131.        Quitting Quick Settings if It "Freezes"
  132.        If Quick Settings appears frozen, press [Ctrl+Alt+Del] once, 
  133.        then for Windows 95:
  134.        - Choose vsset01 from the list. 
  135.        - Select End Task button.  
  136.        Quick Settings will exit.  
  137.  
  138. Issue: When you attempt to install Quick Settings, a message appears 
  139.        telling that you do not have enough disk space, and 
  140.        the installation fails.
  141.        
  142.        If there is not at least 2.8MB of free disk space for setup 
  143.        files, the installation cannot continue. Create at least 
  144.        2.8MB of free hard disk space on one of the drives identified 
  145.        above by deleting unnecessary files and applications.
  146.  
  147. Issue: Checking your hard disk and repairing disk problems:
  148.  
  149.        Run the disk checking utility SCANDISK for your Windows 95 
  150.        version. That utility locate and repair file system errors 
  151.        on your hard disk. 
  152.  
  153.        Notes:     
  154.        ¿If you use a disk compression program (for example, 
  155.        Stacker or Superstor) check the program's manual to see if 
  156.        using SCANDISK is recommended.
  157.        ¿For more information on SCANDISK, see your Windows manual.   
  158.  
  159. Issue: You have difficulty running Quick Settings on your computer or 
  160.        program works too slow.
  161.  
  162.        You may be running Quick Settings on a 386 (or slower) 
  163.        computer, or on a 386 or 486 computer with less than 
  164.        the recommended 8 MB of memory. If you are working on 
  165.        a computer with limited system resources, your lack of 
  166.        resources can affect your computer's timing and thus the 
  167.        performance of Quick Settings.
  168.  
  169. Issue: I launched an application and nothing happened. What's going on?
  170.  
  171.        Application is anchored in the system tray, which is where the 
  172.        computer clock is displayed (the bottom right of the desktop by 
  173.        default). Find the icon of the application there by looking at 
  174.        the help string that gets displayed when the pointer remains 
  175.        over an icon for a few seconds. Then right-click on the icon 
  176.        to invoke the application's menu. 
  177.  
  178. Issue: Why did the evaluation period expire prematurely?
  179.  
  180.        The evaluation mechanism uses the computer clock. Please 
  181.        make sure that the clock is on time before installing the 
  182.        software, and don't change it during the evaluation period. 
  183.        If it is too late, try the product on another computer. 
  184.        Registering the product will eliminate the problem. 
  185.       
  186.  4.0 Technical support, available for registered users only! 
  187. ============================================================

  189. Before applying for technical support, please have the following 
  190. information ready:
  191.  
  192. - Detailed description of your problem, and the exact steps described 
  193.   in order of occurrence so I can try to reproduce the problem.
  194. - Name/make/model/speed of your computer.
  195. - Copy of your CONFIG.SYS file.
  196. - Copy of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  197. - Name/make/model/settings of your video card.
  198. - Print out of the SCANDISK in Windows 95 and press Enter.
  199. - Version of Windows you are using.
  200. - I also need a copy of your WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files; both of which
  201.   are in your Window subdirectory.
  202.

  258. 5. Bugs report
  259.    
  260.    If you've discovered a problem with the program, I'd like to hear 
  261.    about it. I may not be able to respond directly to you every time, 
  262.    but I'll look into the error and post the solution in the web site.
  263.    Please fill out Bugs report form, which you can find in Bugs.txt 
  264.    file, located in program directory. When adding a bug report item, 
  265.    please be as specific as possible. If you are seeing error messages, 
  266.    please include the message text and number. If you find an error in 
  267.    the messages of the program, please include the form name and the 
  268.    details of error (bad text, etc.).

  270. 6.0 New in Version 1.01
  271. =======================

  273. Following is a list of changes:
  274.  
  275. - No matter which font Large or Small installed on your computer,
  276.   main manu of Quick Settings can be called with just one click! 
  277.   You need double-click on Quick Settings system tray icon in case, 
  278.   if Large font installed on your computer in Version 1.0!
  279. - By selecting General under System menu item, you can call the straight 
  280.   General property of System applet of Control Panel! 
  281. - You can also view and set Power, Internet, 32bit ODBC, Tweak UI, 
  282.   Regional, Quick Time 32, Dial-Up Networking Monitor, Mail, Client Licensing 
  283.   Mode and Ms DTC Server settings if they are installed on your computer! 
  284. - Now, you can launch System Information program, if it is installed on your 
  285.   system.
  286. - When program runs at the first time, it loads QuickSet.hlp!
  287. - There are other improvements to Version 1.0
  288. - Increased Registration fee from $5 to $10!

  291. 7.0 Notes for Registered Users of Version 1.0:

  294. You won't be able to evaluate new version on your computer. Please read: New in 
  295. Version 1.01 for more information. If you would like to obtain Version 1.01 of 
  296. Quick Settings, you need to fill out Password Order Form for Version 1.01, attach 
  297. copy of E-mail with Registration number, which were sent to you. Add $5 in US funds

  304. otherwise you can keep using Version 1.0, which is a really good program!

  306. 8.0 Notes for Unregistered Users of Version 1.0:

  309. If you are using Quick Settings V1.0, as 30 days trial, and going to install 
  310. Version 1.01 instead, then be aware that amount of days you will be able to
  311. evaluate new version will be limited. For instance: If you have used Quick
  312. Settings V1.0 for 10 days, then you will have 20 days left for evaluation of
  313. new version! If you have used for more then 30 days Version 1.0, then you will 
  314. not be able to try a new version on this computer at all! Please read: New in 
  315. Version 1.01 for more information in that case or Install new version on another
  316. computer. Sorry for inconvenience, but this is against people, who have no 
  317. any intention of registering and hoping to use this program as freeware.
  318. I do not want to tolerate this at all.
