  3. Shareware
  4. Atoms, Symbols and Equations is Shareware ('try before you buy software'). If you 
  5. wish to continue using it after a 30 day trial, you must register (pay for) it.
  6.  
  7. Overview
  8. A unique interactive Multimedia Chemistry Tutor which tests students as they learn 
  9. (it uses the internal speaker if you don't have a soundcard). As far as possible, 
  10. skills are taught through familiar examples, to help reinforce general chemical 
  11. knowledge. Topics covered include: Word Equations; Elements and Symbols; Valency
  12. and Formulas; Models of Reacting Molecules (molecular models); Symbol Equations;
  13. Atomic Structure; Formation of Ions; Ions, Formulas and Equations.

  15. Options
  16. There is an option to 'trap' the user within a unit once started (to help 
  17. teachers ensure that pupils stay on task), with a password required to exit. 
  18. The decision whether to trap users and the password can be changed by running 
  19. the program 'options.exe'(click on the 'Change Options' icon in the  'Atoms
  20. Symbols & Equations' group or folder).

  22. System Requirements
  23. Almost any computer running Windows 3.1/95/98 (PC 386 or above, 4mb ram,
  24. vga/svga monitor).

  26. Installation
  27. Unzip, if necessary, and run 'Setup' and follow simple on-screen instructions.
  28. In the case of the self extracting version, simply run 'chemxa20.exe' instead.

  30. Note: the shared file, vbrun300.dll, is installed into the program folder/directory
  31. (c:\equation by default). This avoids conflicts during uninstallation and makes 
  32. installation over a network more straightforward. If you are sure that vbrun300.dll is
  33. already on your system, you can safely delete the copy in the program folder/directory.

  36. Running the Program
  37. Win 3.1 
  38. Click on the 'equations' icon in the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' group which will
  39. be on your desktop.
  40.  
  41. Win95/98
  42. From the start menu, select programs and then the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' 
  43. folder. Select the 'equations' icon to run the program.
  44.  
  45. Uninstall 
  46. Simply click on the uninstall icon to remove 'Atoms, Symbols and Equations' 
  47. from your system.
  48.  
  49. Network Installation
  50. Installation should be carried out by the network administrator and should
  51. be very easy, as all files are installed into the single program directory.
  52. However, security measures can prevent files being installed or the
  53. installation of icons in the programs menu.

  55. The uninstall icon should not be available to network users.

  57. What's new for version 2.0?
  58. 1. Answers now available to most questions.
  59. 2. Printable certificate available at the end of each unit.
  60. 3. New element symbols game.
  61. 4. More detailed Periodic Tables.
  62. 5. Automatic uninstall now included.

  65. The program has been tested for Year 2000 compliancy.
