  1. Atoms, Symbols and Equations v 2.0   ⌐Ray Le Couteur 1996-1998

  3. SHAREWARE
  4. Atoms, Symbols and Equations is Shareware ('try before you buy software'). If you 
  5. wish to continue using it after a 30 day trial, you must register (pay for) it.
  6.  
  7. OVERVIEW
  8. A unique interactive Multimedia Chemistry Tutor which tests students as they learn 
  9. (it uses the internal speaker if you don't have a soundcard). As far as possible, 
  10. skills are taught through familiar examples, to help reinforce general chemical 
  11. knowledge. New concepts are taught by frequent reference to the online Periodic
  12. Tables. The eight units are: Word Equations; Elements and Symbols; Valency
  13. and Formulas; Models of Reacting Molecules (molecular models); Symbol Equations;
  14. Atomic Structure; Formation of Ions; Ions, Formulas and Equations.

  16. OPTIONS
  17. There is an option to 'trap' the user within a unit once started (to help 
  18. teachers ensure that pupils stay on task), with a password required to exit. 
  19. The decision whether to trap users and the password can be changed by clicking
  20. the 'Change Options' icon in the 'Atoms, Symbols & Equations' group or folder.
  21.  
  22. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  23. Almost any computer running Windows 3.1/95/98 (PC, 4mb ram, vga/svga monitor).
  24.  
  25. INSTALLATION
  26. Unzip, if necessary, run 'Setup' and follow on-screen instructions.
  27. In the case of the self extracting version, simply run 'chemxa20' instead.
  28.  
  29. Note:  the shared file, vbrun300.dll, is installed into the program 
  30. folder/directory (c:\equation by default). This avoids conflicts during
  31. uninstallation and makes installation  over a network more straightforward.
  32. If you are certain that vbrun300.dll is already on your system, you can safely
  33. delete it from the program folder/directory.
  34.  
  35. NETWORK INSTALLATION
  36. Installation should be carried out by the network administrator and should
  37. be very easy, as all required files are installed into the single program 
  38. directory. However, security measures can prevent files being installed or 
  39. the installation of icons in the programs menu.
  40.  
  41. The 'Uninstall' and 'Change Options' icons should not be available to network users.
  42.  
  43. RUNNING THE PROGRAM
  44. Win 3.1 
  45. Click on the 'equations' icon in the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' group which will
  46. be on your desktop.
  47.  
  48. Win95/98
  49. From the start menu, select programs and then the 'Atoms Symbols & Equations' folder. 
  50. Then select the 'equations' icon to run the program.
  51.  
  52. YEAR 2000
  53. The program has been tested for Year 2000 compliancy.

  57. 2. Printable certificate available at the end of each unit.
  58. 3. New element symbols game.
  59. 4. More detailed Periodic Tables.
  60. 5. Automatic uninstall now included.

  62. UNINSTALL
  63. Simply click on the uninstall icon to remove 'Atoms, Symbols and Equations' 
  64. from your system.
