  11. --------------------------
  12. SmartTracker Coins contains a number of features designed to help you 
  13. quickly organize and catalog your coin collection.  Know
  14. your book collection value or review a multitude of statistical
  15. information about your colleciont.  The following notes will illustrate
  16. SmartTracker Coins' flexibility and variety of features designed to 
  17. allow maximum customization and ease of use.  Equipped with the Borland
  18. Database Engine, SmartTracker Coins is both fast and powerful.

  20.  
  21. Coin Viewer
  22. ----------------
  23. SmartTracker Coins features a scrollable Viewer, similar in appearance 
  24. to a spreadsheet layout, which lists the database elements.  Configure the 
  25. viewer to your personal preference by clicking on NAVIGATE/VIEWER.  Select 
  26. only those database items that you want to see in the viewer.  Specify the 
  27. order in which they appear and designate the space to allocate to each 
  28. element.  Expand or shrink the number of items in the viewer by adjusting 
  29. the font size.

  31. New features include the ability to edit data directly from the viewer, 
  32. complete with pull down list boxes and check boxes in a 3-D format.  Change
  33. colors in the viewer or add grid lines to suit personal tastes.   All field
  34. names may be renamed to your liking and will be reflected in the Book 
  35. Viewer as well as throughout the entire program.  All data is now loaded 
  36. into the viewer at once.  Speed buttons are available to move you to the 
  37. beginning or the end of the database.

  39. Coin Input (Edit) Window 
  40. -----------------------------
  41. Enter a multitude of information about your books in a simple, 
  42. straight-forward fashion.  Check out the RECORDS/ADD menu item or
  43. the speed button.  Enter information including: Country, Category,
  44. Condition, Face Value, Purchase Price, Market Value, Premium Value, Mint
  45. Mark, Description, Comments, Year Minted, Quantity, Date Acquired
  46. and 4 user definable fields.  Indicate special coin features such
  47. as Commemorative, Controller Coin, Key Coin, Semi Key Coin, Gold 
  48. and Silver.  Select coin as a "wanted" coin.
  49.  
  50. If you have similar items to input, save time by using the copy function
  51. (click on EDIT/COPY from the main window) to copy your original entry and 
  52. then edit the few fields that need changing.  Or you can set up a "default
  53. coin" to be used when adding new coins.  The Clear Button allows you 
  54. to clear the input fields and sets all values to the initial default values. 
  55. By clicking EDIT/DELETE from the main window you may delete an entry.  
  56.  
  57. Several fields have drop down list boxes that contain a list of all previous 
  58. entries.  This makes repetitive entries a snap by just choosing a value.  You
  59. can now browse the database while in the input window.

  61. The standard windows clipboard copy and paste functions are now available 
  62. for all fields. 
  63.  
  64. Searches
  65. --------
  66. SmartTracker Coins contains powerful search facilities.  The Search
  67. Window allows you to enter specific search criteria to locate a set of 
  68. items.  You may select to search on one field or multiple fields.  
  69. Alternatively, you may choose to search for different items in the same 
  70. field, such as looking for all coins with a condition of AU-50 and EF-45.
  71. You can search for numeric and date values, locating items less than, 
  72. greater than, less than "x" but greater than "y", or equal to the number
  73. or  date entered.  For example, you can readily find coins acquired after
  74. June 22, 1994 or find all coins with a purchase price of between $10 
  75. and $25.  All matching search items will be placed into the Coin
  76. Viewer.  Check out NAVIGATE/ SEARCH from the main menu.

  78. The Search and Replace function allows you to replace all occurrences of
  79. a field value with another value.  Simply enter the data to search for 
  80. and type in the replacement text.  Optionally have the program confirm 
  81. the replacement before it occurs.  Click on TOOLS/ SEARCH & REPLACE from
  82. the main menu.
  83.  
  84. SmartTracker Coins can assist you in locating records by searching on
  85. one field.   Find this from the main menu, NAVIGATE/LOCATE.  Choose a field,
  86. specify if the search value is case sensitive and an exact or partial match.
  87. Next, type in the value you are looking for.  The first record found 
  88. matching the criteria supplied will be highlighted in the Main Window
  89. Viewer.   Click on "LOCATE NEXT" to find the next record matching the
  90. criteria given.

  92. Sorting
  93. -------
  94. You can choose the order in which your data is displayed and used throughout
  95. the program.  You can choose any field to sort on as the primary sort.  
  96. SmartTracker Coins now allows you to perform second, third and fourth 
  97. level sorts.  If an identical field exists in the primary sort, then the 
  98. items are sorted by the secondary sort, and so on, through the fourth sort.
  99. Check out the OPTIONS/SORT ORDER menu item.
  100.  
  101. Data will be displayed in the Main Window Viewer based on the sort order
  102. defined.  Reports and Exporting Data also rely on the sort order.
  103.   
  104. Backing Up Data
  105. ---------------
  106. SmartTracker Coins offers a built in mechanism for backing up files
  107. used by the program.  Select FILE/BACK UP DATA from the menu list. You 
  108. may choose to back up three different types of data.  These are the actual
  109. data files, maintainable lists and user defined reports.  Simply select 
  110. what you would like to back up, then choose the drive and directory where
  111. the data is to be saved.   Click the "Start Backup" button to begin the 
  112. operation.

  114. Another alternative for backing up data files is to use the Export and
  115. Import commands.  You may export your entire data and then import it. 
  116. You may wish to do this if your database is so large that it cannot be
  117. backed up onto a floppy disk.  An ASCII Delimited Export File will 
  118. normally take considerably less space than the actual database file.
  119.  
  120. Multiple Databases
  121. ------------------
  122. SmartTracker Coins will support virtually an unlimited number of
  123. databases, basically confined by your hard disk space.  When restarting
  124. the program, the last database used is automatically loaded.  The 
  125. previous five databases open will be displayed at the bottom of the
  126. FILE menu command.  The name of the currently opened database is 
  127. always shown in the caption bar of the Main Window.  
  128.  
  129. Customization
  130. -------------
  131. Practically all aspects of the program can be configured and customized
  132. to the user's own preferences.  All font styles (on screen and reports)
  133. can be changed.  This allows support for foreign languages, as some 
  134. languages require special fonts and characters.  Field names may also
  135. be renamed to ones own preference or to provide foreign language 
  136. equivalents.  The screen colors are all completely changeable to one's
  137. own tastes.

  139. You may choose from three options for screen navigation, the use of
  140. speed buttons, lettered buttons or none at all.  Other options include
  141. determining screen size, date and numeric formats, and making changes 
  142. to the viewer and reports as described previously.  Select OPTIONS from
  143. the Main Window.
  144.  
  145. Networking
  146. ----------
  147. SmartTracker Coins will support usage over a network.   Multiple users
  148. may have the same database open simultaneously and all may make updates to
  149. the database.  If a change is made by one person, that change will show up
  150. for the other users after they have "Refreshed" the database.  Refreshing 
  151. is accomplished by clicking the REFRESH speed button, by scrolling the 
  152. Main Window Viewer or by adding, editing or deleting records.
  153.  
  154. Export/Import Functions
  155. -----------------------
  156. You may choose to export your data to an ASCII Delimited File or to a
  157. Dbase Compatible File.  Select RECORDS/EXPORT from the menu items.  You
  158. can rearrange the order in which the fields are exported for each record.
  159. Just highlight the field you want to change the order on and use the "UP"
  160. and "DOWN" buttons to move it anywhere in the list.  The "DEFAULT" button
  161. will set the field order back to the program default order.  If a search 
  162. is currently active, you may optionally export just the data that is 
  163. available as a result of the search.  You may still export the entire
  164. database even if a search is currently active.
  165.  
  166. Similarly you may import data from an ASCII Delimited File or a Dbase
  167. Compatible File.  Check out RECORDS/IMPORT from the main menu.  You can
  168. align the fields that are to be imported with the database fields of the
  169. program.  Line up the fields however you like using the "UP" and "DOWN" 
  170. buttons in the Field Alignment area.  If you wish to ignore one of the 
  171. import fields (not have it imported) then set the corresponding "USE" 
  172. area to "NO".  Setting this to "YES" means the field will be used for 
  173. importing.
  174.  
  175. Reports
  176. -------
  177. SmartTracker Coins comes with eight pre-defined reports for immediate
  178. use.  These layouts may be copied, modified, used or deleted.  Look at 
  179. NAVIGATE/REPORTS to see all reporting options.
  180.  
  181. Design your own report layouts.  Practically  every aspect of the report
  182. process is user configurable.  Select reports with widths of  90, 120 or
  183. 150 characters.  You may choose different fonts for the report titles, 
  184. column headers, report body and footnotes.  Select any font that has been
  185. loaded onto your computer.   Up to three report headers may be assigned 
  186. to appear at the top of each page, to use for name, address, phone number
  187. or for whatever seems appropriate.

  189. You can select only those fields you would like to print on the report.
  190. Choose the width of the fields and the order in which the fields appear. 
  191.  
  192. The reports may be grouped into sections based on the primary sort order
  193. or on the primary and secondary sort order .  Column Headers, horizontal
  194. and vertical lines are optional for some report layouts (those in a 
  195. spreadsheet style).  Set the top, bottom, and side margins to your own
  196. specifications. Also optionally include the current date at the bottom
  197. of each page.

  199. The reports may be viewed on screen before printing.  Send the report to 
  200. the printer or an ASCII text file to save on disk.  Print one page, a range
  201. of pages or the entire report.

  204. -------------------
  205. SmartTracker Coins 97 is available in 32 bit (Windows 95/NT) version.
  206. Requires a minium of 8MB Ram, 5MB of disk space and a VGA Monitor
