  18. 1.1 Unable to re-establish connection between PC and printer after
  19.     printer is turned off using the printer's power button.
  20.  
  21.     Solution: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for
  22.     10 seconds, reconnect the power cord then turn printer on using power
  23.     button.  If this still doesn't work, disconnect the power cord from
  24.     the back of the printer, and restart the PC.  After the PC has
  25.     finished booting reconnect the power cord to the printer and power it
  26.     up.
  27.     
  28. 1.2 Driver does not work after upgrading Operating System from Windows
  29.     98, Windows 98SE, or Windows ME to Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
  30.  
  31.     Solution: Disconnect the printer.  Run the following uninstaller in
  32.     the Add/Remove Programs control panel:  "photosmart Printer
  33.     130,230,7150,7345,7350,7550 (Remove Only)".  Reboot, then run the
  34.     setup.exe program on the CD that came with the printer, and follow the
  35.     directions.
  36.  
  37. 1.3 After uninstalling another device that uses USB DOT4 I/O (such as
  38.     an hp OfficeJet G85) the photosmart printer is unusable.
  39.  
  40.     Solution: It is likely that the photosmart printer had been assigned
  41.     DOT4_002 and the removal of the previously installed DOT4_001 device
  42.     has caused this confusion.  If your system has locked up, reboot it. 
  43.     Follow these steps based on operating system installed:
  44.  
  45.     Windows 2000 or XP:
  46.       a) Select Start/Settings/Printers
  47.       b) Right click on the photosmart printer and select
  48.          Properties
  49.       c) In the Properties page select the Ports tab
  50.       d) Click the checkbox for the Dot4 port your device is
  51.          attached to and assign it.
  52.  
  53.     Windows 98 or ME:
  54.       a) Select Start/Settings/Printers
  55.       b) Right click on the photosmart printer and select
  56.          Properties
  57.       c) In the Properties page select the Ports tab
  58.       d) Select the DOT4 port in the "Print to the following Port"
  59.          pulldown box.
  60.  
  61. 1.4 In certain instances, large files being printed when writing to a
  62.     card at the same time, may cause the system to become unstable:
  63.  
  64.     Solution: hp advises avoiding printing and accessing the memory card's
  65.     drive letter at the same time.
  66.  
  67. 1.5 Installation fails when computer is booted up with two printers
  68.     attached.
  69.     
  70.     Solution: This is due to multiple Plug and Play events. To install
  71.     without failure, first disconnect both printers.  Then run the
  72.     following uninstaller in the Add/Remove Programs control panel:
  73.     "Photosmart Printer 130,230,7150,7345,7350,7550 (Remove Only)".
  74.     Reboot your system.  Reinstall the printer software by running the
  75.     setup.exe program on the CD that came with the printer.  When prompted
  76.     to attach a printer, attach only one printer.  Only after installation
  77.     of has completed, attach the second printer.  The second printer will
  78.     install automatically.
  79.  
  80. 1.6 After uninstalling a photosmart 100, P1000, P1100, 1115, 1215,
  81.     1218, or 1318, your photosmart 130, 230, 7150, 7345, 7350, or 7550 no
  82.     longer works.
  83.  
  84.     Solution: Uninstall the driver for the 130, 230, 7150, 7345, 7350, or
  85.     7550 printer, then reinstall it again.  To avoid problems in the
  86.     future, uninstall the 100, P1000, P1100, 1115, 1215, 1218, or 1318
  87.     driver through the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, instead of
  88.     through the CD.
  89.  
  90. 1.7 Issues in Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 4.01 when using
  91.     Memories Disc, Share-to-Web, E-mail Settings, or anything other
  92.     programs in the Bonus Software: 
  93.  
  94.     Solution: Upgrade to a later version of Internet Explorer.
  95.  
  96. 1.8 Printer driver fails to install when an In-System Design PAKit
  97.     drive is already installed on the PC:
  98.  
  99.     Solution: Uninstall the PAKit, install the printer, and then reinstall
  100.     the PAKit drive.
  101.  
  102. 1.9 Spool32 error after printing a test page from the printer
  103.     properties window that can be reached by the following: In the Start
  104.     menu select "Settings" then "Printers". Right click on the photosmart
  105.     printer, then select properties.
  106.  
  107.     Solution: Right-click the printer tray icon and select "Open hp
  108.     photosmart series Toolbox".  Select the Configuration tab.  Uncheck
  109.     the "Display Status Window" checkbox.  Reboot the computer.
  110.  
  111. 1.10 The installer no longer works after deleting printers from the
  112.     "Start Menu/Settings/Printers" folder.
  113.  
  114.     Solution: Run the "photosmart Printer 130,230,7150,7345,7350,7550
  115.     (Remove Only)" uninstaller in the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel,
  116.     then reinstall.  For subsequent uninstalls, use the "Add/Remove
  117.     Programs" control panel.
  118.  
  119. 1.11 The installation process pauses and appears to have stopped, but the 
  120.     PC is still showing drive activity.
  121.     
  122.     Solution: In rare cases, the installer needs to search for and update
  123.     certain modules on the system, and this may take up to 10 minutes.  
  124.     When the module is found, the installer will finish the update.
  125.  
  126. 1.12 When installing a second photosmart printer, the USB cable is
  127.     incorrectly plugged in to the front camera port, and the printer
  128.     doesn't work.
  129.  
  130.     Solution: The front port on certain photosmart printers is only for
  131.     camera connections.  Plug the USB cable into the back of the printer,
  132.     then reboot the machine.
  133.  
  134. 1.13 After upgrading to the photosmart printer driver version 4.1 from
  135.     version 4.0 via the web, start menu links are split into "Photosmart
  136.     130,230,7150,7345,7350,7550"and "Photosmart Printer
  137.     130,230,7150,7350,7550".
  138.  
  139.     Solution: No links are missing.  The driver's tools and applications
  140.     are accessible from the first link, and the bundled software is
  141.     accessible from the second link.
  142.  
  143. 1.14 After bringing system out of Standby mode in Windows 98 and Windows
  144.     98 SE, the printer is disconnected and won't reconnect.
  145.  
  146.     Solution: Reboot the computer, and the printer should reconnect.
  147.  
  148. 2. hp E-Vectra Notes
  149. --------------------
  150.  
  151. When attempting to install photosmart printer on an hp E-Vectra system
  152. that has a retail version of Windows 98 or Windows 98SE an "Mgsrv32"
  153. error appears and ceases the install:
  154.  
  155. This failure only occurs when installing from the CD-ROM drive.  Choose
  156. one of these three workarounds:
  157.  
  158. a) Copy the entire CD Contents to a temporary folder and run Setup
  159.    from there.  You may delete this temporary folder once install is
  160.    complete.
  161. b) Download the driver from the web at 
  162.    "http://www.hp.com/cposupport/loc/regional.html",
  163.    install the downloaded driver, and then run Setup.exe in the
  164.    "DigitImg" folder on the CD that came with your printer.
  165. c) Add MinSPs=16 under the [386Enh] section of the System.ini file.
  166.  
  167. 3. Memory Card Access Notes
  168. ---------------------------
  169.  
  170. The NTFS File system (available in Windows 2K, XP) is not supported on
  171. memory cards.  Do not attempt to format a memory card with the NTFS
  172. file system.
  173.  
  174. Never pull a memory card out during a read or write access.  The
  175. result may leave the memory card corrupt and images unreadable.  The
  176. light next to the memory card slot lights up when a card is inserted
  177. and blinks during a read or write access.  In order to safely remove
  178. the memory card, right-click the card icon in the system tray and
  179. select "Prepare to remove card".
  180.  
  181. 4. I/O Notes
  182. ------------
  183.  
  184. When the printer is connected and is working properly, there will be
  185. several Dot4 device entries in the Device Manager (for example, Dot4,
  186. Dot4Print, Dot4Usb, Dot4 Setup Support).
  187.  
  188. 5. Application Interactions
  189. ---------------------------
  190.  
  191. In General:
  192.  
  193. Some applications do not keep changes made to the Printer Properties
  194. after a print submission.  Custom properties may require setup for
  195. each print.
  196.  
  197. Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition:
  198.  
  199. When using the Print wizard in the "Get & Fix Photo" mode, the page
  200. size for "Print Standard Sizes..." and "Print Multiple on a Page..."
  201. is set to the factory default.  Choosing a "Standard Photo Print Size"
  202. in the Layout step will only place the image within this page size. 
  203. Changing the page size using "Page Setup..." does not change the
  204. layout to fit other selected sizes.  To print on media other than the
  205. factory default (e.g. print from the phototray) use "Print..." method
  206. of the Print wizard and change the media size through "Setup...".
  207.  
  208. Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and 6.0:
  209.  
  210. If you experience disconnection problems when printing from Photoshop,
  211. lower the physical memory used by Photoshop until the problem is no
  212. longer experienced.  To get to the setting in Photoshop 5.0 select
  213. "File/Preferences/Memory & Image Cache" from the menu.  To get to the
  214. setting in Photoshop 6.0 select "Edit/Preferences/Memory & Image
  215. Cache" from the menu.
  216.  
  217. Corel Draw 7.0:
  218.  
  219. Drag and drop printing does not work.  This is fixed in version 8.0.
  220.  
  221. Microsoft Publisher 95, 97:
  222.  
  223. Large gradated fills print very slowly.
  224.  
  225. When printing on banner (continuous) paper, the "Overlap Tiles By:"
  226. setting is set to 0.25" (7mm) by default.  Set this setting to 0.0"
  227. (zero inches).  To do this, select "File/Print/Tile Printing Options"
  228. from the menu.
  229.  
  230. When printing on envelopes, the return address may be clipped.  Shift
  231. the return address to the right approximately 1" (25mm) from where the
  232. return address box shows it should  be.
  233.  
  234. Roxio Easy CD Creator 5:
  235.  
  236. Issues can occur when running Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 and the
  237. photosmart drivers at the same time on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. 
  238. Roxio has put out a patch to address this, which can be retrieved at

  241. Internet Explorer 4.01
  242.  
  243. If you encounter any problems using the Bonus Software included with
  244. your printer, it may help to upgrade Internet Explorer to any version
  245. higher than 4.01.
  246.  
  247. AOL 5.0 and higher
  248.  
  249. When printing from the AOL image viewer, the output is corrupted.  Please
  250. save the image to the computer and print from another application such as
  251. HP Photo Printing.
  252.  
  253. 6. Network Installation Notes
  254. -----------------------------
  255.  
  256. When the printer is connected to a network there is no PC access to
  257. the memory cards in the printer and the PC Save button does not work. 
  258. The E-mail button on the photosmart 7550 also does not work over a
  259. network.  Prints can be made from a memory card in the printer using
  260. the printer's front panel.  Printing is the only function supported
  261. over the network.
