  32. These WWW pages are made to introduce you to
  33.  <B>The Centre for Contemporary Art</B>
  34.  in Warsaw. They show what is happening
  35.  there and give an impression of the modern art climate in Eastern Europe. 
  36. The information presented here is provided by the department which is 
  37. responsible for documentation and information. All photographs in this
  38.  document are taken from their collection.<BR>
  39. <B>The Ujazdowski Castle</B> is stands on the site of a 13th-century stronghold of Mazovian princes,
  40.  later transformed into a hunting-lodge. In 1624 king Zygmunt III of the Vasa dynasty used
  41.  the location to erect a castle in the baroque manner. The building, frequently reconstructed,
  42.  in the 18th century became a part of a military barracks and then of the Ujazdowski Hospital
  43. , burnt down during the Warsaw Uprising. In 1954 the remaining walls were blown up;  the 
  44. reconstruction of the residence started twenty years later, in 1974, and in 1981 the castle was
  45. given over to the Centre for Contemporary Art.<P>

  48. <B>Zamek Ujazdowski</B> stoi na miejscu XIII-wiecznego grodu ksiazat mazowieckich i 
  49. pozniejszego zameczku mysliwskiego. W roku 1624 krol Zygmunt III Waza rozpoczal budowe 
  50. zamku w stylu barokowym. Wielokrotnie przebudowywana poznobarokowa rezydencja stala 
  51. sie w XVIII wieku czescia kompleksu koszarowego, a nastepnie Szpitala Ujazdowskiego, ktory
  52.  splonal w czasie Powstania Warszawskiego. Wypalone mury wysadzono w  powietrze w 1954 
  53. roku. Dwadziescia lat pozniej rozpoczeto odbudowe zamku, ktory w roku 1981 zostal 
  54. przeznaczony na siedzibe Centrum Sztuki Wspolczesnej.<P>
