WELCOME TO NETHERGATE!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Nethergate! You now
have access to days, weeks, or even months of role-playing adventure!
Nethergate is an exciting adventure set in the wild, dangerous days of
the Roman Empire. You can play a band of Roman soldiers determined to
keep order, or a group of Celtic tribesman striving to win their
freedom. It's like two games in one, and you get to experience both
sides of the fascinating storyline!
Should you run into any trouble playing Nethergate, don't hesitate to
E-mail us at spidweb@spidweb.com or call us at (206) 789-4438. You can
always find plenty of information at Spiderweb Software, Inc.'s web
site: http://www.spidweb.com.
>>> Troubleshooting <<<
Should you experience trouble with Nethergate crashing or with
odd behavior such as static in sounds or graphics, contact the creators at
the address above. First, however, there are several ways you might be
able to make the problem go away.
Question: I'm using a Gateway computer, and the terrain graphics
don't look right.
Answer: Switch your computer to 24 bit color (right-click on the
desktop and select Properties to reach the Settings area) to fix
this problem.
Question: I turned on/off automatic terrain switching and I want
to turn it off/on now.
Answer: You can change this in the Preferences window.
Question: Nethergate refuses to install!
Answer: First, make sure you have 20 megabytes of free space on the
drive you're trying to install to. Then reboot, make sure no other
programs are running, and try installing Nethergate again. If this
doesn't work, your download may be corrupted. Try redownloading.
Question: Nethergate crashes sometimes for no reason!
Answer: Several steps to try, which will eliminate many problems.
1. Sometimes files can become corrupted. If you have a lot of recurring
troubles and crashes, redownloading and reinstalling the game might help,
especially if a crash started happening after a long period of no problems.
2. Get the latest sound and graphics drivers for your computer. These
can almost always be found at the web site for your computer's manufacturer.
3. Select Preferences from the File menu, and turn off sound effects.
This will fix some problems.
4. Run Nethergate with no other programs running.
5. Make sure you have 8 megabytes of free RAM.
6. Play Nethergate in 16 bit color. To get 16-bit color, right click on
the desktop, select Properties, and click on the Settings tab.
Question: The Nethergate screen is really tiny!
Answer: Right click on the desktop, select Properties, and click
on the Settings tab. Select a different screen resolution. 800x600
resoluation is recommended.
Question: The Nethergate screen colors are all bizarre!
Answer: You need to play Nethergate in at least 16-bit color mode.
To get 16-bit color, right click on
the desktop, select Properties, and click on the Settings tab.
Question: OK. I installed the game. It runs fine. It looks fine. But I
keep starving, if the monsters don't kill me first, and I don't have any
gold!
Answer: Read the Neginner's Tutorial section near the end of the
manual (run the game hit F1 to get the manual).
These steps will solve most problems you encounter. If none of these
things help, please let us know! If there are any bugs left, we want to
squish them! Typo reports are welcome too!
