Introduction
=======================================================================
WarMaker is a random map generation utility for creating Warcraft 2
maps (puds). It easily generates maps with random terrain in about 2
seconds on a Pentium computer. The various terrain aspects of the map
are quickly adjusted with slider controls. You can save and load your
adjustments and settings too. WarMaker will also save you time when
creating your own custom maps. By using a WarMaker generated map as
a starter map, you can edit it with the Warcraft 2 Map Editor and put
in your own personal touches or modify the terrain to your liking in
less time than it would take you to create a map from scratch.
Features:
* Fast map generation of all sizes (heavily populated 128 x 128 pud
in less than 2 seconds on a Pentium 133)
* Mini Map display for quick review of maps
* Easy to use slider control adjustment for water, dirt, grass,
forest, mountains, gold mines and oil patches.
* Ability to save and load different control settings
* No map display feature for creating surprise maps for
multi-player games
* Selectable up to 8 players
* Three levels of land cosmetics for quality looking maps
System Requirements:
* Windows 95
* 256 color display minimum

Using WarMaker
=======================================================================
To use WarMaker, all you need to do is adjust the terrain settings and
click the "generate" button. A map will be displayed and you can save
it if you like it or keep generating until you get one that is
acceptable.
There are slider controls for water, dirt, grass, forest, mountains,
oil patches and gold mines.
The "density" slider controls how many tiles will be placed from a
certain starting point.
The "quantity" slider controls how many different random starting
points will be plotted.
The gold and oil sliders just select how many of either will be
placed. If the map is heavily populated with terrain that will not
allow placement, WarMaker will drop units after too many attempts
at placement.
You can select different map generation properties and different
player properties under the Options menu. You can also save all of
your settings for use at a later time.
The unit properties are generated with the default settings. All gold
mines are generated with 90000 gold and oil patches with 10000 oil.

THE MENU ITEMS
======================================================================
OPTIONS
====================================================================
DISPLAY OPTIONS
---------------
The display options lets you select different setting for the
mini-map display.
Stretch Smaller Maps - When this is selected, maps that are smaller
than 128 will be stretched to fit into the full area of the mini-map
display window. This lets you view the smaller maps easier.
Do Not Display Map - When this is selected, the mini-map window will
not be updated with any new maps. This is used for creating surprise
maps for multi-player games. Once you have found a setting of all the
controls and options that generate consistantly good playable maps,
you can turn off the display and use the surprise map. You will already
know that the map will be a playable map.
Use Alternate Colors - When this is selected, the mini-map will use
alternate color to display the map. This will only work with display
modes of 16M colors or more.
Map Properties
--------------
Map-Size - This selects what size map will be generated
Map Cosmetics - This selects how much cosmetics will be placed in the
map. These are the various rocks and grass patches.
Players - This selects how many player start positions will be placed.
If there is not enough grass or dirt, some players may be dropped if
WarMaker cannot find spots for them. A warning will let you know when
this occurs.
Save Terrain As - This lets you select what terrain you want the map
to be saved in. The mini-map will not reflect this setting.
Map description - Type in what you want to title the map.
Generate With a Dirt Base - If this is not checked you are generating
with a water base. This means that WarMaker starts with a map that is
only water and then plots land on top of the water.
If you check this, WarMaker will start with a map that is only
dirt and adds water tiles then the rest of the terrain.
This setting provides two distinctly different styles of maps.
*** Notice ***
Any changes made to Map Size and Players will be reflected in the next
map you generate. For example if you generate a map with 2 players then
come here and change it to four players, it will save it as two player.
The next map you generate will be four.
Player Properties
-----------------
This lets you select the race of each player, the controller of each
player, and the artificial intelligence of non human players. This is
the same as in the Warcraft 2 Map Editor.
*** NOTICE ***
The players in WarMaker get generated in order from 1 to 8. If you
select four players in the Map Properties the first four will be
placed so only the first four player property settings will have
any effect.
WarMaker will not save a map without at least one human controlled
player.
FILE
======================================================================
Open - Opens a pud. Has no real purpose although you can modify the
Player Options and Map Options of existing maps and then save it. This
was put in for future expansion capabilities.
Save - Saves your map
Save As - Saves you map with a different name.
Load Settings - This loads a WarMaker settings file. A settings file
is a file that holds all of the slider positions, map properties and
player properties.
Save Settings - Once you find a setting you like, you can save it
in a settings file.
Save Settings As - Save your settings file with a different name.
Exit - Quits WarMaker

CONCLUSION
======================================================================
I hope you enjoy using my program. If you have any suggestions on
how to improve WarMaker, I'd love to hear from you. If you have any
problems with running WarMaker, please let me know. If a generated pud
does not work, I would appreciate if you could e-mail it to me for
further investigation. If you would like to help me out with the cost
of developing this and future versions, I would galdly accept any
financial donations that you send my way. But most of all, have fun
making WAR!
