1. INSTALLING SANDWARRIORS
=====================================================================
1a. INSTALLATION
-----------------
The game requires a minimum of 16Mb of memory, a Pentium(tm) 75 and
a minimum of 35MB of hard drive space. You can run the game from a
DOS box under Windows(r) 95. To run in higher than 320x200
resolution under Win 95, the program requires a minimum of 20Mb of
memory.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you use the '-d' switch when unzipping
the demo to restore directories when extracting the files.
After the files have been extracted from the zip file, you must
first install the DEMO. From a DOS prompt, type 'INSTALL' to launch
the installation program from where the files were extracted.
Follow the prompts to choose a drive and install Sandwarriors on
your system. After installation, the installer will prompt you to
set up your sound card.
1b. SETTING UP SOUND
---------------------
The setup program offers you the choice of either manually setting
up your soundcard or using the autodetect function. If you would
like to change your sound settings at a later time, you can launch
the installer (type INSTALL at the DOS prompt from the SWDEMO
directory) to reconfigure your sound settings.
When using autodetect, the setup program will automatically detect
the type and settings of your sound card. If you experience any
problems using autodetect, such as the machine locking up, reboot
your machine and set the sound card manually.
1c. MANUAL SOUND SETUP
-----------------------
When setting up your sound card manually, you will be asked to
select your sound card from a list of types. Then enter the PORT,
IRQ and DMA settings. You can either try the suggested default
settings or customize it to suit your own machine settings. If you
have Windows 95, refer to the "Hardware" profiles to find the
settings of your sound card. Otherwise, refer to the technical
help that came with the sound card.
1d. INGAME MUSIC
-----------------
The Sandwarriors demo features two types of in-game music. These
are FM and MIDI. The most basic type of music is the FM type. The
quality of music will improve over the two alternatives though you
may need to have extra hardware to access the MIDI. If your sound
card supports MIDI, the quality of music will improve if you select
MIDI over FM.
After selecting your music card you will be offered the option to
test your settings. If you select "yes" you should hear a scale of
notes playing from your system. If you don't hear anything, your
sound card has not been configured correctly. Adjust settings when
prompted to try again.
1e. GENERAL MIDI
-----------------
In order to use MIDI music, your sound card must be MIDI compatible.
(refer to soundcard technical specs) NOTE: the autodetect feature
cannot detect whether your card can support MIDI music. You must
setup for MIDI manually. When setting up your soundcard in the
install utility and after you have set "Sound effects," you will be
prompted "Use these settings for Music?". Select "No" and you will
be prompted to select from a list of sound cards. From the list of
sound cards, select your MIDI sound card or try the "General Midi"
option. Then enter the PORT settings for your MIDI sound card.
1f. GENERAL SOUND TIPS
-----------------------
The sound levels of both music and sound effects in Sandwarriors can
be modified via the menu option screens in game. If you are having
difficulty adjusting sound levels, you may want to try adjusting the
Master volume control in Windows 95. The volume control can be
found on your Windows 95 taskbar. Adjust the Windows 95 volume
levels to ensure that the sound levels in the game are appropriate.
2. VIDEO SETUP
=====================================================================
2a. INGAME VIDEO RESOLUTION
----------------------------
The Base requirements to run Sandwarriors in the different video
modes are listed below.
640x480 - Requires 16meg (access through DOS mode)
640x480+ - Requires 16meg (access through DOS mode)
800x600 - Requires 16meg (access through DOS mode)
2b. USING HIGHER RESOLUTIONS IN WINDOWS 95
-------------------------------------------
With 16meg you will be able to run at 320x200 in Windows 95.
However, other higher resolution modes will only work from the DOS
mode icon. In order to run in higher resolutions from Win95, you
must have more memory (20MB+). If a video mode is unselectable in
game (grayed out), this is because your system cannot not support
the resolution (not enough memory).
2c. TROUBLE WITH VIDEO MODES
-----------------------------
If you experience any problems running Sandwarriors in a video mode,
please be sure you are using the correct video driver for your
video card. (refer Video Card manuals for driver information).
If you cannot locate the correct driver for your video card, try
running with the UNIVBE VESA drivers available from a range of
sources. Cirrus Logic (5436), may also need the UNIVBE driver if
experiencing corrupted graphics. (UNIVIBE can be obtained from the
Internet and may be included with some demo games).
Owners of some Matrox Millennium Cards may experience difficulty
running Sandwarriors in 800x600 mode; again, ensure you are using
the latest version of the Millennium video drivers.

4. GENERAL ADVICE
=====================================================================
Always run Sandwarriors from a clean system startup. Do not run
other programs (such as games and applications) before running
Sandwarriors. If Sandwarriors exits for an unknown reason, always
reset the machine before trying again.
4a. RUNNING SANDWARRIORS IN DOS MODE
-------------------------------------
It is advisable to run Sandwarriors from its own DOS mode icon rather
than to shut down Windows(R) 95 manually and run SW from DOS. This
is to ensure the proper close down of windows and that the correct
drivers for Sandwarriors are loaded.
4b. WINDOWS 95 KEYS
--------------------
If using Sandwarriors from within Windows 95, you may inadvertently
press the "Start" Key (Windows 95 keyboards only). This will cause
Sandwarriors to freeze as the Windows system pops up. Don't panic!
Sandwarriors can be restored by clicking on its Button now residing
on the Taskbar.
Note: Sandwarriors can only be restored if you were flying in-game
when you jumped out to Windows. If you were in the menu
system, Windows 95 may not be able to restore Sandwarriors.
