  14. This file is README.1ST.  It contains information about
  15. MOZART and how to install it.
  16.  
  17. You are recommended to read it first!
  18.  
  19. README.TXT:  Other important information including how to
  20. register and uninstall MOZART is given in the file README.TXT
  21. which can be read after installation if you wish. README.TXT
  22. also has useful trouble-shooting information in case MOZART
  23. does not run satisfactorily after installation.

  26. 1. DISTRIBUTION FILES
  27. =====================

  29. There are two forms in which you may have got MOZART.
  30.  
  31. A) You got the evaluation version in the form  zip files
  32.    MOZRT11a.ZIP and MOZRT11b.ZIP from a bulletin board or
  33.    via the internet, you will know how to unzip them with
  34.    PKUNZIP.EXE and you will have found this file.
  35.  
  36. B) You have a floppy disk containing a number of files,
  37.    some in compressed format (eg MOZART.EX_).  This disk
  38.    includes README.1ST (this file) and an installation
  39.    program SETUP.EXE.
  40.  
  41. Registered versions are distributed in form (B).
  42.  
  43. If you got (A), make sure that the ZIP files are unzipped
  44. into a single directory before installation.

  47. 2. Installing MOZART
  48. ====================
  49.  
  50. Installation is done by running the program setup.exe supplied
  51. on the distribution disk:

  53. If your distribution files (including setup.exe) are on a floppy
  54. disk in drive a:
  55.  
  56.     Go to Windows Program Manager;
  57.  
  58.     click on the "Run..." item on its "File" menu;
  59.  
  60.     in the command box type
  61.  
  62.                     a:\setup
  63.  
  64.     click on Ok or press Enter.
  65.  
  66. ( Otherwise if you have unzipped the zipped files into a temporary
  67.   directory, c:\tmp say, then do the same but with the command
  68.   c:\tmp\setup.)
  69.  
  70. The setup program now installs MOZART for you.
  71.  
  72. It asks at least one question: where do you want MOZART installed?
  73. It suggests a directory, ususlly C:\MOZART.  You may install it
  74. anywhere on your hard disk but it is best to be in a new
  75. directory (or over an old copy of MOZART).  The setup program
  76. creates the directory for you if it doesn't exist.
  77.  
  78. MOZART setup installs a number of utility DLL files which are 
  79. commonly used by many programs.  It puts these in your
  80. WINDOWS directory.  If you already have a newer version
  81. of any of these files than the one supplied with MOZART, the
  82. installation will pause to ask you if you really want to install
  83. an older version. The correct answer is usually "No".  (If you
  84. do want to install older versions, then exit from the setup
  85. program and back up your originals first - MOZART should work
  86. with newer versions; other applications may not work with older
  87. ones.)

  89. The common DLLs installed by MOZART setup are listed under the
  90. heading "Files installed" in the file README.TXT.
  91.  
  92. MOZART SETUP also installs a number of sample tunes in a TUNES
  93. subdirectory of the MOZART directory.  These files are the ones
  94. with names of the form *.MZ in the distribution files.

  96. MOZART SETUP tells your Windows Registration Database about .mz
  97. files so that files with this extension can be opened from the
  98. Windows File Manager - just as (for example) .WRI files can be.
  99.  
  100. Four icons will appear in a group of files titled "Mozart" in
  101. the program manager.  These are MOZART itself, an icon for
  102. direct access to the on-line help, and icons for showing the
  103. registration form REGISTER.WRI and the companion information
  104. file README.TXT
  105.  
  106. You are recommended to read the file README.TXT before or after
  107. installation - it contains very useful information.
