  8. - WHAT IS MIDGET?
  9.  
  10. Midget is a music program for people who like to compose music without
  11. using a score-based interface (ie: one where you place notes on a music
  12. score, using a mouse). I originally developed it because I had purchased a
  13. new sound card, which had extra MIDI voices on it, and I needed a piece of
  14. software that supported it - and I also needed a piece of software that
  15. used MIDI, without the hassle of point-and-click or MIDI keyboard input.

  17. What's different? The interface allows the composer to hear notes as they are
  18. entered, and review them if necessary. With most MIDI programs, the user has
  19. to enter data on to an image of a music manuscript. This takes considerable
  20. skill and time to get it to sound as you want it to. It has been my
  21. experience that while errors are corrected in the music, my inspiration has
  22. to be ignored. Midget allows the composer to enter a note, instantly change
  23. it if necessary, and continue, in a fraction of the time this operation would
  24. take with common MIDI file editors.

  28. - INSTALLATION

  30. To install Midget, simply run SETUP.EXE in Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP.

  34. - DISTRIBUTION
  35.  
  36. PLEASE do not distribute Midget without prior written permission from the
  37. author of the software.

  39. If you would like to distribute Midget on a large scale (eg: cover-discs),
  40. please let me know. This will help me to keep track of how Midget is being
  41. distributed.

  43. Distribution of Midget along with another commercial package must first be
  44. discussed and approved by me in writing. It is unlikely that I will say no
  45. to such an opportunity, but there are certain conditions that may need to be
  46. met.

  48. What you do with your music is up to you - there are no special agreements
  49. involved, no royalties, etc. (although a mention in the credits would be
  50. nice!)

  60. possible, but I cannot guarantee that it will run perfectly on all
