- \ Notes /
- \-----/
-
- This software is a demo version, and is subject to change between now and the final
- release date.
- YOU USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
-
- This demo version allows you to play a one or 2 player game between Arsenal and
- Aston Villa. Limited to 1 minute each way.
-
- Certain features detailed below are not available in this demo version.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- \ Background /
- \----------/
-
- Total Soccer is a fast action arcade soccer game, where gameplay rules.
- Play a single game against the computer or human opposition, or setup a league, cup or
- season from any of the teams from around the world.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- \ Main Menu /
- \---------/
-
- Navigate the menus using the CURSOR KEYS, and RETURN, on your keyboard.
- The main menu options are:
-
- SINGLE GAME:
- This option allows you to play a single game against the computer or another human.
- Press RETURN and you will proceed to the SELECT CONTROLS page. Use UP DOWN LEFT and
- RIGHT to change the controls for the home and away team from the following options:
-
- KEYS1 : Keyboard controls 1
- KEYS2 : Keyboard controls 2
- JOY1 : Joystick 1
- JOY2 : Joystick 2
- CPU : Computer
-
- Each control option has an optional 'Autodribble' (auto) feature. This feature makes
- dribbling the ball in Total Soccer much easier. 'Autodribble' does not make the
- ball stick to the end of your players feet, it simply controls your player to
- dribble the ball in the direction you point your controller in. Using
- 'Autodribble' is not neccessarily an advantage since you lose some of the
- immediate touch and feel of the ball ... you actually get more control over the
- ball by not using 'Autodribble', but it takes longer to master !
-
- Press RETURN and you will proceed to the SELECT TEAMS page. In the demo the teams you
- may use are fixed, so press RETURN.
- You will then proceed to the team and tactics page (see TEAM AND TACTICS section).
-
- TRAINING: (limited in demo)
- This option allows you to try one of the 3 dribbling exercises. The full version has
- many more training exercises.
-
- COMPETITIONS: (disabled in demo)
-
- LOAD SAVED GAME:
- This option allows you to load a game previously saved during a League, Cup or Season.
-
- REPLAYS:
- This option allows you to view replays previously saved during a game. During a replay
- you may slow the replay (F7), plot the ball movement (F8), and change views (PAGEUP,
- PAGEDOWN, HOME).
-
- HIGHLIGHTS: (disabled in demo)
- This option replays the highlights (goals) from the previous match. (To save any of the
- individual replays whilst viewing the highlights press F6.)
-
- CONTROLS:
- This option allows you to setup the controls used during the game. You may REDEFINE the
- keyboard controls KEYS1 and KEYS2. You may also setup the joystick kick and pass button
- controls for JOY1 and JOY2.
-
- OPTIONS:
- This option allows to to setup various ingame options. (for more informations see the
- OPTIONS section)
-
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-
- NOTE: some options are limited in the demo.
-
- Use the cursor keys UP DOWN LEFT and RIGHT to navigate and change options. Select EXIT
- or press ESCAPE to exit the menu.

- PITCH MODE:
- This option allows you to change the graphics mode of the pitch. By default the pitch
- is textured, though you may get a smoother game by using either a simple checked or
- flat shaded pitch.
-
- TARGET FPS:
- This option allows you to change the number of Frames per Second the game will try to
- acheive. 60 FPS will result in a much smoother game generally, but due to the way the
- human eye works, selecting 30 FPS may result in a perceived smoother game on less
- powerful computers.
-
- PITCH TYPE:
- This option allows you to change the pitch surface you play on. The available surfaces
- are: MUDDY, WET, NORMAL and DRY, each having their own characteristics for ball
- dynamics. You may also select RANDOM which will select one of the pitch type for you.
-
- WIND:
- This option allows you to change the amount of wind, from NONE, LIGHT or HEAVY.

- This option allows you to change the length of the match by selecting the length of
- the half. You may also select GOLDEN GOAL which means the match will end when the
- first goal is scored.
-
- EXTRA TIME:
- This option allows you to set whether extra-time will be played as normal extra-time,
- (Normal) or whether the first goal scored will win (Golden Goal).
-
- SOUND FX:
- This option allows you to switch the in-game sound effects (kicking etc.) ON or OFF.
-
- CROWD FX:
- This option allows you to switch the in-game crowd sound effects ON or OFF.
-
- REFEREE:
- This option allows you to select the referee. Each referee has his own characteristics
- and some are more strict and more accurate than others. You may also select RANDOM.

- \ Playing the game /

-
- Gameplay should be fairly intuitive, including aftertouch, one touch passing, sliding
- tackles and so on.
-
- If you hold down the PASS button whilst running up to the ball you will hold the ball,
- where you can change your direction and pass.
- When KICKing the ball, the longer you hold down the fire button, the higher the ball
- will go.
- When the ball is in the air pressing kick will make your player jump. If he makes
- contact with the ball whilst mid air he will head the ball.
- When the ball is on the ground, and not in your possession then pressing kick will make
- your player do a sliding tackle.
-
- Corners : KICK will play a ball into the 18 yard box in the direction of your controller.
- PASS will pass the ball to the nearest player.
-
- FreeKicks: KICK/PASS will pass the ball to the nearest player.
- when within shooting area, pressing KICK will shoot at the goal in the
- direction pointed at, aftertouch will then apply.
-
- Goalkeepers are computer controlled, except when the ball is in their posession where you
- may use the kick or pass keys to release the ball.
-
- To initially get to grips with the game we suggest you practice by playing a two player
- game, against a non-existant player 2, ie by selecting KEYS1 vs KEYS2 etc.
- You WILL find the game tricky at first, but you should soon pick up the control system,
- and be scoring some truly golden goals.
-
