Bug fixes and improvements in patch V1.03 2-13-96
(c) 1996 Strategic Simulations, Inc. A Mindscape Company
----------------------------------------------------------
The files contained in the SU27V103.ZIP file will enable the user to upgrade
V1.0, V1.01, or V1.02 of Su-27 Flanker to V1.03. While we have done some testing
on this new version, it should still be considered a "Beta". It appears that V1.03
very stable and performs well, but we would appreciate any reports you can provide
should you encounter problems.
Please send any problem reports to SSI support on section 3 of Gamapub forum (GO GAMAPUB) on Compuserve.
The next upgrade will be V1.1 which is scheduled for release in March 1996 (this date
is subject to change, however).
A. Please check sizes, dates and times of the files for Patch V1.03.
The following files need to be placed in the various Su-27 subdirectories
as listed below:

Please delete your old file SU27.INI since it is incompatible with the new
version of the Mission Editor (1.03). The new SU27.INI file will be created
automatically once you press OK in the Preferences dialog box. Obviously,
before you start V1.03 you should configure Su-27 by accessing the Preferences
menu dialog box which is found under the "FILE" pull-down menu. Be sure to
reconfigure your joystick settings as well.
CHANGES MADE FOR V1.03 OF SU-27 FLANKER
MISSION EDITOR
1. Preferences Settings: The OK button now saves all the pages not only the
current one.
2. To enable the rearview mirrors, check the Rearview Mirrors tick box in the
Details page (no mirrors by default). Note that using the mirrors may slow
down the operation of the program a little bit.
3. The Other page in the Preferences property sheet allows you to
enable/disable the autoswitching to resolution 640x480x256 when running the
simulation module. This provides users running Win 95 in resolutions
higher than 640x480 the ability to automatically switch to 640x480 when in
flight mode. NOTE: You must still be running in 256 colors.
4. The Debriefing feature now works properly. (In patch 1.01/1.02 it didn't
show the data at all).
5. The F1 key now invokes Flanker.hlp, rather than su27.hlp.
6. Levels of details under the preferences in now in correct order.
7. All modeless dialog boxes for planning (Aircraft, Waypoints, etc.) now
appear in the correct location, without moving across the screen. They
always appear within the application window regardless of their placement
because of the change of screen resolution.
8. The following weapons payloads are fixed:
"ZAB-500", "Kh-31p" for Su-27 on Ground Attack
"OFAB-250 S-8" for Su-27 on Ground Attack and CAS.
9. The map is optimized to exclude multiple redrawings when selecting objects
and waypoints.
10. Version info added to "About Flanker" and Properties (when right-clicking
on su27.exe)
11. Joystick Setup doesn't show up when no joystick is installed in the
system. The absent equipment (ie. thrust lever, pedals) is disabled in
the dialog box.
FLIGHT MODULE
1. Requestor boxes now show up in proper resolution.
2. Missiles don't "pass through" and explode behind objects any more.
(Kh-35 and Kh-31, in particular)
3. With the keypad keys, use CTRL rather than SHIFT to increase the
rotation speed 4 times in external views.
4. Rearview Mirrors (see above). The following additional files are
required in Flanker's home directory:
SW05.IMG
SW06.IMG
SW07.IMG
5. No more problems with deploying flaps, gear, CapsLock, etc. Please,
find attached the "correct" files for the Thrustmaster WCSII and F-16
FLCS joystick SU27WCS2.ADV, SU27WCS2.MDF, and SU27FLCS.B50. Use them as
examples to adjust your own joystick configuration files.
Also included is a revised SU27TQS2.B50 file that corrects a problem with
the one provided in V1.0. SU27TQS3.B50 & SU27TQS3.M50 are provided as
additional configuration files for the FLCS/TQS.
Note that some commands (Tab, CapsLock, W, and other) in these files
require specifying a code when depressing the corresponding key and when
releasing it. Such commands should generate the Right Shift code prior
to the required action itself. For example,
BTN 3 /P /N RSFT ToggleLock /R /N ToggleLock
Here, when you push the Lock-On button it generates Right Shift
(RSFT) then the command itself (TAB). Upon release, this button
generates only the TAB code.
6. New key: 0 = BackSpace = CapsLock
7. No more program crashes when deploying A2G weapons to an non-initialized
airfield or landing on it. (Ex. Su-25 drops KMGU, etc.)
8. Computer aircraft now can deploy guided bombs (KAB-500, KAB-1500).
9. BetAB-500 doesn't veer off and miss runways any more on the final leg.
10. The ECM light is now operational! The Sorbtsiya ECM pod works stand-alone
and doesn't have a light on the panel. However, if EITHER Sorbtsiya OR
on-board ECM system is damaged, the AP light turns red and ALL the ECM
systems fail.
11. The Neutral Trim light now works properly.
12. Now bombs can be hit by missiles, for example, by Iglas.
13. The jerkiness problem has been solved (optimized) in the flight module.
Check low level flying with at max level of details, and strafing (both
low level and at airborne objects). However, the jerkiness sometimes (but
not mandatory) may be caused by the following things (this doesn't relate
to the sim, but to the system, and there is nothing we can do about it -
it's Windows 95 multitasking!):
a. Network cards and software (definitely!)
b. Anti-virus programs
c. Disk and system security guards
d. Clock on the taskbar
e. 16-bit applications running.
f. Obsolete video drivers for video cards (Ex., for Diamond Stealth)
g. Fragmentation of disks where Flanker files reside and where all
temporary and swap files are created.
Note. Jerkiness also depends on the way Windows 95 schedules
applications.
14. The keypad keys (1,..,9) in external views work as twice as fast when
changing the point of view.
15. New key: BackSpace = CapsLock (for compatibility with French and German
versions).
16. Six pre-set missions and one recorded demonstration have been slightly
edited:
a. S_LEAD_4.MIS (now classified as Sq. Leader, rather than Pilot)
b. GENERAL2.MIS (coordinates for Target 7 in the briefing screen)
c. PILOT_5.MIS (various changes)
d. T_RWY.MIS (various changes)
e. T_PINP.MIS (various changes)
f. SHIP1.MIS (various changes)
g. LOWLEVEL.TRK (additional demo showing low-level flight)
