"Sooner or later, everyone comes to Babylon 5"
If Sinclair only knew how right he was!!!
Babylon 5 is by far my favourite TV program, and certainly one of the best
shows ever produced. One of the many interesting points of the show is that
it finally introduced CGI into SF TV shows (which was till then always put
aside by the guys that produce the Trek shows).
Sice rendering has always fascinated me, I decided to get a little more
serious about it, and together with an Internet account (was about time), I
started using better software (POVRay is okay, yeah... sure), 3D Studio 4.
That you have this file probably means you visited my homepage, so yeah, I
am building Babylon 5 3D models and use them in pictures (when you come to
think of it it's not a bad idea, huh? :).
By popular demand I finally decided to make my 3D Studio Vorlon Transport
available. It is mainly a remake of the excellent Lightwave Vorlon Transport
done by Dean Scott, whose wireframes I used as reference to build this
version. I could've saved myself a lot of work if I had found a capable
conversion-program, but I also wanted to learn how to model with 3DS.
So here ya go, enjoy it. ;)
Files in this archive:
**********************
-vorlon.3ds The Body of the Transport with closed Wings/Petals.
-owings.3ds The opened Wings/Petals.
-vorlon.jpg A rendering of the model.
-stucco_i.sxp T SXP required for the texture.
-readme.txt This cute little file.
Simply place the SXP in your 3DS\MAPS directory and everything should work.
Unfortunatelly I'm not sure where I got the SXP from, it must've been somewhere
on the net. As no copyright is noticed when using it I assume it's free and
that's why it's in here. If there should be a problem with this please inform
me, so that I can remove it before getting sued. ;)
The contents of this archive must remain unaltered, if one or more files are
missing you have an unauthorized version. In this case please inform the
responsible distributor or me, thank you.
If you want to publish the archive anywhere I, as always, would very much like
to be informed, as it helps me to keep track of my model.

The model is as good as I could make it at that time, but when I created it
I was fairly new (okay, I still am) to advanced level modeling. :)
In total I used more than 4 different programs to create the thing (my main
tool remained 3DS, but I couldn't get the petals right in 3DS alone), that's
why the surface is a litle chaotic at some places, maybe I'll get around to
correct that.
If you want to improve the look of the model in renderings you simply have
to draw a panel-like surface (or use the panel texture that comes with my
Raider model) and map it as specular and/or shininess map. That way you can
achieve an effect as in the included demo picture.
I don't mind if you modify the model, as long as you don't distribute the
modified version. If you think the changes improve the model, please inform
me of what you've done.
You're free to use the model in scenes or animations, as long as you credit
me as creator of the model and also inform me of what you've done, so that
I can have a look. ;)
And now for the (not) fun-part:
*******************************
This model is distributed as freeware, which means that I own the so called
"copyright" to this work. However I am allowing you to use it freely, as long
as copyright credit to Warner Bros., Foundation Imaging and my humble self
(the least important of the mentioned) is noted in creations using this data.
This model was built solely for the recreational fun of it, and is only
intended for non-profit and personal use. Not even the tiniest bit of these
thingies were obtained by WB, Foundation Imaging nor any of the other
copyright owners or creators of the original model.
I repeat, this model is only intended for NON-profit use, and the copyright
to the original data and Babylon 5 is owned by the above (and here comes a
cool word) entities. ;)
This document MUST be kept with the refering data set, and the archive has
to remain UNALTERED!
I think even Vir would understand this.
