  24. Please note the special conditions that apply to the reproduction of 
  25. currency, especially the print reproduction of paper currency, which may
  26. be illegal, depending upon local law.  In general, most countries don't
  27. have a problem with video display of their currency, but many require
  28. reproduction at least half or twice actual size, or the imprint of 
  29. the word SPECIMEM in large letters at an angle across the front.  This 
  30. applies to flat reproduction of complete images of an individual currency.
  31. Composite images, or images of piles or other arrangements of currency 
  32. are usually not affected by these laws.  However, if you intend to 
  33. reproduce currency in a commercial production, whether on the video 
  34. screen or in print, you should consult your attorney and the respective 
  35. national banking authorities for explicit permission.

  37. Windows Users - Navigational Software
  38. -------------------------------------
  39.  
  40. Every attempt has been made to provide MPC compatible content,
  41. both in images (BMP format) and sound (WAV format).  A
  42. navigational program created with Toolbook can be found in the root
  43. directory of the disc.  You may install part of or all of the software 
  44. to the hard drive by using the SETUP.EXE program, through Window's File 
  45. Manager. The choice is yours.  Installing everything to the hard disk 
  46. provides better performance, however, it will add about 1.5 MB of files 
  47. to your hard drive. Buttons in the book may be used with a mouse, or with 
  48. the TAB (which moves around the app) and Enter key (to select a 
  49. highlighted button).

  51. Standard Windows style help is available, just press the button labeled
  52. "?" on the button bar.
  53.  
  54. Keep in mind the following requirements for Windows users:
  55.  
  56. 1.  You must have Windows version 3.1 or version 3.0 with the 
  57. multi-media extensions.  Windows 3.1 or later is recommended.
  58.  
  59. 2.  You must have an MPC compatible sound card to use the sound. Boards
  60. from Creative Labs (the SoundBlaster Pro), Media Vision (Pro Audio 
  61. Spectrum), and many other vendors have been tested for compatibility with
  62. this product.
  63.  
  64. 3.  Pictures work best with the 256 color 640 x 480 Windows driver.
  65. These are available direct from the video board manufacturer.  Aris
  66. does not supply these.  You must have at least 512K of video RAM for this 
  67. feature to work.
  68.  
  69. 4.  If the sound breaks up, try to increase the buffering done by Windows.
  70. To do this, go to the Main Window, select Control Panels, then select 
  71. Drivers.  Double click on the MCI Sound selection and move the slider to
  72. 9 seconds of buffering.  If this doesn't entirely solve the problem,
  73. you may need to increase the memory buffering in the MSCDEX statement in
  74. your AUTOEXEC.BAT (the /m: command).  Try increasing it to 16 or 20.

  76. 5.  Movie performance varies, based on the caliber of your installed 
  77. hardware.  Best performance is from MPC compatible CD-ROM drives, those
  78. capable of 150KB/sec of sustained data transfer.

  82. There are 100 high quality images and 100 sound tracks stored on
  83. this disc.  Images are stored in several formats for your
  84. convenience:
  85.  
  86. 1.  24-bit TIF, in 640 x 480 format, for high resolution paint 
  87. programs and desktop publishing, in the TIFF directory. Users with 
  88. Hi-Color cards may view these images with programs capable of 24-bit
  89. image display.
  90.  
  91. 2.  8-bit PCX, 640 x 480 format, for most DOS paint programs, in the
  92. PCX directory.
  93.  
  94. 3.  8-bit BMP, 640 x 480 format, for compatibility with Windows, in
  95. the BMPLARGE directory.
  96.  
  97. 4.  8-bit BMP, 320 x 240 format, for high speed viewing, in the 
  98. BMPSMALL directory.
  99.  
  100. 5.  8-bit Movies, 160 x 120 PACO format, including synchronized sound.

  104. Audio is 22 Khz, 8-bit, stored as follows:

  114. If you have Windows 3.1 or 3.0 with multi-media extensions, we
  115. recommend use of our Toolbook navigation system.  Details for use of
  116. this software follow this section.

  118. To start using this disc, type "MNY" at the CD-ROM drive's
  119. DOS prompt.  Unfortunately, low resolution versions of each picture
  120. are not available on this disc.  You will need a Sound Blaster card 
  121. or 100% compatible to hear the music.

  147. The disc you have in your CD-ROM drive contains two complete
  148. versions of World View (tm), one for Macintosh, the other for
  149. PC.  Your CD-ROM driver is smart enough to figure out which one
  150. you view, so sit back and enjoy.

  153. You may use the IMAGE ALCHEMY shareware program for two weeks
  154. without registering the software and paying the fee.  Please
  155. note, this program works well on all 640 x 480 or smaller
  156. images.  It offers many fine capabilities, such as
  157. conversion between many different formats, including Mac and PC,
  158. and it should find a home in your imaging utilities directories.
  159. The registered version will handle images larger than 640 x 480.
  160.  
  161. A navigational HyperPAD application called "MNY" has been
  162. included to help find your way through the files.  The TAB key
  163. moves through the fields, ENTER selects.  The mouse is also
  164. supported.  Best display quality is obtained with Super VGA
  165. video boards with 512K of video memory.  Most mainstream video boards
  166. are supported, but there are new ones every day.  The best solution
  167. to this problem is to use our Windows version.  Sound may be played if
  168. you have a Sound Blaster or compatible card -- just select the Sound 
  169. button in the HyperPAD interface.  Remember, the PC was not designed as a
  170. multi-media machine, and so this interface is not as "robust" as
  171. we would prefer.
  172.  
  173. Audio is stored in the WAVE directory in Microsoft's WAV
  174. format, as well as in VOC format in the SNDBLAST directory.
  175. This sound has been tested with MPC compatible sound boards and
  176. is of a quality high enough (22 Khz, mono) for multi-media
  177. presentations.  You must have an MPC compatible sound board with
  178. speaker or headphone to hear the WAV files.  The Mediavision Pro
  179. Spectrum and the Sound Blaster Professional sound boards were
  180. used in the development of this product.  They were easy to
  181. install and both worked well.

  183. Tech Tips
  184. ---------
  185.  
  186. 1.  Sound performance can be improved during the slide show by setting
  187. a temp variable.  To do this, type "SET BLAST_BUF=XX", where XX is a
  188. number between 2 and 32 (the size of the buffer in K).
  189.  
  190. 2.  Try installing a VESA driver, if you have a 512K VGA card and Image
  191. Alchemy or the Tempra slide show viewer don't recognize your video board.
  192. These usually come on a floppy diskette supplied by the manufacturer.
  193.  
  194. 3.  Use the LOWRES program if you don't have 512K of video memory.
  195.  
  196. 4.  Use our Windows interface.  It's really much nicer!
  197.  
  198. 5.  Sorry, but there's no way to gracefully escape from the self-running
  199. slide show.  Escape will slightly ease your pain by speeding you through
  200. the pictures and sounds, but the trusty RESET button (Crtl-Alt-Del) is 
  201. required for immediate results.  If you want to make a suggestion to 
  202. improve the Tempra program, their telephone number is (813) 682-1128.
