  15. Using Termite Mail

  18. Termite Mail is a Termite TCP client designed to provide basic 
  19. electronic mail send and receive capabilities.  
  20.  
  21. Mail Settings

  24. These settings specify the Internet mail resources that you 
  25. will use and how you will identify yourself.  These are required 
  26. to send or receive any mail.  
  27.  
  28. Real Name      This is the name that will be used to identify 
  29.    yourself in addition to your e-mail address.  It can be your 
  30.    real name or a handle.  It is pre-pended to your e-mail 
  31.    address in the From: field of the mail header when sending 
  32.    mail.  example:

  34.       From: Real Name <e-mail.address>
  35.  
  36. E-Mail Address    This is your Internet electronic mail address.
  37.    It is usually in the form:

  39.       UserName@isp.domain 
  40.  
  41. POP 3 Server    This is the name of your ISP's POP3 mail server.  
  42.    This is the service used to receive mail. It is usually of 
  43.    the form:
  44.  
  45.       mail.isp.domain
  46.  
  47. POP 3 User Name      This is the user name you need to use to 
  48.    access your mail.  This is usually the same as your regular
  49.    login Username.

  51. POP 3 Password       This is the user name you need to use to 
  52.    access your mail.  This is usually the same as your regular
  53.    login password.
  54.  
  55. SMTP Server    This is the name of your ISP's SMTP mail server.  
  56.    This is the service used to sned mail. It is usually of 
  57.    the form:

  59.       mail.isp.domain
  60.  
  61.    and is often the same as the POP 3 Server name.

  63. Path Settings

  65. The Path settings window allows you to tell Termite Mail where 
  66. to put mail and what editor to use.

  68. Inbox drawer      Where new mail files will be saved and kept
  69.                   pending disposition.  
  70.  
  71. Save Mail Drawer  This is the path where mail that you decided 
  72.                   to save will be stored.
  73.  
  74. Sent Mail Drawer  This is the path where mail that you send
  75.                   will be stored.
  76.  
  77. Temporary drawer  This a drawer for Termite Mail to use for 
  78.                   temporary storage T: is recommended. 
  79.  
  80. Mail Editor       This the program that you want to use for 
  81.                   editing mail before sending.

  84. Save Settings

  87. You have now completed all of the steps necessary to connect
  88. and access your Internet Mail account. It is important to save 
  89. your settings so Termite Mail remembers them the next time you
  90. run Termite Mail.

  93. Inbox Window
  94. ************

  96. When you run Termite Mail the Inbox window is displayed.  This 
  97. is the basic window that all Termite Mail's functions are 
  98. accessed.  The Inbox List displays information on each letter 
  99. in your Inbox:

  101. Status      This is a three letter code to denote the current 
  102.    disposition status of the letter.  The codes are:
  103.  
  104.    *  New   denotes New, unread mail
  105.    *        (three spaces) denotes the letter has been read, but
  106.             has no special status.
  107.    *  Ans   denotes a letter that you have answered (replyed to)
  108.    *  Fwd   denotes a letter that you have forwarded to someone
  109.    *  Sav   denotes a letter that has been saved
  110.    *  Del   denotes a letter that will be deleted when Termite
  111.             Mail is closed.

  113. Date        This is the date the letter was received at your
  114.    mail server.
  115.  
  116. From        This person that sent you the mail, it is derived 
  117.             from the From: field of the mail header.
  118.  
  119. Size        The size of the letter in bytes
  120. Subject     This the subject of the letter, it is derived 
  121.             from the Subject: field of the mail header.

  124. Termite Mail Functions
  125. **********************

  127. Get Mail    Click on this button to retreive new mail for your 
  128.             server.  The Receive Mail window will appear telling
  129.             you the number of new letters are left to retrieve
  130.  
  131.             The Demo version of Termite Mail will not delete 
  132.             the retrieved mail from your Server.

  134. Send Mail   Click on this button to access the Send Mail function
  135.             to compose a new mail message.
  136.  
  137. Read Mail   This button will allow to read the currently selected 
  138. Inbox       letter.   When reading mail two new button gadgets 
  139.             appear.  These are <<Previous and Next>> which allow 
  140.             you to read the previous and next letters.
  141.  
  142.             When reading mail, the button changes to Inbox.  
  143.             Clicking it will return you to the Inbox list view.
  144.  
  145. Save Mail   This will save the currently selected letter in the 
  146.             designated Save Mail drawer.
  147.  
  148. Reply Mail  This will start the Send Mail process allowing you 
  149.             to send a reply to the person who wrote the currently 
  150.             selected letter.  You have the option of including 
  151.             the original letter in your reply.

  153. Forward Mail   This will start the Send Mail process allowing you 
  154.             to send a forward the currently selected letter to a 
  155.             third party.

  157. Delete Mail This willcause the currently selected letter to be 
  158.             deleted when Termie Mail exits.

  161. Undelete Mail   This unmark the currently selected file for 
  162.             deletion and return the letter to it's previous 
  163.             status.

  166. Send Mail Window
  167. ****************
  168. The following describes the functions found in the Send Mail 
  169. window.  The same window and functions are used for the sending
  170. a new mail, or replying to, or forwarding a letter. 
  171.  
  172. To    This is the e-mail address of the person you are sending 
  173.       the letter.  It may be specified in one of two forms:
  174.  
  175.       1)  username@isp.domain      or
  176.       2)  Real Name <username@isp.domain>
  177.  
  178. Cc    A copy of the letter will be sent to the address specified 
  179.       here as well as to the main recipient.
  180.  
  181. Subject     A short description of the subject of the letter.
  182.    
  183. Mail File   This is the file containing the letter to be sent.  
  184.       In most cases you will not want to change this because
  185.       Termite Mail will take care of it for you.  The only 
  186.       reason to change this is to send a specific precomposed 
  187.       mail file.

  189. Include Reply?    This allows to you automatically include the 
  190.       original letter in a reply.
  191.  
  192. Save Sent Mail?   This allows you to specifi whether you want the
  193.       letter to be saved in the Sent Mail drawer.

  195. Edit Mail   This will launch your chosen mail editor using the
  196.       file specified in Mail File.

  198. Send Mail   Choose this option to actually send the file 
  199.       specified in Mail File to the recipient specfied in To.  
  200.       If the mail is successfully sent you are returned to the 
  201.       Inbox window.
  202.  
  203. Cancel      Choose this option to return to the Inbox without 
  204.       sending anymail.

  206. Tooltype support
  207. ****************
  208.  
  209. Tooltype support is included for specifying configuration 
  210. information via tooltypes specified in the TermiteTCP program icon. 
  211. To edit the tooltype settings, click on the TermiteTCP icon and 
  212. select Information from the WorkBench Icon menu.
  213.  
  214. The following Tooltypes are currently recognized:
  215.  
  216.    AUTODELETE
  217.       Termite Mail will automatically detele succesfully retreived
  218.       mail from the server if this tooltype is set to TRUE.  
  219.  
  220.       This option has no effect in the Demo version
  221.  
  222.    AUTOEDIT 
  223.       Termite Mail automatically launch your editor when replying 
  224.       to a letter if this tooltype is set to TRUE.
