  5. Fine Print Description
  6. ----------------------
  7. Fine Print is a Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 printer driver. Fine Print
  8. prints any document with multiple pages onto fewer sheets by printing
  9. one, two, four, or eight pages on a single sheet of paper, while
  10. maintaining document integrity and clarity.  Fine Print allows a
  11. number of pages on a single page, saving significant amounts of paper
  12. and toner, and extending printer life. Fine Print works with all
  13. Windows printers and prints to any standard size of paper. It can be
  14. used for printing all documents - internal drafts, archives,
  15. proposals, spreadsheets, presentations, web pages, emails, Adobe
  16. Acrobat (PDF) files, graphics, software source code, etc.
  17.  
  18. Fine Print maximizes the functionality of existing printing hardware with
  19. features that include:
  20. * Works with any Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 printer:  inkjet,
  21.   non-postscript laser, and PostScript laser.
  22. * Supports all standard Windows print options, including fonts, graphics,
  23.   page size, etc.
  24. * Can print 1, 2, 4 or 8 pages on a single page, saving paper and printer
  25.   toner.
  26. * Stationery option prints a header, footer, page number, date and time
  27.   stamps. Multiple Stationery formats may be saved.
  28. * A Watermark may be underprinted on a page at a 45-degree angle.
  29.   Watermarks include Confidential, Draft, Eyes Only.
  30. * Simple to install and easy to use.
  31. * Any Windows application that has a Print function can use Fine Print.

  33. Installing Fine Print
  34. ---------------------
  35. After unzipping the Fine Print file, run INSTALL.EXE and follow the
  36. instructions.

  38. If INSTALL.EXE is not successful, you can install Fine Print as you
  39. would any other printer driver.  In Windows 3.1, use the Printers
  40. applet in Control Panel; in Windows 95, open the Printers folder and
  41. double-click "Add Printer."  For detailed instructions, just
  42. double-click the file SETUP.HLP in this directory.

  44. Uninstalling
  45. ------------
  46. Run UNINST.EXE and then remove Fine Print from the Printers folder on your
  47. system.

  49. Updating from a previous Fine Print Version 
  50. -------------------------------------------
  51. For those of you who are already registered, simply run the INSTALL.EXE
  52. file and your copy of Fine Print will be automatically updated to this
  53. version.

  129. Setting Default Paper Size
  130. --------------------------
  131. In many countries the default paper size is A4.  It is possible to
  132. set Fine Print to always use this or other supported sizes by
  133. default.  The default paper size in Fine Print can be set by using
  134. the Properties dialog box.  This dialog box is available from most
  135. applications in the same place that the printer driver is selected.
  136. It is also available from Win95 by right clicking on the Fine Print
  137. icon in the printer panel.  From there, select the Details tab and
  138. click the Setup... button.

  140. Note on Watermarks
  141. -------------------
  142. Watermarks do not print on most Laserjet 4 models from Windows 95
  143. applications. Printing from the same applications under Windows 3.1
  144. works correctly.  Exceptions to this rule include the Laserjet 5
  145. series of printers.
  146.  
  147. The only known workaround to this problem is to install the Windows
  148. 3.1 driver instead of the Windows 95 driver.  This should cause no
  149. ill effects and watermarks will print correctly.

  154. Registration
  155. ------------
  156.  
  157. You have downloaded a trial version of Fine Print. If you decide to
  158. use it, registration to the full version costs $19.95. The
  159. registration mechanism we use allows payment by check, credit card,
  160. and electronic payment.  When payment is received, you will receive a
  161. registration key which you then enter into Fine Print.  Once you have
  162. Registered by entering your key, two things will happen:
  163.  
  164. 1. The "unregistered" message printed on each page will be removed.
  165. 2. The 10 page limit will be removed.
  166.  
  167. Registering entitles you to receive all future upgrades to
  168. Fine Print for a single platform.  A version for a different platform
  169. (e.g. Windows NT) will require a separate registration fee.
  170.  
  171. To register, click the Register... button in the Fine Print window and
  172. then click the Registration Info... button in the dialog box. Enter
  173. the Registration key we have sent you.

  186. We are currently working on a version of Fine Print for Windows NT.
