<<Notes on Installation>>
Each of the installations affect performance in different ways,
but as a general rule of thumb: the bigger the installation,
the better the performance.
Regardless of which installation you choose, Actua Club Soccer
needs approximately 4Mb of free disk space to run. This is needed
to cache the large animations that are played on the menu screens.
<MINIMUM>
The minimum installation copies all the data files the game
needs to play on to your hard disk. All the speech, music and
large animations played in the menus remain on the CD. As a
result of this you may experience brief pauses during the game
while extra speech and animations are loaded.
<STANDARD>
The standard installation copies all the data files the game
needs to play and approximately 50% of the speech on to your
hard disk. The rest of the speech, the music and the large
animations in the menus remain on the CD. Pauses in the game
will be less apparent than with minimum installation, but may
still exist.
<MAXIMUM>
The maximum installation copies all the data files the game
needs to play, approximately 75% of the speech and the digital
music on to hard disk. With this installation the game will
rarely pause to load extra speech or animations.
The pauses occur because CD players have a lower data transfer
rate than hard-drives.
<<Troubleshooting>>
<Quitting to the Front End from In-Game>
To quit back to the front end from within the game, the
escape key must be pressed, followed by the Y key for yes
or the N key for no.
<Memory Problems>
If you are experiencing memory problems, then please run
MemMaker at the DOS prompt (MS-Dos v6.00 and greater only -
please consult your DOS manual about use of MemMaker).
Remove any drivers that are not needed (REM them out of your
autoexec.bat and config.sys files as appropriate). If you
are still having memory problems We recommend that you REM out
SmartDrive as it can take up a lot of memory.
If you are not sure how to edit your autoexec.bat and
config.sys then please consult your DOS manuals.
<Sound>
Q. My computer locks up/hangs/freezes when autodetecting my sound
card in the installation program. What is wrong?
A. Due to hardware conflicts, autodetecting for sound cards can be
risky process. If you know the brand, port address, IRQ and
DMA of your sound card(s), then it is recommended that you
manually configure these items. Lockups are also common upon
autodetection if no sound card is installed.
Q. Why do I not hear anything when I test my sound in the install
program?
A. You may have the wrong sound card selected, incorrect port,
or IRQ/DMA settings. The volume may be set too low in your
sound drivers, (or the volume slider on the back of your sound
card), hardware conflicts or loose cables may alse be to blame.
<Controls>
When running a multi-player game on a single machine, because
there can be more players than control methods the control
method may change when two players with the the same control
method face each other. eg. Players 2 and 7 both use keyboard
1, however, when they have to face each other the computer will
re-select one of the player's controls appropriately. Always
remember to check your control method before going into the
match.
<Mouse>
Q. My mouse does not work in DOS! Why is this?
A. Make sure that you have a DOS mouse and driver that are 100%
Microsoft compatible installed. Find the directory that the
driver is located and execute the appropriate file.
<Joystick>
Q. I cannot get my joystick to work, even once I have calibrated
it. Why is this?
A. Make sure you have set the appropriate player's control method
to joystick.
<Video Card>
Q. My game crashes randomly, what is causing this?
A. This is often caused by out-of-date video drivers (VESA). We
have included a program to help fix this problem. To run the
program make sure you are in True-DOS (do not run from in a
Dos Window), then move to the Actua Club Soccer demo directory
and at the prompt type 'VESAFIX'. This will run the program and
hopefully fix the problem. If the problem persists you should
contact your supplier for the latest version of the driver(s).
Q. The Menu screens are in black and White but the game is in
colour! Why is this?
A. Again, this is due to out-of-date drivers (VESA), you should
contact your supplier for the latest version. However, you
may just have a VGA video card fitted in your machine, (VGA
cards do not support high resolution 256 colours).
<Windows>
When running the game from a Windows operating system or
environment please use the supplied .PIF or shortcut.
