  13. What's in the distribution?
  14. =======================================================================
  15. This distribution contains Direct3D drivers (Version 2.08) for Voodoo 
  16. Graphics Based 3D Accelerators.  These drivers were tested on the 
  17. following boards: 
  18.  
  19. - 3Dfx Interactive reference boards
  20. - Diamond Monster 3D
  21. - Orchid Righteous 3D
  22. - Deltron Realvision Flash 3D
  23.  
  24. NOTE:  3Dfx Interactive will provide support for 3Dfx reference board
  25. users only!! Monster 3D and Orchid Righteous 3D users are recommended to
  26. use drivers provided by each respective company to ensure that they can
  27. obtain full support.

  29. - Monster 3D supported drivers can be obtained from www.diamondmm.com
  30. - Righteous 3D supported drivers can be obtained from www.orchid.com
  31. - Flash 3D supported driver can be obtained from your Flash 3D reseller

  33. NOTE: Using these drivers over an existing Diamond Monster 3D or
  34. Orchid Righteous 3D driver install will cause the Control Panel Display
  35. properties extensions for the Monster 3D and the Righteous 3D to be
  36. removed.

  58. - PC with a Pentium or Pentium Pro Processor and a free PCI slot
  59. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested

  65. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr

  67. 1) Start Windows 95 and open Device Manager (Control Panel, System)
  68.  
  69. 2) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  70.     Obsidian Card : Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device
  71.     Monster 3D : Multimedia / Monster 3D
  72.     Righteous 3D : Sound, Video and Game Contrl / Righteous 3D
  73.  
  74. 3) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  75.  
  76. 4) Click Change Driver and choose Have Disk.
  77.  
  78. 5) Point to the location you extracted the Voodoo Graphics Direct3D 
  79.    drivers to and click OK.
  80.  
  81. 6) Select Voodoo Based 3D Accelerator from the List and click OK.  
  82.    Click OK again to save changes in Device Manager.

  84. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "DirectX Drivers for Voodoo
  85.    Based 3D Accelerator" Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted
  86.    the files to and press OK.

  88. 8) Windows will copy the drivers from the Floppy. Reboot the system 
  89.    when prompted
  90.  
  91. 9) Install DirectX 2.0 or 3.0.  (If not already installed)

  95. No Current Drivers Installed

  98. 1) Start Windows 95
  99.  
  100. 2) Copy the Voodoo Graphics Direct3D drivers you extracted to a floppy.
  101.    (This will make installation easier for a new device.)
  102.  
  103. 3) Power off System and install your Voodoo Graphics 3D Based 
  104.    Accelerator into a PCI slot. (Users with PCI to PCI bridges, should
  105.    install on a primary PCI Slot)
  106.  
  107. 4) Restart Windows 95 after hardware installation.
  108.  
  109. 5) Windows 95 will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  110.  
  111.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  112.                                         and click OK
  113.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  114.                                         Detection Dialog Box
  115.  
  116. 6) Insert the installation floppy you created in step 2 in the A: drive
  117.    and point the driver location to A:\  then click OK
  118.    (OEM SR2 users, just click Next)
  119.  
  120. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "DirectX Drivers for Voodoo
  121.    Based 3D Accelerator" Disk.  Enter A:\ and press OK.

  123. 8) Windows will copy the drivers from the Floppy. Reboot the system 
  124.    when prompted

  126. 9) Install DirectX 2.0 or 3.0.

  130. Troubleshooting

  135. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  136. for the Monster 3D or Righteous 3D is now gone
  137.  
  138. Resolution: As noted earlier, such applets and extensions are removed.
  139. Please download and install drivers from your card manufacturer, drivers
  140. may be obtained from:

  142. - Diamond supported drivers can be obtained from www.diamondmm.com
  143. - Orchid supported drivers can be obtained from www.orchid.com

  149. Problem: How I change the refresh rate and Gamma?
  150.  
  151. Resolution: Using Registry Editor, edit:
  152.  
  153.     HKLM\Software\3Dfx Interactive\Voodoo Graphics
  154.  
  155.     WARNING: Using Registry editor incorrectly can cause unexpected
  156.     results.  Only those comfortable with altering the registry 
  157.     should make changes.
