========================================================
FILE CONTENTS:
The file DMADIAG.ZIP contains the following:
1) DMADIAG.EXE
2) BUSSNOOP.VOH
3) PERF.VOH
4) R2.BAT
5) DMADIAG.TXT
========================================================
INSTALLING:
Copy the above listed files to the ICR2-3D directory by
doing either of the following:
From Win95:
While in the Win95 file manager (Explorer, or other file
utility like Norton Navigator), move the above mentioned
files to the ICR2-3D directory. You can do this by right
clicking on the files, and use the move command.
From DOS:
Go to the C:\CSERVE\DOWNLOAD directory, and use the copy
command as follows:
COPY DMADIAG.* C:\SIERRA\ICR2-3D
(or whichever directory it may be)
========================================================
RUNNING:
From the ICR2-3D directory type:
R2.BAT
This is the batch file that will start DMADIAG.EXE, and
ICR2-3D. Once you're finished with looking at all the
great-looking stuff in the game, the batch routine will
run the dump-program so that you may resume your boring
afternoon of Quake, Monster Truck Madness, etc.

BACKGROUND:
I've been a beta-tester for Rendition for sveral months.
I don't actually beta-test anything, as my offial statis
is a Rendition Software Developer...whatever that means.
I've also managed to lay my hands on some pretty cool
things from Papyrus, such as the early 3D versions of
ICR2. In the old days, we didn't have it as easy as you
young whipper-snappers...none of this "indyfast", or
"indysafe" stuff...no sir, we had to walk 10-miles in
snow to get to the 7-11!!
Actually, in order for us<g> to switch between DMA and
non-DMA, we had to edit the batch routine that changed
a few things:
set speedy3d=\icr2
set speedy3d_dma=1
indycar -h -grn1
This by itself wasn't too bad, except it didn't always
work on all systems. It was already known that older
Triton chipsets would have to use FIFO (indysafe),
because they didn't support the required DMA buffering
for ICR2-3D. To get around this (since I was stuck with
an older chipset), I promptly went out an purchased a
new motherboard of the off-the-wall variety. I did know,
however, that I wanted the latest Triton chipset.
Although I was able to run ICR2-3D after rebooting from
Win95 to MS-DOS, as well as Win95 itself (which I was
told by Papyrus Wouldn't work...nyeh!), I wasn't able to
run the game in straight DOS (from system startup). What
I would get is a screen with graphic-garbage at the top,
BUT HEY - I could still hear Paul Page!! =)
Anyway, I had resolved to leaving well enough alone, and
Papyrus was at a loss as to what was wrong...
Until one day...(there's always one of these<g>), just
after the Rendition boards were released, a friend of
mine (let's just call him Dave Sparks for now - it's his
name anyway), was also having this problem. Well, one
thing led to another, and for some strange reason I sent
him some of the original files from the earlier ICR2-3D.
He found by running the inclosed program DMADIAG.EXE,
that afterwards he could run ICR2-3D in straight DOS!!
"Very cool indeed", I said... :)
That's all there is to it...anyway, that's all I can
remember for now.
