  1. Installing Sound Blaster Drivers for Windows NT 3.5
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  4. This readme file provides information on how to install the latest
  5. Sound Blaster drivers in the Windows NT 3.5 operating system.
  6.  
  7. To install these drivers for different Sound Blaster cards, please read
  8. one of the the following sections carefully:
  9.  
  10. (1) SB16 sound card only
  11. (2) AWE32 or SB32 sound card 
  12. (3) SB16 sound card with Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card
  13. (4) Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card only
  14.  
  15. To find out more about the PnP support offered by these drivers, read
  16. this section:
  17. (5) Support for Plug and Play cards

  19.  
  20. (1) SB16 SOUND CARD ONLY
  21.     --------------------
  22.     To install the drivers for a SB16 sound card:
  23.  
  24.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  25.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  26.  
  27.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  28.        floppy drive.
  29.  
  30.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  31.        SB16 drivers. 
  32.        
  33.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.
  34.  
  35.     5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where
  36.        the OEMSETUP.INF file is.  Type in the letter of the drive
  37.        containing the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press
  38.        "ENTER".
  39.  
  40.     6. Select "Creative Tech. Sound Blaster 16".
  41.  
  42.     7. Click the "New" button.
  43.  
  44.     8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster
  45.        hardware settings like base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port
  46.        settings. All the .SYS files will be copied into the
  47.        C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory.  The .ACV and .DLL files
  48.        will go into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32 directory.

  50.     9. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot the
  51.        system. Click the "Restart Now" button.

  55. (2) AWE32 OR SB32 SOUND CARD
  56.     ---------------------------
  57.     To install the drivers for an AWE32 or SB32 sound card:
  58.     
  59.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  60.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  61.  
  62.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  63.        floppy drive.
  64.  
  65.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  66.        SB16 drivers. 
  67.        
  68.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.
  69.  
  70.     5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the
  71.        OEMSETUP.INF file is.  Type in the letter of the drive containing
  72.        the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press "ENTER".

  74.     6. Select "Creative Tech. Sound Blaster 16".
  75.  
  76.     7. Click the "New" button.

  78.     8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster
  79.        hardware settings like base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port

  85.        system.  CLICK THE "Dont' Restart Now" BUTTON AT THIS POINT.

  87.     10.Repeat steps 3 to 5 again.

  89.     11.This time, select the "Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth"
  90.        option.

  92.     12.At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your
  93.        system.  Click the "Restart Now" button.

  96. (3) SB16 SOUND CARD WITH ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD

  98.     To install the drivers if your system has a SB16 sound card and an
  99.     Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card:

  101.     1. Follow the steps outlined in section (2).

  104. (4) ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD
  105.     --------------------------------
  106.     To install the drivers for an Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card:
  107.  
  108.     1. Open the Control Panel folder.  Double-click the "Drivers" icon.
  109.        Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers.
  110.  
  111.     2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a
  112.        floppy drive.
  113.  
  114.     3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the
  115.        SB16 drivers.  
  116.        
  117.     4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option.
  118.  
  119.     5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the
  120.        OEMSETUP.INF file is.  Type in the letter of the drive containing
  121.        the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press "ENTER".

  123.     6. Select the "Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth" option.

  125.     7. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your
  126.        system.  Click the "Restart Now" button.

  129. (5) SUPPORT FOR PLUG AND PLAY CARDS
  130.     -------------------------------
  131.     These latest drivers also support all Creative Plug and Play (PnP)
  132.     cards, initializing the sound devices in the PnP cards during
  133.     boot-up.
  134.     
  135.     The driver configuration dialog box has been changed to support
  136.     Plug and Play.  The dialog box now sports an extra control, Auto
  137.     Configuration, at the bottom.  If Auto Configuration is enabled,
  138.     the driver will try to initialize the PnP hardware with the best
  139.     possible configuration of all available choices.
  140.     
  141.     Note:   When Auto Configuration is enabled, the Port, IRQ, DMA and
  142.         MPU-401 controls are disabled.  When Auto Configuration is
  143.         disabled, these controls are enabled, letting you customize
  144.         your own configuration.
