  9. !!!WARNING!!!
  10. Never attempt to Flash your BIOS from a hard disk, DOS Window, DOS 
  11. shell, or in Windows NT. If your system is working without problems 
  12. or conflicts, then it is not recommended that you flash your BIOS. 
  13. Improper flashing procedures may result in a dead system! Follow the 
  14. these instructions carefully.

  29. BIOS Update Instructions
  30.  
  31. There are two ways in which we recommend to flash the BIOS. 
  32. They will be termed as follows:
  33.  
  34. . The ALT+F2 Method 
  35. . The Boot Disk Method 
  36.  
  37. The ALT+F2 method may not be available on older mainboards with older 
  38. BIOS, in such cases it is necessary to carry out the Boot Disk Method.
  39.

  42. The ALT+F2 Method
  43.  
  44. 1. Download the required BIOS image file from the EPoX website. 
  45.  
  46. 2. Copy or extract the BIOS image file (named xxxxxxxx.bin) to a blank
  47. floppy disk with no bad sectors on it.
  48.  
  49. 3. Restart the machine with the floppy disk in the floppy drive 
  50. When prompted at machine initialization, press ALT+F2 to begin 
  51. performing the flashing of the BIOS. 
  52.  
  53. 4. The BIOS will automatically flash and reboot the machine. 
  54.  
  55. 5. After this, press DEL to enter the BIOS setup and select to "LOAD
  56. OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS". After doing this select to "SAVE & EXIT."
  57.  
  58. 6. Please note that this does not create a backup of the BIOS binary file. 
  59.  
  60. 7. This does not require you to have a bootable floppy disk. 
  61.

  64. The Boot Disk Method
  65.  
  66. 1. Create a bootable floppy disk in accordance with the instructions 
  67. laid out in the manual of your particular operating system. This 
  68. bootable floppy needs to be able to boot to a DOS console capable of
  69. executing normal MS-DOS batch and executable files.
  70.  
  71. 2. Download and extract the xxxxxxxx.EXE file corresponding to your 
  72. model from the EPoX website to the floppy. It will self extract into 
  73. the above listed files.
  74.  
  75. 3. Boot using your DOS floppy disk to the 羨:\> command prompt. At the 
  76. DOS command prompt type: UPDATE
  77.  
  78. 4. The BIOS will automatically flash.
  79.  
  80. 5. Reboot the machine. 
  81.  
  82. 6. After this, press DEL to enter the BIOS setup and select to "LOAD
  83. OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS". After doing this select to "SAVE & EXIT."
  84.  
  85. Note: During the use of UPDATE a backup of your original BIOS 
  86. date/code will be saved in the same directory as the UPDATE file. It 
  87. will be called 前LD.BIN and can be used with the restore 
  88. instructions below in case you need to revert back to the original 
  89. BIOS date/code.

  93. BIOS Restore Instructions
  94.  
  95. Use of the restore procedure requires the OLD.BIN file created in the 
  96. Boot Disk method procedure above! 
  97.  
  98. 1. Boot using your DOS floppy disk to the 羨:\> command prompt. At 
  99. the DOS command prompt type: RESTORE
  100.  
  101. 2. The BIOS will automatically flash.
  102.  
  103. 3. Reboot the machine. 
  104.  
  105. 4. After this, press DEL to enter the BIOS setup and select to "LOAD
  106. OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS". After doing this select to "SAVE & EXIT." 
  107.  
  108. 5. The system flash is now completed and should now be reverted back 
  109. to the original BIOS date/code.

  113. BIOS flash failed
  114.  
  115. If you have access to an old un-accelerated ISA video card, you might 
  116. be able to recover your BIOS. Remove all cards and drives from your 
  117. system, except for the ISA video card and the floppy drive. Then try 
  118. to boot from a system disk (a bootable floppy with only the flash 
  119. programs and corresponding BIOS binary). If you are able to boot to 
  120. the floppy, flash your BIOS according to the directions above.

  124. I get out of memory errors when I flash my BIOS! 
  125.  
  126. On some system configurations, even with a clean boot disk, you will 
  127. get an out of memory error (insufficient memory) when you try to 
  128. flash your BIOS. The solution is simple: Try bypassing the startup 
  129. files by pressing the following keys during startup using you 
  130. bootable floppy disk. Attempt the FLASH again.
  131.  
  132. DOS 6.2x boot disks - press F5 to bypass. 
  133. WINDOWS 95/98 boot disks - press F8 and select "Safe command prompt." 
  134. Lastly try using a MS-DOS 6.x boot disk.

  138. Manual use of the AWDFLASH Utility
  139.  
  140. Most users will find that our UPDATE and RESTORE batch files can 
  141. accomplish the BIOS flash with the majority of configurations. But if 
  142. you wish to manually use the AWDFLASH utility, below are the most 
  143. common command line usages and parameters.
