  8.  This document covers IMPORTANT material NOT contained in the user's guide.
  9.  Please read ALL of this information carefully! SEE THE NEW FEATURES section
  10.  for some of the real power waiting for you in version 5.0 and new features
  11.  that are NOT covered in the help or documentation.

  13.  Important Installation Directions
  14.  The Zip Manager Program Files
  15.  --------------------------------- 
  16.  The Zip Manager program files are in compressed format, each file ends
  17.  with an _ character.  You must run the ZMSETUP program to expand them
  18.  before the program can be used. You must run ZMSETUP.EXE from the Windows
  19.  Program Manager.  Other shells like the Norton Desktop or PC Tools for
  20.  Windows are not 100% compatible with our setup program and may cause it to
  21.  fail when attempting to create the Zip Manager Group.

  23.  Running The ZMSETUP Program
  24.  ----------------------------
  25.  1. From the Program Manager File Menu choose Run...
  26.  2. Enter the location of the ZMSETUP Program. If the files were on your
  27.     A: drive then you would enter: A:\ZMSETUP and press Enter or Click on
  28.     the OK button.
  29.  3. The Zip Manager setup dialog will be displayed.
  30.  4. The edit field will display a suggested directory.
  31.  5. Press OK to accept the default directory or enter new destination
  32.     directory and press Enter or Click on the OK button.
  33.  6. The setup program will create the directory for you and display
  34.     the file installation progress.
  35.  7. When it has finished expanding and copying the files it will create
  36.     a new Program Manager Group and add the program files to the group.
  37.     Now you can proceed with the next step.

  39.  To Complete The Installation
  40.  ----------------------------
  41.  After the installation program is finished you MUST read the installation
  42.  section of the Users' Guide.  You will see its icon in the Zip Manager 5.0
  43.  group. You must setup the program's default directories, and configure
  44.  the program to work with your Virus Detection software.

  47.  -> Network Users Please Note <-
  48.  -------------------------------
  49.  Version 5.0 DOES NOT recognize network drives.  This was the best solution
  50.  available to prevent its use on shared drives.  The single user version
  51.  is designed to defeat file locking and share if at all possible. This
  52.  allows single users to avoid any dubious sharing violation errors.
  53.  If you are using Zip Manager in a NON COMMERCIAL / NON PROFIT Environment
  54.  the network upgrade is free, for all other users the upgrade is $10.00
  55.  which covers our cost of materials and labor.

  61.  The Program You Asked And Waited For Is Here!

  63.  Zip Manager is no longer a shell!  Version 5.0 is now a complete program
  64.  with its own Windows based Zip and Unzip.  ZMZIP and ZMUNZIP have been
  65.  meticulously crafted especially for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT.
  66.  We're sure that you will enjoy their speed and multi-tasking abilities!
  67.  Zip Manager creates 100% compatible 2.04 format zip files with compression
  68.  rates equal to PKZIP 2.04, and the speed will amaze you!

  87.  Self Extracting Archive Support
  88.  -------------------------------
  89.  Zip Manager now fully supports self extracting EXE files as normal archive
  90.  files.  You double click on them to open them into the archive pane as you
  91.  would any other Zip or Arj file.  You can then perform any option available
  92.  to archive files on them.

  94.  File Re-Naming Support On Extraction
  95.  -----------------------------------
  96.  If Zip Manager encounters a file with the same name when extracting a zip
  97.  file it gives you the option of entering a new file name. Only Zip Manager
  98.  and ARJ offer users this convenient option!

  100.  Directory Creation On Extraction
  101.  --------------------------------
  102.  Many users asked for this feature so that they could have a new directory
  103.  created if they wanted to when the Zip file was extracted. Zip Manager
  104.  can even create a multiple level directory.  If for example you entered:
  105.  c:\test1\test2\test3  Zip Manager would create that directory structure
  106.  and extract the files into the test3 sub directory!
  107.  
  108.  Drag and Drop Server
  109.  --------------------
  110.  Version 5 is now a Drag and Drop server, which means that you can drag
  111.  files from Zip Manager and drop them on any program or other file manager
  112.  for Windows to copy, move, or even add them to a program manager group.
  113.  This functionality applies to files in archives and normal files shown
  114.  in the directory pane.

  116.  . Dot and .. Double Dot Support
  117.  --------------------------------
  118.  This release supports the . and .. as target directories when creating
  119.  or extracting files.  You can enter a . or a .. in the target directory
  120.  combo box instead of typing in the full directory name.

  123.  a complete listing of all the improvements in version 5.0, especially ZMZIP
  124.  and ZMUNZIP.

  127.  Important Program Notes
  128.  ***********************

  130.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  131.  ---------------------------------------------
  132.  Do NOT put the Zip Manager program files deep in a directory tree. Doing
  133.  so may make it impossible for Zip Manager to work with the DOS programs,
  134.  ARJ and PKZIP.  We suggest that you install Zip Manager in its own directory
  135.  off of the root directory.  c:\zipmgr, would be a good example.  Zip Manager
  136.  is designed to compress and extract files in very deep directories, but the
  137.  actual program files need to be in a directory of off the root.
  138.  
  139.  VERY IMPORTANT -> Please Note The Following:
  140.  ---------------------------------------------
  141.  Zip Manager creates its own temporary directory called zm5temp which it
  142.  uses to extract and store files. DO NOT use this directory, since all of
  143.  the files in it are deleted when Zip Manager ends.  We wanted to be sure
  144.  that you didn't set this as one of your default directories.
  145.  If you did all of your files would be gone when Zip Manager closed!
  146.  There was a bit of confusion about the usage of this directory and we
  147.  wanted to make sure  that you didn't lose any files accidently.

  149.  Virus Detection Programs
  150.  ------------------------
  151.  Note:  In order for your virus detection program to work with Zip Manager
  152.  it MUST be able to accept command line arguments. Read the users guide
  153.  installation section for instructions on how to determine if your program
  154.  will work with Zip Manager.

  156.  Possible Parameter Combinations For Virus Detection programs.

  158.  In the Zip Manager Setup Dialog Enter the following after the program
  159.  location name and directory.
  160.  
  161.  For Example, X:\UTILITIES\NAVW.EXE /auto *.* /S would be the correct
  162.  command for the Norton Anti Virus for Windows Program.
  163.  
  164.  Listed below are the (sometimes) correct switch parameters for most popular
  165.  virus detection programs. You will most likely still need to experiment a
  166.  little to get some of them to work.  We use and recommend SCAN.EXE from
  167.  McAfee and Associates.

  176.  Important Note On Converting Files!
  177.  -----------------------------------
  178.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONVERT MORE THAN ONE FILE AT A TIME. When converting
  179.  a file from ZIP to ARJ or ARC to ZIP for example, you would force the
  180.  conversion process to open up more than one copy of PKZIP.  This can
  181.  easily RESULT IN SEVERE DATA LOSS.  The Zip Manager was designed to convert
  182.  only one file at time, so please be careful.

  184.  Maintenance Releases and Upgrades
  185.  ----------------------------------
  186.  All maintenance and minor version upgrades will be available ONLY on our
  187.  BBS. Since these releases will contain only the upgraded files it will
  188.  save you download time and keep the files on our board where they won't
  189.  inadvertently be downloaded as the complete program.
