  47.         This file explains how to setup and to configure the ELSA        
  48.         Windows 2000  driver software for your graphics board.

  58. 2       List of Installation Files                                       
  59.                                                                          
  60.         The directory with the ELSA graphics driver for Windows NT       
  61.         contains the following files:                                    
  62.

  65.         DISK1                 source disk identifier

  74. 3       Installation                                                     
  75.                                                                          
  76.         NOTE: This driver was designed for full functionality under      
  77.               Windows 2000 RC3 (Build 2183) or newer only!               
  78.                                                                          
  79. 3.1     Installation of the ELSA graphics driver                         
  80.                                                                          
  81.         First shut down your computer and exchange the graphics board    
  82.         with the ELSA GLADIAC.              
  83.                                                                          
  84.         Your graphics board requires an hardware interrupt (IRQ). Please 
  85.         assign a unique IRQ to the slot which is related to your         
  86.         graphics board in the mainboard BIOS if it provides this option. 
  87.         At Windows 2000 startup, it selects the default standard VGA     
  88.         driver or a driver provided by the graphics chip vendor.         
  89.         Please note that none of these drivers supports the full         
  90.         functionality which is provided by this board.                   
  91.                                                                          
  92.         To install this graphics driver you have to ensure to have       
  93.         administrator rights for your Windows 2000 system. Please close  
  94.         all running applications before installing any new driver.       
  95.                                                                          
  96.         There are several ways in Windows 2000 to install a display      
  97.         adapter, a universal way is to use the 'Device Manager'.         
  98.         Right-click the icon 'My Computer' on your windows desktop.      
  99.         Select 'Manage' to start the Windows 2000'Computer Management    
  100.         Console'. Select the entry 'Device Manager'. The entry of your   
  101.         graphics adapter is located either in 'Other Devices'            
  102.         or in 'Display Adapters'. Open the properties window for the     
  103.         display adapter by right-clicking the entry.                     
  104.         (If there isn't an entry for any display device, you should      
  105.         right-click the root icon on the right Window and activate 'Scan 
  106.         for hardware changes'.)                                          
  107.         Select the tab 'Driver' and then 'Update Driver' to start the    
  108.         Windows 2000 'Upgrade Device Driver Wizard'.                     
  109.         Click 'Next  to close the welcome dialog and select 'display   
  110.         a list of known drivers...'. Click 'Next'. Depending on where    
  111.         the entry has been located, another dialog may appear, asking    
  112.         what kind of Hardware should be installed. In that case, select  
  113.         'Graphics Adapter'. After confirmation Windows starts searching  
  114.         for known drivers. Please select the 'Have disk...' button and   
  115.         change the entry to the location of your new drivers             
  116.         (i.e 'E:\ELSA\WIN2000') by the 'browse...' button.               
  117.                                                                          
  118.         After that, the update device driver window shows a listing of   
  119.         boards supported by the display driver. Select your hardware and 
  120.         click 'Next  or 'Yes' until the finishing dialog appears.
  121.         Confirm and close all dialog windows. If required Windows 2000   
  122.         will ask for restarting the computer. The driver installation is 
  123.         finished. To change the display resolution please open the       
  124.         display properties dialog again (e.g by right-clicking the       
  125.         desktop and choose 'Properties' from pop-up menu) and select     
  126.         'Settings'. By clicking the button 'Advanced...' and choose      
  127.         'Monitor' you will be able to change the refresh rate of your    
  128.         display. Please note that only display refresh frequencies of    
  129.         75 Hz or above are suitable for ergonomic working.               
  130.                                                                          
  131.         Your monitor should be configurated correctly also, to provide   
  132.         proper refresh rates. To check or do this, start the display     
  133.         properties like described above, select the 'Settings' tab,      
  134.         click 'Advanced...', the 'Monitor' tab, 'Properties...', the     
  135.         'Driver' tab of the following dialog and click on 'Update        
  136.         Driver...'. The assistant asks for the monitor driver disk.      
  137.         Please confirm everything, restarting your system won't be       
  138.         necessary.                                                       
  139.                                                                          
  140.         NOTE:   With the installation of the Windows 2000 driver, the    
  141.                 ELSA OpenGL driver is automatically installed, too.      
  142.                 Please don't use any other OpenGL driver but the         
  143.                 originally provided with the installed display driver    
  144.                 files.

  146. 3.2     Making Installation Disks                                        
  147.                                                                          
  148.         To create installation disks for the ELSA graphics driver        
  149.         you will need an empty floppy disk labeled:                      
  150.                                                                          
  151.         "ELSA Windows 2000 DISK 1".                                      
  152.                                                                          
  153.         Copy the files from the according graphics board directory       
  154.         on the driver CD-ROM to the prepared disk.

  158. 3.3.    Determining the Version Number of the Driver via the Driver      
  159.         Files                                                            
  160.                                                                          
  161.         Use the Explorer to inspect the file properties for one of       
  162.         the files egdam.sys or egdad.dll. The file egdam.sys can be 
  163.         found in the directory System32\Drivers, the egdad.dll file
  164.         in the System32 directory of your Windows 2000 installation.     
  165.

  168. 4.      Known Problems:                                                  
  169.                                                                          
  170.         - The display driver is installed successfully, but after        
  171.           rebooting the system, the driver is not activated.             
  172.           Your graphics board requires a free IRQ to work properly.      
  173.           Please assign a unique IRQ to the slot which is related to     
  174.           your graphics board. Be sure to have no hardware conlicts with 
  175.           other installed hardware components.                           
  176.                                                                          
  177.         - Some programs will not work correctly because they are not     
  178.           designed to run with Windows 2000.                             
  179.                                                                          
  180.         - This version will not work with Windows 2000 releases earlier  
  181.           than RC3.                                                      
  182.                                                                          
  183.         - There ist no automatically setup program implemented.          
  184.           Please install this driver manually.                           
  185.                                                                          
  186.         - Some D3D benchmark applications like 3DMark2000                
  187.           may crash sporadically.
