  49. 1.      Overview

  51.         FLASH_R.EXE is a utility to easily update the BIOS on an
  52.         ELSA GLADIAC graphics board.
  53.  
  54.         You will find a list of supported ELSA graphics boards
  55.         in section 4.1.

  62.         The program disk/CD contains the following files:

  64.         FLASH_R.EXE    the executable program
  65.         
  66.         RUN386.EXE      DOS extender used by FLASH_R.EXE

  68.         README.TXT      this text file, including notes on the
  69.                         current program release

  71.         LIESMICH.TXT    German version of the text you are currently
  72.                         reading

  74.         IMAGES (DIR)    Subdirectory containing the BIOS images which
  75.                         are used for update

  80. 3.      Usage Notes
  81.  
  82. 3.1     Standard BIOS update
  83.  
  84.         If you want to update the BIOS on your ELSA GLADIAC
  85.         graphics board just call FLASH_R.EXE from MS-DOS:
  86.  
  87.         FLASH_R.EXE
  88.  
  89.         The program looks for supported ELSA graphics boards.
  90.         If the program finds one of the supported graphics boards
  91.         in your computer, it will search for the correct BIOS image
  92.         in the directory IMAGES.
  93.  
  94.         After confirmation the program will save your old BIOS to the
  95.         file C:\OLD_xxxx.bin (xxxx is a number, i.e. C:\OLD_0000.bin,
  96.         C:\OLD_0001.bin, ...) and program the new image to your
  97.         ELSA graphics board.
  98.  
  99.         Notes:
  100.  
  101.         - If the BIOS currently installed is the same or older than 
  102.           the one in IMAGES, you will be asked if you really want to 
  103.           program an old BIOS version to your graphics board.
  104.           If you confirm with 'y' your current BIOS will be saved to
  105.           C:\OLD_xxxx.bin and the older image will be programmed
  106.           to your ELSA graphics board.

  109. 3.2     Command Line Parameters
  110.  
  111.         FLASH_R.EXE -f [filename]
  112.  
  113.         It is possible to pass the filename of the BIOS image you want
  114.         to program to your graphics board to FLASH_R.EXE.
  115.         If you i.e. pass the name of the saved image to FLASH_R.EXE it
  116.         is possible to restore your saved BIOS version to your
  117.         ELSA graphics board:
  118.  
  119.         (e.g.: FLASH_R.EXE -f C:\OLD_0000.BIN)
  120.  
  121.         FLASH_R.EXE will check if the BIOS matches your graphics board.
  122.         If not you will get a note.
  123.  
  124.         FLASH_R.EXE -b [directory]
  125.  
  126.         This command line parameter will cause FLASH_R.EXE to save
  127.         your old BIOS (OLD_xxxx.bin) to the specified directory
  128.         instead of C:\.

  137. 4.1     Supported graphics boards
  138.  
  139.         ELSA GLADIAC
  140.  
  141.         The program FLASH_R.EXE will check if the BIOS image is valid
  142.         and useable with your ELSA graphics board.
  143.  
  144. 4.2     DOS video support
  145.  
  146.         The GLADIAC BIOS version 1.00.00 does not support video
  147.         in DOS.

  152. 5.      Notes & Warnings
  153.  
  154. 5.1     Don't corrupt your BIOS!
  155.  
  156.         Please make sure that while programming a new BIOS to your
  157.         ELSA graphics board you
  158.  
  159.         - don't reset,
  160.         - don't switch off
  161.           or
  162.         - don't interrupt your computer in any way until it's finished!
  163.  
  164.         If you interrupt FLASH_R.EXE in any way before finishing your
  165.         BIOS, you will corrupt the BIOS of your graphics board.
  166.         In this case, please phone our support.
  167.  
  168.         Please wait, until FLASH_R.EXE has finished programming the new
  169.         BIOS to your ELSA graphics board.
  170.  
  171.         The program FLASH_R.EXE will give you a note after it has
  172.         successfully finished the BIOS programming.
  173.  
  174.         On the ELSA GLADIAC the screen will go off while acessing 
  175.         the BIOS. FLASH_R.EXE will give you a note too.

  178. 5.2     Windows DOS-boxes, OS/2
  179.  
  180.         Please note that the program FLASH_R.EXE doesn't work in a
  181.         Windows (95/98/2000/NT) DOS-box or under OS/2.

  183.         You have to boot a DOS system.
