  99. Installation
  100. ============
  101.  
  102. - The software setup program stops if you don't have a Matrox Marvel or
  103.   Rainbow Runner G-Series card properly installed in your computer, or if 
  104.   recent Matrox display drivers aren't installed.
  105.  
  106. - If you see a message indicating that DirectX Media can't be installed, 
  107.   it may be because DirectX Media is already installed on your computer. 
  108.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the software 
  109.   installation.
  110.  
  111. - To remove Matrox video software, click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control
  112.   Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" (double-click) -> "Matrox Video Tools" -> 
  113.   "Add/Remove".  You should restart your computer immediately after you 
  114.   remove the software.

  116.  
  117. Notes, problems, and limitations
  118. ================================
  119.  
  120. - There are maximum video window sizes for viewing video files recorded 
  121.   with MJPEG and live video ("TV" or "LINE" input). These maximum video 
  122.   window sizes depend on your display settings and graphics card. For more 
  123.   information, see the "Display information" section of the manual for your 
  124.   Matrox video editing card.
  125.  
  126. - Using a full-screen DOS window or changing display settings (resolution or 
  127.   color palette) may cause problems if, at the same time, you're playing back 
  128.   or recording a video file, or using the Closed Captioning feature.
  129.  
  130. - Suspend mode is not supported by Matrox video software.
  131.  
  132. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file 
  133.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote 
  134.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  135.  
  136. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the 
  137.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may 
  138.   restore control.
  139.  
  140. - Only one program at a time can use Matrox video editing hardware. Before 
  141.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be 
  142.   running.
  143.  
  144. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files 
  145.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  146.  
  147. - The Matrox VidCap driver is designed to work only with 32-bit programs
  148.   (programs designed for Windows 95/98). You can't use 16-bit programs 
  149.   (programs designed for Windows 3.1) with your Matrox video editing
  150.   hardware.
  151.  
  152. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card (for example 
  153.   the SoundScape Vivo 90) will lose audio when seeking or stopping and 
  154.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or 
  155.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the 
  156.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  157.  
  158. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equiped with the ESS 
  159.   audio chip (for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops) may experience a 
  160.   loss of audio-video synchronisation when playing back video files. Video 
  161.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  162.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar 
  163.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  164.  
  165. - If you don't see "Matrox MJPEG" in the list of video file encoding methods 
  166.   (codecs) available in Adobe Premiere, and Ulead MediaStudio is installed on 
  167.   your computer, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Premiere and 
  168.   MediaStudio.
  169.  
  170. - If you experience problems using Adobe Premiere (for example, the program
  171.   stops unexpectedly), try creating or editing a text-only file named 
  172.   "Prem50.ini" in your Premiere folder. (You can use the Notepad program to 
  173.   edit or save this file.) "Prem50.ini" should contain the following lines:
  174.  
  175.   [override]
  176.   NoDirectShow=1
  177.  
  178.   [codec]
  179.   keepopen=dmb1
  180.  
  181. - With sound drivers included with Windows 98 (WDM drivers), video 
  182.   files may be recorded with audio sync problems. You may notice such 
  183.   problems when you play back a video file you recorded. If you experience 
  184.   such problems, try installing the driver that came with your computer sound
  185.   device or get a driver update from your sound device manufacturer. For more 
  186.   information, see the documentation for your sound device.
  187.  
  188.   To change your sound device driver:
  189.  
  190.   (1) Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop background,
  191.       then click "Properties" -> "Device Manager".
  192.  
  193.   (2) Double-click the "Sound, video and game controllers" item to display a 
  194.       list of drivers.
  195.  
  196.   (3) Double-click the name of your sound device. then click "Driver" -> 
  197.       "Update Driver" -> "Next" -> "Display a list of all drivers..." -> 
  198.       "Next" -> "Have Disk". 
  199.  
  200.   (4) Type or browse to the path of the INF file for your sound drivers, then 
  201.       click "OK" -> "Next" -> "Finish". (Windows may warn you that you're 
  202.       installing a driver older than the current one. If so, continue with 
  203.       the installation.) 
  204.  
  205.   (5) Click "Yes" to restart your computer.
  206.  
  207.   (6) Repeat steps 1-6 for each sound device in your computer. 
  208.  
  209. - If your video file playback appears jerky, your hard disk may be too slow.
  210.   If your hard disk and your version of Windows supports DMA (Direct Memory
  211.   Access), you can enable this feature to speed up your hard disk and possibly
  212.   give less jerky video. For more information, see "Troubleshooting" in
  213.   your Matrox manual.
  214.  
  215. - When recording more than 2 GB of video with the Matrox PC-VCR Remote 
  216.   program, there may be a small gap between video files. The amount of 
  217.   video missing depends on the performance of your system.
  218.  
  219. - If you're using a video editing program that lets you select a field
  220.   order for video editing, select field B (the second field). If you use 
  221.   field order A, you may notice problems with transitions between clips or
  222.   special effects. For more information, see the documentation for your
  223.   video editing program.
  224.  
  225. - If you experience image quality problems while viewing "LINE" input from a 
  226.   video player, try manually adjusting the tracking with the "Videotracker" 
  227.   program included in your "Matrox Video Tools" folder. This may solve 
  228.   problems with skipping images, bad colors and dropped frames while 
  229.   recording. However, this program can't improve the quality of a low-quality 
  230.   video source. Low-quality video may be caused by low-quality video 
  231.   equipment (for example, video players, video cameras, cables and/or 
  232.   connections).
  233.  
  234. - If you're using more than one graphics card with Windows 98, your Matrox 
  235.   video input hardware must be on the graphics card that controls your 
  236.   primary display. The "primary display" is the one that first displays 
  237.   information when your computer restarts. The order that your computer 
  238.   detects each card is determined by the expansion slot each card is in and 
  239.   by the BIOS (Basic Input/Output Settings) of your computer. For more 
  240.   information, see your system manual or contact your system vendor.
  241.  
  242. - If you're using multiple displays with Windows 98, the window for viewing 
  243.   video from your Matrox video input hardware must be on your primary 
  244.   display (unless you're using a DualHead-supporting graphics card). If your 
  245.   Matrox video input hardware is on a DualHead-supporting graphics card and 
  246.   you're using "DualHead Multi-Display" mode, the video window may be on your 
  247.   main or secondary display.
