  76. Installation
  77. ============

  79. - The software setup program stops if you don't have a Matrox Marvel or
  80.   Rainbow Runner G-Series card properly installed in your computer, or if 
  81.   recent Matrox display drivers aren't installed.
  82.  
  83. - If you see a message indicating that DirectX Media can't be installed, 
  84.   it may be because DirectX Media is already installed on your computer. 
  85.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the software 
  86.   installation.
  87.  
  88. - To remove Matrox video software, click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control
  89.   Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" (double-click) -> "Matrox Video Tools" -> 
  90.   "Add/Remove".  You should restart your computer immediately after you 
  91.   remove the software.

  94. Notes, problems, and limitations
  95. ================================
  96.  
  97. - There are maximum video window sizes for viewing video files recorded 
  98.   with MJPEG and live video ("TV" or "LINE" input). These maximum video 
  99.   window sizes depend on your display settings and graphics card. For more 
  100.   information, see the "Display information" section of the manual for your 
  101.   Matrox video editing card.
  102.  
  103. - Using a full-screen DOS window or changing display settings (resolution or 
  104.   color palette) may cause problems if, at the same time, you're playing back 
  105.   or recording a video file, or using the Closed Captioning feature.
  106.  
  107. - Suspend mode is not supported by Matrox video software.
  108.  
  109. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file 
  110.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote 
  111.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  112.  
  113. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the 
  114.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may 
  115.   restore control.
  116.  
  117. - Only one program at a time can use Matrox video editing hardware. Before 
  118.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be 
  119.   running.
  120.  
  121. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files 
  122.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  123.  
  124. - The Matrox VidCap driver is designed to work only with 32-bit programs
  125.   (programs designed for Windows 95/98). You can't use 16-bit programs 
  126.   (programs designed for Windows 3.1) with your Matrox video editing
  127.   hardware.
  128.  
  129. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card (for example 
  130.   the SoundScape Vivo 90) will lose audio when seeking or stopping and 
  131.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or 
  132.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the 
  133.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  134.  
  135. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equiped with the ESS 
  136.   audio chip (for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops) may experience a 
  137.   loss of audio-video synchronisation when playing back video files. Video 
  138.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  139.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar 
  140.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  141.  
  142. - If you don't see "Matrox MJPEG" in the list of video file encoding methods 
  143.   (codecs) available in Adobe Premiere, and Ulead MediaStudio is installed on 
  144.   your computer, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Premiere and 
  145.   MediaStudio.
  146.  
  147. - If you experience problems using Adobe Premiere (for example, the program
  148.   stops unexpectedly), try creating or editing a text-only file named 
  149.   "Prem50.ini" in your Premiere folder. (You can use the Notepad program to 
  150.   edit or save this file.) "Prem50.ini" should contain the following lines:

  154.  
  155.   [codec]
  156.   keepopen=dmb1
  157.  
  158. - With sound drivers included with Windows 98 (WDM drivers), video 
  159.   files may be recorded with audio sync problems. You may notice such 
  160.   problems when you play back a video file you recorded. If you experience 
  161.   such problems, try installing the driver that came with your computer sound
  162.   device or get a driver update from your sound device manufacturer. For more 
  163.   information, see the documentation for your sound device.

  165.   To change your sound device driver:
  166.  
  167.   (1) Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop background,
  168.       then click "Properties" -> "Device Manager".
  169.  
  170.   (2) Double-click the "Sound, video and game controllers" item to display a 
  171.       list of drivers.
  172.  
  173.   (3) Double-click the name of your sound device. then click "Driver" -> 
  174.       "Update Driver" -> "Next" -> "Display a list of all drivers..." -> 
  175.       "Next" -> "Have Disk". 
  176.  
  177.   (4) Type or browse to the path of the INF file for your sound drivers, then 
  178.       click "OK" -> "Next" -> "Finish". (Windows may warn you that you're 
  179.       installing a driver older than the current one. If so, continue with 
  180.       the installation.) 
  181.  
  182.   (5) Click "Yes" to restart your computer.
  183.  
  184.   (6) Repeat steps 1-6 for each sound device in your computer. 
  185.     
  186. - If your video file playback appears jerky, your hard disk may be too slow.
  187.   If your hard disk and your version of Windows supports DMA (Direct Memory
  188.   Access), you can enable this feature to speed up your hard disk and possibly
  189.   give less jerky video. For more information, see "Troubleshooting" in
  190.   your Matrox manual.
  191.  
  192. - When recording more than 2 GB of video with the Matrox PC-VCR Remote 
  193.   program, there may be a small gap between video files. The amount of 
  194.   video missing depends on the performance of your system.
  195.  
  196. - If you're using a video editing program that lets you select a field
  197.   order for video editing, select field B (the second field). If you use 
  198.   field order A, you may notice problems with transitions between clips or
  199.   special effects. For more information, see the documentation for your
  200.   video editing program.
  201.  
  202. - If you're using Rainbow Runner G-Series with a Millennium G400 MAX,
  203.   the image of the Matrox MJPEG video you record may sometimes appear 
  204.   blocky if you use the highest quality settings. This problem only 
  205.   appears with certain kinds of video input signals. To avoid 
  206.   blockiness, try lowering the quality settings for video recording 
  207.   (frame size or frame rate).
  208.  
  209. - If you experience image quality problems while viewing "LINE" input from a 
  210.   video player, try manually adjusting the tracking with the "Videotracker" 
  211.   program included in your Matrox Video Tools folder. This may solve problems 
  212.   with skipping images, bad colors and dropped frames while recording. 
  213.   However, this program can't improve the quality of a low-quality video 
  214.   source. Low-quality video may be caused by low-quality video equipment 
  215.   (for example, video players, video cameras, cables and/or connections).
