  24. What's in the distribution?
  25. =======================================================================
  26. This distribution contains Voodoo Banshee drivers, control panel for 
  27. Windows 98. The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D 
  28. when using DirectX 7.0
  29.  
  30. NOTE: DirectX 7.0 redistributable files should be used with these 
  31. drivers!

  34. Installation 
  35. =======================================================================

  37. Requirements
  38. ------------
  39.  
  40. - Windows 98
  41. - PC with a Pentium, Pentium II, or Pentium Pro Processor and a free 
  42.   AGP/PCI slot
  43. - 16MB of RAM
  44.  
  45. Fresh Installation 
  46. ------------------
  47.  
  48. NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card.
  49.  
  50. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo Banshee driver to a directory.
  51. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to 
  52.    Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display.
  53.  
  54.    Select 640X480 and 16 colors.  Accept the changes.
  55.  
  56. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card.
  57. 4) Install the Voodoo Banshee Card in a free AGP/PCI Slot
  58. 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post.
  59. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode
  60.  
  61.   (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device
  62.    exists, click Cancel if this message appears)
  63.  
  64. 7) Windows will detect a new VGA Compatible Display. You need to:
  65.  
  66.                             Windows 98: Click the Next Button on the Detection 
  67.                                         Dialog Box and in the "Specify a 
  68.                                         Location" field click the checkbox 
  69.                                         then enter the path to the Win98
  70.                                         directory in the drivers location.
  71.  
  72. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 98 AGP/PCI Voodoo Banshee Driver Disk.  
  73.    Again, enter the path you specified in Step 1 and press OK.
  74. 9) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  75. 10) Install DirectX 7.0.

  78. Upgrade Existing Voodoo Banshee Drivers
  79. --------------------------------

  81. 1) Start Windows 98
  82. 2) Extract the files for the Voodoo Banshee driver to a directory.
  83. 3) Click Start, Control Panel.  Double-click on Display.
  84. 4) Click the Settings tab then click:
  85.  
  86.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Advanced Properties"
  87.  
  88. 5) Then under "Change Display Type/Advanced Display" click "Change"
  89. 6) Click "Have Disk" and enter the path specified in Step 2 plus:
  90.  
  91.                       Windows 98 users: the Win98 directory.
  92.  
  93. 7) When asked to choose a device, select "3dfx Voodoo Banshee"
  94. 8) You may then be prompted to insert the Windows 95 Voodoo Banshee Driver Disk.
  95.    Enter the path you specified in Step 2 again.
  96. 9) Windows will copy the drivers.   Reboot the system when prompted.
  97. 10) Install DirectX 7.0

  100. Limitations
  101. -----------
  102.  
  103. Running 640x480 16 Color will run SUPERVGA.DRV or VGA.DRV.  No Voodoo Banshee 
  104. features will be used.  Switch to a different resolution or color depth.
  105. Full windowed hardware acceleration with this version of the drivers is 
  106. only possible when running at 16bpp modes.

  108. Troubleshooting

  113. Problem: After installing the card, the system still detects my old 
  114. card even though it is no longer in the system.
  115. Resolution: See Step 2 of the "Fresh Installation" instructions.
