  3. ASUS V6600 Series Readme for Windows 95/98
  4. =======================================================================

  6. Installation Steps
  7. ------------------
  8.  
  9. You can use 4 methods to install Windows 95/98 display driver:
  10. Suppose the path of your driver CD is "D:\" and Use Windows 95 as an
  11. example.(Similar process can be followed in Windows 98.)
  12.  
  13. Method 1 (PnP installation)
  14.   1. Remove your previous video adapter and plug your V6600 in system.
  15.      Start Windows. Windows will find a new device and pop up a PnP dialog
  16.      that asks for its driver.
  17.   2. Type the "D:\Win9x" for Windows to find the INF file of V6600.
  18.   3. Windows will install its driver automatically and then request for
  19.      restarting.
  20.   4. Choose Yes to reboot your system. The driver will work when Windows
  21.      comes up.
  22.   5. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
  23.      You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
  24.      driver.
  25.  
  26. Method 2 (Display property page)
  27.   1. Start Windows, switch display to VGA mode, then restart.
  28.   2. Press right key of mouse on your desktop and select "Properties".
  29.   3. Click the "Settings" tab.
  30.   4. Click "Advanced...".
  31.   5. Click "Change" button on the right of the first item "Adapter Type".
  32.   6. Click "Have Disk.." button - "Install from Disk" box will appear.
  33.   7. Click "Browse" button - "Open" box appears.
  34.   8. Select your CD drive in the "Drives" selection on the bottom.
  35.   9. Double click "Win9x" in the "Folders" selection.
  36.  10. "ASUS6600.INF" appears in the filename selection.
  37.  11. Click "OK" button.
  38.  12. You will see a list of video cards. Select type of your VGA card
  39.      and click "OK".
  40.  13. After copying all files of the driver, it will back to
  41.      "Change Display Type".
  42.  14. Select Monitor type if necessary.
  43.  15. Click "Close" button and "Display Properties" box appears.
  44.  16. Click "Apply" button and "System Setting Change" box appears.
  45.  17. Click "Yes" to restart your Windows.
  46.  18. When Windows starts up, your video adapter is now ready to use.
  47.  19. Note that this method will not install DirectX runtime libraries.
  48.      You must install it by yourself. You also can not uninstall display
  49.      driver.

  51. Method 3 (ASUS Autorun. Quick installation)
  52.   1. Start Windows.
  53.   2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  54.   3. The AutoPlay function of CD-ROM will work and pop up ASUS Autorun
  55.      window.
  56.   4. Select Install V6600 Series display driver option.
  57.   5. Follow the instructions on dialog. Driver will be installed and
  58.      request for restart.
  59.   6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

  61. Method 4 (Run ASUS installation program directly)
  62.   1. Start Windows.
  63.   2. Put ASUS driver CD into CD-ROM drive.
  64.   3. Change to "D:\Win9x" directory and execute "V66SETUP.EXE". You also can
  65.      change to "D:\Win9x\West" or "D:\Win9x\East" directory (depending on
  66.      your language) for multi-language support installation.
  67.   4. Run "setup.exe".
  68.   5. Follow the instructions. Driver will be installed and request for
  69.      restarting.
  70.   6. Reboot system and your video adapter is now ready to use.

  74. Installation Notes
  75. ------------------
  76.  
  77. 1. If you are working under windows 95 , you have to install DirectDraw
  78.    before installing MPEG driver and player. The DirectDraw installation
  79.    files can be found at \DirectX6 and \DirectX7.
  80.  
  81. 2. If your motherboard uses Intel, VIA or ALi chipset with AGP bus,
  82.    you can install their AGP GART driver by executing VGInst.exe under
  83.    \VGARTD directory. It will enable their AGP functions on Windows 95
  84.    OSR 2.1 (If your motherboard uses SiS AGP chipset, please contact
  85.    SiS for newest driver to be compatible with ASUS V6600 Series).
  86.  
  87. 3. Windows 95/98 OpenGL ICD and video capture driver (for TV models only)
  88.    have been included.
  89.  
  90. 4. Quick installation works only when it finds that Primary Display is
  91.    V6600 Series or device node exists. You can also ignore the warning
  92.    dialog and continue to install driver. If it do not work, you must install
  93.    driver via Windows PnP dialog or Display property page (use ASUS6600.INF).
  94.  
  95. 5. To make better capturing performane, you may need to check:
  96.    1) Make sure DMA mode is enabled if you use IDE DMA/33 or DMA/66 hard-drives.
  97.       (Control Panel => System => Device Manager => Disk Drives =>
  98.        Properties => Settings => Options => DMA)
  99.    2) Run Disk Defragmenter (DeFrag.exe) if hard driver is near full.

  103. Trouble Shootings
  104. ------------------
  105.  
  106. 1. After installing the driver, Windows 95/98 doesn't prompt me for restarting
  107.    and the driver still doesn't work after I reboot it by myself.
  108.  
  109.    You may have installed similar drivers before. Try the following steps
  110.    to install:
  111.  
  112.    (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  113.    (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  114.    (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  115.    (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
  116.    (5) If "Display adapters" appears in the list, click it.
  117.        If "Display adapters" doesn't appear, jump to step 9 and continue.
  118.  
  119.    (6) The name of your card will be listed in the box. Double click it.
  120.    (7) The properties box of your card appears. Select "Driver" tab.
  121.    (8) Click "Update Driver.." and follow the installation steps.
  122.  
  123.    (9) Click "Other devices" you will see your card is listed.
  124.   (10) Click on the name of card, the properties box appears.
  125.        Select "Driver" tab.
  126.   (11) Click "Change Driver.." and follow the installation steps.

  128. 2. After installation and restarting, Windows 95/98 informs me that display
  129.    setting is still incorrect. What can I do?
  130.  
  131.    There may be conflict between previous and current display drivers.
  132.    This is caused by not complete removal of previous display driver. Try
  133.    the following steps to remove it:
  134.  
  135.    (1) Use right button of mouse to click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.
  136.    (2) Select "Properties" and "System Properties" box appears
  137.    (3) Click on "Device Manager" tab
  138.    (4) You will see a list of devices on your computer.
  139.    (5) Open "Display adapters" in the list (double click it).
  140.    (6) You will find two (or more) conflicted adapters listed here.
  141.    (7) Remove all previous adapters by selecting them and press "Remove"
  142.    (8) Close Device Manager and restart Windows 95/98.
  143.    (9) Now display driver will work correctly.
