  34. DATELINE:  Tampa, FL, USA - November 23, 2194
  35.  
  36.     US Marine forces were deployed to an unnamed island SE of Costa
  37.     Rica early today in an effort to "crackdown" on suspicious
  38.     activities there.  The island is currently under ownership of the 
  39.     Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC). In a press release just moments 
  40.     ago, General Manklow is quoted as saying, "...The UAC was recently 
  41.     found guilty of negligence in the assault on Earth by other-dimension 
  42.     forces and it now appears as if the UAC knew of the danger involved 
  43.     in such experimentation.  We have discovered a paddock on a remote 
  44.     island that was apparently established to provide a stable, secure
  45.     environment for creatures that were "retrieved" from the dimension
  46.     portals.  In this environment, UAC scientists had hoped to observe
  47.     the behavior of these beings and perhaps even communicate with them.
  48.     But something has happened there, something for which the UAC staff
  49.     didn't have the foresight to plan, and, as a result, my men are 
  50.     having to put their lives in jeapordy today."  More to follow as this
  51.     story unfolds.

  53. MISSION:
  54.  
  55.     General Manklow has handpicked you as one of his "Elite Team Alpha."
  56.     The few of you chosen are each handed the following brief:
  57.  
  58.     -The UAC base on Island "Omega" was constructed as a research
  59.     facility but designed with a natural facade so as to be aesthetically
  60.     pleasing to its inhabitants.  Several standard "containment fields" 
  61.     (i.e. invisible force fences using deployed force poles placed at
  62.     regular intervals) were installed to prevent roaming and/or
  63.     stampeding and possible injury to the new inhabitants as a result.
  64.     What was not standard for these fields was a new force science merging
  65.     energy fields and teleportation theory.  These "telefences" eliminated
  66.     the minor physiological and psychological injury that can result from
  67.     energy field impact - they merely teleported the "field offender" to
  68.     a safe location, never actually allowing them to come in contact with
  69.     the force field.
  70.     -This much we do know from the last communication out of the base.
  71.     There has been a massive power surge at Omega.  As a result, the
  72.     telefences are behaving erratically.  One section is down completely,
  73.     others seem to be intact but during a simultaneous entry allow 1
  74.     field offender to pass through, and still others have had their
  75.     destination frequencies disturbed.  As a result, some creatures have
  76.     escaped and are "on the prowl."  Fortunately, due to the holiday, UAC
  77.     staff was at a minimum although it is believed that of the 5 who were
  78.     on duty, 0 survived.
  79.     -There are unconfirmed reports that a rogue rebel group of Marines
  80.     were at fault for this catastrophe.
  81.     -Your mission is to get in and do one of two things:
  82.         1.  Restore power to the telefences and return stray
  83.             creatures to their exhibits.
  84.         2.  Destroy all creatures for safe entry by civilians.
  85.         3.  If any humans are posing as Marines, shoot on site.
  86.     -Good luck and good shootin'!

  88. You are led to the teleport pad and administered last rites.  You wonder if
  89. you should have stayed home and played Tetris today as you step on the pad...
