Please be reminded that unless you are having problem with your current system, or if you need to support a new device which is not supported by the current BIOS version, there will be no real needs for you to update the BIOS.
BIOS Updating Procedure
Following are some very critical notes regarding BIOS updating procedure. If you have not flashed a BIOS before, this is what you must read first before you start any BIOS updating.
1. Boot up with a clean OS. You can used one of the following methods:
If you boot up with DOS, press <F5> at the time that screen says "Verifying DMI information"
If you use Windows 98 or Windows 95, press <SHIFT><F5> at the time that screen says "Verifying DMI Information"
Format a bootable floppy disk, and remove both <CONFIG.SYS> and <AUTOEXEC.BAT> files on the disk. Then copy the BIOS file and the Award flashing utility to this disk.
Now, use this floppy disk to boot up again.
NOTE: The purpose of the above procedure is to make sure that there is absolutely no memory management utility, like <EMM386.EXE>, resides in the system memory after boot up. This type of the utility will affect the BIOS flashing procedure, and will cause the mainboard to STOP functioning.
2. At the DOS PROMPT, type in AWDFLASH <BIOS file name>. It is highly recommended to save the current BIOS file, in case you want to abort the BIOS updating and return to the current version.
3. Now, answer with "YES" to update the BIOS.
4. After the completion, RESET the system, go to BIOS setup and make desirable changes.
STOP!!!!
If you are not confident with the above procedures, do not go any further. Contact your mainboard or system RESELLER for assistance.
What to do when update failed and the system cannot boot up any more??
If you fail to flash the BIOS, you have one of the following options to take:
Bring the mainboard or the complete system back to the RESELLER, and ask them to reprogram the BIOS for you.
Or, you can contact one of our branch offices closest to your location. Since we service our direct customers only, service fee may be charged.
