  6. Welcome to the first beta in the TurboLinux 2.1 beta cycle!
  7.  
  8. Since this is an early beta, not everything is working yet:
  9.  
  10. * There is no APM kernel.
  11. * The sysboot.img is not current (don't use it).
  12. * You have to specify an IP address, not a hostname, for an
  13.   FTP install.
  14.  
  15.  
  16. In addition, there are some things that I didn't have time to test:
  17.  
  18. * LOADLIN install launch method
  19. * CD boot install launch method
  20. * SMB install
  21. * HD partition install
  22. * Mounting Fat32 partitions
  23. * Desktop tools compatibility w/ new versions of perl and perl-Tk
  24. * 'rescue' mode on boot floppy
  25.  
  26. So, please try these things and let me know how badly they're broken :)

  28. New Features since 2.0:
  29.  
  30. * Installer ported to glibc.
  31. * Kernel 2.0.35 + patches
  32. * pcmcia services support the Ricoh controller in the Sharp Mebius.
  33. * XFree86 3.3.2+X_TT X servers - Truetype font capability.
  34. * Turboxcfg can probe (some) AGP cards (right now only the Mach64 AGP).
  35. * New turbousercfg/xturbousercfg tool.
  36. * egcs replaces gcc
  37. * new asmail and asmodem icons/programs on desktop.
  38. * qt and related baggage is *gone*.
  39. * many updated packages, security fixes, bug fixes, etc.

  41. As usual, please test this disc as thoroughly as you can.  Please make
  42. all reports either to sstone@turbolinux.com or to the
  43. 'tlbeta@ume.pht.co.jp' mailing list address, if you wish to share your
  44. comments with the other beta testers.

  48. * Finish turbofscfg/xturbofscfg
  49. * Finish turbonetcfg/xturbonetcfg
  50. * Finish xturboappmgr (application launcher program for X)
  51. * Improve dependency handling in turbopkg/xturbopkg
  52. * Turboxcfg needs to understand more AGP cards, 32bpp modes, virtual screens.
  53. * Installer needs to have some dialog boxes reflowed, some text changed.
  54. * Finish updating all packages
  55. * Any necessary bug-fixes
  56.  
  57. Please also let me know of any suggestions that you have for improving
  58. TurboLinux.
