  105. Installation
  106. ------------
  107.  
  108. - The Rainbow Runner software installation program stops if you don't have a 
  109.   Rainbow Runner add-on card properly installed in your computer, or if 
  110.   recent MGA display drivers aren't installed.
  111.  
  112. - If you see a message indicating that ActiveMovie cannot be installed, 
  113.   it may be because ActiveMovie is already installed on your computer. 
  114.   If you see this message, click "OK" and continue the Rainbow Runner 
  115.   installation.
  116.  
  117. - You can uninstall Rainbow Runner software using the uninstall program in 
  118.   the Matrox Rainbow Runner program group. You should restart your computer 
  119.   immediately after you run the uninstall program.

  122. Notes, Problems, and Limitations
  123. --------------------------------
  124.  
  125. - There are maximum video window sizes for viewing video files recorded 
  126.   with Rainbow Runner (MJPEG-encoded AVI files) and live video ("TV" or
  127.   "LINE" input). These maximum video window sizes depend on your display 
  128.   settings and graphics card. For more information, see the "Display 
  129.   information" section of your Rainbow Runner Studio manual. 
  130.  
  131. - Using a full-screen DOS window or changing display settings (resolution or 
  132.   color palette) may cause problems if, at the same time, you're playing back 
  133.   or recording a video file, or using the Closed Captioning feature.
  134.  
  135. - Suspend mode is not supported when using the Rainbow Runner software or 
  136.   when using any of the TV Out modes.
  137.  
  138. - When you drag-and-drop video files onto the PC-VCR Remote icon, long file 
  139.   names are converted to the old 8.3 DOS-naming style in the PC-VCR Remote 
  140.   menu window and on video window title bar.
  141.  
  142. - Capturing video to a file while outputting video to your TV may cause 
  143.   "jittering" in your computer monitor display if your video source 
  144.   (video input line or TV signal) is unstable.
  145.  
  146. - If Microsoft Media Player does not respond, try clicking on the 
  147.   Windows desktop background, then clicking on Media Player - this may 
  148.   restore control.
  149.  
  150. - Problems may occur if you change display settings (resolution or color 
  151.   palette) or switch to full-screen DOS while running video programs 
  152.   (programs that capture, play back or edit video).
  153.  
  154. - Only one program at a time can use Rainbow Runner hardware. Before 
  155.   starting a video program, close any other video program that may be 
  156.   running.
  157.  
  158. - Because of a limitation in Microsoft Video for Windows, video files 
  159.   you capture are limited to a 2 GB size.
  160.  
  161. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV out mode is supported only 
  162.   with a 16-bit color palette. (Note that many games support only an 8-bit 
  163.   color palette. If you're using a Millennium II graphics card, these games 
  164.   can't be viewed on a TV.) 
  165.  
  166. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, only live video playback ("TV" or
  167.   "LINE" input) is supported in a video window if you're using a 32-bit color 
  168.   palette. For more information, see the "Display information" section of your
  169.   Rainbow Runner Studio manual.
  170.  
  171. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, TV output in full-screen 
  172.   VGA/DOS display modes are not supported.
  173.  
  174. - With a Matrox Millennium II graphics card, placing a window over a video
  175.   window may cause the video window to go to black. (The video continues 
  176.   to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.) This happens at 
  177.   the following display settings:

  184.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the 
  185.   video window, or move the video window in front of all other windows.

  187. - When the "Use dual-fields in full-screen mode" feature is active in
  188.   PC-VCR Remote (see its context-sensitive Help), placing any window over 
  189.   the full-screen video window causes the video window to go black. (The 
  190.   video continues to play, but it's not displayed in the video window.) 
  191.   The video plays normally when you remove all windows overlapping the 
  192.   video window.
  193.  
  194. - The Matrox Vidcap driver is designed to work only with 32-bit programs
  195.   (programs designed for Windows 95). You can't use 16-bit programs 
  196.   (programs designed for Windows 3.1) with Rainbow Runner.
  197.  
  198. - For PC-VCR Remote video snapshots, only the portion of the video 
  199.   window that is inside your Windows desktop area is saved.
  200.  
  201. - Ensoniq Sound Cards (certain models): Some Ensoniq sound card, for example 
  202.   the SoundScape Vivo 90, will lose audio when seeking or stopping and 
  203.   restarting any video file. This happens when double clicking on a file or 
  204.   using Active Movie through MediaPlayer. To avoid this problem, use the 
  205.   PC-VCR Remote to view your video files.
  206.  
  207. - ESS Sound chips (certain models): Some sound card equiped with the ESS 
  208.   audio chip, for example the ESS 1878 found on laptops, may experience a 
  209.   loss of audio-video synchronisation when playing back video files. Video 
  210.   will be late compared to audio whenever pausing and restarting the playback.
  211.   To correct this problem, click on the PC-VCR Remote's Playback Status Bar 
  212.   to jump to a particular area in the file.
  213.  
  214. - With the Microsoft NetMeeting program, use "preview" mode. Netmeeting 
  215.   doesn't support "overlay" mode for Rainbow Runner. For more information 
  216.   on preview mode, see the Rainbow Runner Studio manual.
  217.  
  218. - Using TV output, you can't run games in fit-to-screen mode. When 
  219.   outputting games to TV, overscan mode will be used by default.
  220.  
  221. - You will encounter problems using Adobe After Effects with Matrox MJPEG 
  222.   compression. To avoid any problems, create video files using the 
  223.   "RGB uncompressed" setting. To compress your RGB video files, insert them 
  224.   into Ulead MediaStudio Video Editor, then create a video file using the 
  225.   "Matrox MJPEG" setting.
