  1. This document is provided to help you install and configure the ACPI
  2. PCI Bridge patch file. The Acpi.exe patch file is provided by VIA and fixes
  3. all versions of Win 95. This patch file adds files to Windows. These files
  4. allow Windows to correctly identify and configure the PCI Bridge device for
  5. a VIA chipset motherboard. If you do not know which chipset your motherboard
  6. uses please contact your motherboard reseller.

  9. Please follow these steps.
  10.  
  11. 1. Click on the "Start" button on the desktop.
  12. 2. Select "Settings" then "Control panel".
  13. 3. Open the "System" icon.
  14. 4. You should now be in the "System properties" window, click on the 
  15.    "Device manager" tab.
  16. 5. Open the "Other devices" listing. 
  17. 6. If you do not see an "Other devices" listing you do not need to 
  18.    continue with this installation.
  19. 7. If you do not see a "PCI Bridge" device listed you do not need to 
  20.    continue with this installation.
  21. 8. Close all of the windows on the desktop and any programs that are    
  22.    currently running.
  23. 9. Click on the "Start" button on the desktop.
  24. 10. Select "Run".
  25. 11. Browse for the setup.exe file that extracted from the Acpi.exe file 
  26.     when you executed the Acpi.exe file.
  27. 12. Click on the "OK" button to run the setup.exe file.
  28. 13. Use the utility to install the "VIA ACPI patch" and restart your
  29.     computer. 
  30. 14. When your computer has returned to the desktop, click on the "Start"
  31.     button.
  32. 15. Select "Settings" then "Control panel".
  33. 16. Open the "System" icon.
  34. 17. You should now be in the "System properties" window, click on the 
  35.     "Device manager" tab.
  36. 18. Open the "Other devices" listing.
  37. 19. Open the "PCI Bridge" listing.
  38. 20. Click on the "Driver" tab.
  39. 21. Click on the "Update driver" or "Change driver" button.
  40. 22. Click on "No, select driver from list" or "other devices".
  41. 23. Click on the "Next" or "OK" button.
  42. 24. Click to choose the "Show compatible hardware" or 
  43.     "Show compatible devices" option. 
  44. 25. Click on the "VIA Power management controller".
  45. 26. Click on the "Finish" or "OK" button.
  46. 27. Click on the "Close" or "OK" button.
  47. 28. Click on the "OK" button.
