  2. About the file :

  4.         This readme file contains Flash ROM installation procedures when
  5.         you need to update the BIOS. You have one of the following ways
  6.         to get the BIOS for your system.
  7.  
  8.         . update diskette from your dealer or retail store
  9.         . update files from manufacture's BBS No:886-2-6018227
  10.         . update files from manufacture's Internet Addr:www.iwill.com.tw

  14.          # Flash EPROM provides better upgradeability and a convenient way #
  15.          # to update sytem BIOS. Please follow the next procedures "How to #
  16.          # update the BIOS" to do the correct setp. If your installation   #
  17.          # procedures is not completed or encounter unexpected error(s).   #
  18.          # The system will not boot anymore.                               #

  21. About the model of motherboard :
  22.  
  23.         Before your system has been updated BIOS, you must make sure the
  24.         motherbaord was updated with its correct BIOS.ex:
  25.  
  26.         Model:DP6NS               Filename: DNSmmdd.BIN
  27.                                  (Note:mmdd means month and date)
  28.  
  29. How to update the BIOS :
  30.  
  31.      1. Check if you need to update the BIOS - turn on your computer and you
  32.         will see the following message shown on the screen.
  33.  
  34.                 Award Modular BIOS V4.50PG, An Energy Star Ally
  35.                 Copyright (c) 1984-94, Award Software, Inc.
  36.  
  37.                 DP6NS (mmm.dd.1997)
  38.  
  39.         Compare the date shown in the above message with the new
  40.         BIOS files DNSmmdd.BIN you have. The DNSmmdd.BIN should be a new
  41.         one. The new BIOS file should be located in the same directory
  42.         with this readme file and the Flash Program AWDFLASH.EXE
  43.  
  44.      2. Turn on your computer and enter the DOS prompt. Please note that
  45.         you can not use any protect mode application or driver (such as
  46.         EMM386, QEMM386) when updating BIOS. Comment out those command in
  47.         the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file and reboot your system again.
  48.  
  49.         If you are using MS-DOS 6.0 or later, you can do this by press [F5]
  50.         function key while the "Staring MS-DOS..." line is on the screen.
  51.         The MS-DOS will skip your CONFIG.SYS and
  52.         and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. The AWDFLASH.EXE file can not work under
  53.         protected mode.
  54.  
  55.         If you are using Windows 95 or later, you can do this by press
  56.         [Shift]+ [F5] function key while the "Staring Windows..." line is on
  57.         the screen. The Windows 95 will start Command Prompt Only.
  58.  
  59.      3. Insert DNSmmdd.BIN diskette into drive A or B and type :
  60.  
  61.             A:\AWDFLASH /c            or    B:\AWDFLASH /c
  62.  
  63.             A:\AWDFLASH DNSmmdd.bin /c or    B:\AWDFLASH DNSmmdd.bin /c
  64.  
  65.         the Falsh Memory Write Utility will ask for the filename of the
  66.         new BIOS. Enter "DNSmmdd.BIN" and press [Enter] key. The utility
  67.         will ask you to save the OLD ROM BIOS code in the
  68.         diskette when the utility give a message "Do You Want To Save BIOS
  69.         (Y/N)" and press [Y]. The file is a backup of your
  70.         original BIOS from the motherboard. The next message will ask
  71.         "Are you sure to program(Y/N)". If you press the [Y] key. The utility
  72.         will load the new code into Falsh ROM.
  73.  
  74.         The new utility parameter /c means clear CMOS during BIOS has been
  75.         flashed.
  76.  
  77.      4. When completed loading the new BIOS, you must power off or reboot the
  78.         system, and enter the CMOS Setup Utility before going any
  79.         further by pressing [DEL] key. In the Setup Utility, choose "LOAD
  80.         SETUP DEFAULTS" option and respond "Y(es)" to load the hardware
  81.         default value for proper initialization. If you have not LOAD SETUP
  82.         DEFAULTS. The mothboard's CMOS value was still the old BIOS.

  86.          #  You must Load SETUP DEFAULTS for the updated motherbaord BIOS. #
  87.          #  Each version BIOS has its own CMOS difinition. Without doing   #
  88.          #  this, the system will be setup in Umknown Configuration.       #

  93.      1. The DNS0605.BIN support All PCB Version of DP6NS motherboard.

  95.      2. This BIOS has been tested to replace the following BIOS.

  97.         DP6NS (Jan.09.1997)

  99.      3. The DNS0605.BIN engineering change:
  100.         a.) Compatible with NEC 328MES-6T with Parity, made by Century.
  101.             BIOS Setting: EDO/60ns on 66MHz Bus Frequency
  102.             Register Detail: One clock Delay of RAS to CAS.
  103.                              One additional wait state of MA Wait State.
  104.  
  105.      4. The Source code of DNS0605 and DNS0109 is same.
