  2. Installing HP Scanning Software from Norton Desktop

  4. If you are running MicroSoft Windows (3.0 or 3.1) using Norton Desktop as the
  5. shell, you must change the shell to be PROGMAN.EXE before installing the
  6. HP Scanning software.
  7.  
  8. How to change the shell:
  9.     - Run Windows' NOTEPAD and open the SYSTEM.INI file which is in the
  10.         "WINDOWS" directory.
  11.     - In the [boot] section you will find a line that reads
  12.        shell=ndw.exe
  13.  
  14.     - Make a copy of this line and insert a ';' as the leftmost character in the
  15.        first copy.
  16.     - Change the second copy to read
  17.         shell=progman.exe
  18.  
  19.     - Restart Windows (Exit then type WIN at the DOS prompt and press ENTER)
