  60. The installation is covered in the "online.doc" file. 
  61. You can view this file with WordPad.

  63. The installation process can be customized by modifying the "mga.ini"
  64. file on the diskette. Examples of customization options include:
  65. default installation path, default driver performance switches,
  66. default schemes, etc. The file is self-documented. This type of 
  67. customization should be carried out by advanced users only.

  77. Notes, Problems, and Limitations

  80. - Another MGA Millennium driver
  81.  
  82.   Another MGA Millennium driver is included in the Windows Driver
  83.   Library (WDL). The WDL Millennium driver does not have, or support, the
  84.   PowerDesk enhancements. In the "Adapter Type" list, the WDL Millennium 
  85.   driver is called the "Matrox MGA Millennium", while the PowerDesk one is
  86.   called "Matrox MGA Millennium PowerDesk".

  88.   If you have the CD-ROM version of Windows 95, this library is included in 
  89.   the \Drivers\Display directory. WDL is also accessible from CompuServe 
  90.   and other means. See the Windows 95 "display.txt" file for more details.

  92. - Windows 95 "display.txt" file
  93.  
  94.   Windows 95 comes with a readme file called "display.txt" containing 
  95.   valuable information related to display adapters.
  96.   Note that the remarks about the Matrox MGA adapters refer to the Microsoft
  97.   MGA Ultima/Impression driver, not to your MGA Millennium adapter.

  99. - Adobe Type Manager limitation
  100.  
  101.   When Adobe Type Manager is installed, you cannot run the driver if the
  102.   "Advanced Graphics Acceleration Settings" is set to none. Note that ATM 
  103.   is installed as part of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is an Adobe problem
  104.   documented in the Windows 95 "display.txt" file.
  105.  
  106. - Windows 95 SuperVGA monitors not supported
  107.  
  108.   Windows 95 provides "Standard monitor types". This includes various 
  109.   SuperVGA monitors supporting resolutions from 800 X 600 to 1600 X 1200. 
  110.   These monitor types do not specify refresh rate ranges, which causes 
  111.   our driver to reject them and work as if there is no monitor selected. 
  112.   In this case, the driver will output resolutions up to 1600 X 1200, 
  113.   which might not be supported by your actual monitor. Therefore the 
  114.   SuperVGA monitor types SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH THE MILLENNIUM
  115.   DRIVER. Instead, try to find your specific monitor name (or type) in 
  116.   the Windows 95 list, or use one of the generic monitors from the 
  117.   MGA Monitor Program.
  118.  
  119. - Monitor Refresh rates with a virtual desktop
  120.  
  121.   When working with a virtual desktop, the refresh rate used for the 
  122.   Windows 95 monitor will be derived from the virtual desktop resolution
  123.   ("Desktop area") rather than from the display resolution ("Display
  124.   area"). This typically will result in an inferior refresh rate, and if 
  125.   the virtual desktop resolution is not supported by your monitor 
  126.   (e.g. 1600 X 1200), the default refresh rate of only 60 Hz will be used.

  128.   This limitation does not occur when using the Matrox MGA Monitor Program,
  129.   where the refresh rates are taken from the display resolution.
  130.  
  131. - Matrox Monitor Program and 1152 X 864
  132.  
  133.   Take note that an old MGA.INF file created by the Windows 3.1 Monitor
  134.   Program will not contain any data for the 1152 X 864 resolution, forcing
  135.   the Windows 95 driver to work at the default 60 Hz refresh. Refresh rates 
  136.   equal or close to the earlier 1152 X 882 resolution are available in the 
  137.   new MGA.MON file. You can "refresh" your MGA.INF file by simply reselecting
  138.   the same monitor you had and save it.
  139.   
  140.   In 1152 X 864, the Monitor Program will not immediately perform its Test 
  141.   Pattern with the proper timings. Please first save the "new" MGA.INF file 
  142.   and reboot your system before relying on the Test Pattern in 1152 X 864.  
  143.  
  144. - Monitors in interlaced mode
  145.  
  146.   Some old monitors such as the IBM 8514 and the NEC 3D do not support non-
  147.   interlaced mode in all resolutions. The Millennium driver does not properly
  148.   handle interlaced mode under the Windows 95 monitor mechanism, so if you
  149.   own one of these monitors, please use the MGA Monitor Program.

  151. - MultiMedia Superpack CD-ROM 
  152.  
  153.   The CD-ROM provided with your MGA Millennium should not be used with 
  154.   Windows 95 at this point. It is meant to be used with Windows 3.x.

  156. - Windows 95 "Plus Pack" with "Show window contents while dragging"
  157.  
  158.   
  159.   We have noted erratic window repainting problems with the above feature
  160.   under the MGA 2.0 PowerDesk driver. This problem is still under 
  161.   investigation and seems to be related to Windows main message queue.
  162.  
  163.   The problem has been seen so far in Lotus 4, Access and AMIPro. The
  164.   recommended workaround is to disable the "dragging" feature.
  165.  
  166.   Since the problem could possibly also occur without the Plus Pack,
  167.   another workaround is to close the MGA Control Center, the program in 
  168.   PowerDesk which traps Windows messages for the various desktop
  169.   features. To do so, press Ctrl-Alt-Del and stop the "Mgactrl" task.

  171.   Note however that when the MGA Control Center is stopped the PowerDesk
  172.   hotkeys no longer work. Also note that the Control Center will be
  173.   restarted automatically everytime you invoke the Display Property
  174.   applet from the Control Panel, or the Matrox QuickAccess panel, so
  175.   you will have to repeat the Ctrl-Alt-Del operation again to avoid 
  176.   the problem.

  181.   file is included on your Matrox floppy disk, and installed in your 
  182.   \Matrox\Millen folder.
