Five Field Kono (2.0) For Windows
This game will only run under Windows 3.1 or higher, even Windows 95
should be able to run it (although it might look ugly). There is no
installation procedure (as the program does not require that any
modifications be made to the WIN.INI file or any other system file. I
personally hate the way in which almost every Windows programs write
all sorts of crap into your Windows directories which you never know
about.)
Principle enhancements to Version 2.0 from 1.0
- The thinking gauge changed from a bar along the bottom of the
board to the square at the bottom of the board.
- Counters have been added for each player so that if nobody is
able to cover all of the spots of the opponent, a winner can
still be declared based on who has made the most progress
instead of having a stalemate.
- The computer's thinking process has been modified so that it
will not always try to avoid a stalemate if its going to win on
points anyway. The computer's thinking has also been enhanced
to make it "smarter."
- Stalemate counter flashes when there are 5 or fewer moves to a
stalemate.
- The How To Play section allows you to speed up or slow down the
instructions.
- In the quit section, corrected a problem with the message being
cut off or not being displayed at all if there is a game in
progress.

Files VBRUN300.DLL, SPIN.VBX, CNTR.VBX, THREED.VBX, MSOLE2.VBX,
CMDIALOG.VBX might already exist on your computer in the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory as other programs written in Visual
Basic might require them and their installation programs might
have previously copied these files onto your computer.
This is computerized version of a game for which at present I cannot find
any information for, although I got it out of a book, so it must be an old
game. The first version of this game was written in 1995 by me (Bruce Calder)
mostly as an exercise to learn Visual Basic in which this game was entirely
written.) The 2.0 version was completed in 1996.
You should even be able to run this program directly from a diskette (as
long as all the files indicated exist on the diskette). In File Manager,
select the A drive and double click on KONO20.EXE and the game should start.
It will probably run a little slower than usual however.
You may make as many copies of this game and distribute them freely as long
as all of the files listed above are included except OPTIONS.KON & USER.KON,
although you must include USER.KON as well if it exists or is created. You
may not charge more than a reasonable distribution fee for this game. If
you sell this game in a store or at any type of commercial establishment
(flea mearket etc.) you may not charge more than $5.00, and this text file
must be included without modification. If this game is included in a CD ROM
compilation, contact me first and I will register you free of charge with
your own user code as long as you send to me after 2 copies of the finished
product as it will be sold commercially.
Bruce Calder will not be held responsible in any way for any damage to your
current software or hardware caused by this program (or the disk it is
contained on) either directly or indirectly.
