This is an updated and enhanced STARTUP.PS file for printing
Macintosh generated PostScript files with UltraScript.
This STARTUP.PS provides 3 basic functions:
1. It handles LaserWriter specific commands not supported by
UltraScipt. Some commands are emulated, and some are simply
ignored.
2. It handles out-of-range conditions with the moveto and lineto
commands, since UltraScript's "world" is smaller than Adobe
PostScript.
3. It provides an (optional) error handler which will print as
much of the page as possible when an error occurs and prints the
error at the bottom of the page. This part of the file is
commented out (i.e. turned off) - to use it, simply remove the
percent sign (%) from the start of each line in the error handler
portion of the file. The start of this area is marked by a
comment.
If you are not familiar with the use of STARTUP.PS files, you simply
put the file in the same folder as UltraScript (USCRIPT.PRG) and
UltraScript will automatically detect its presence and use it.
Using this STARTUP.PS file, you should be able to print PostScript
files generated by virtually any Macintosh application using any
LaserWriter/LaserPrep version. There should not be any problem using
this with ST (or other) PostScript files.
One minor warning is in order, though; with some LaserPrep versions,
you should not 'Add Linefeeds' when transverting from the Mac disk to
the ST disk. Likewise, it's not a good idea to load LaserPrep into a
text editor and "pretty it up" by inserting tabs, etc.
Note: this is an updated and enhanced version of the STARTUP.PS file
that was included with Spectre 2.3. It is in the public domain and
may be modified/used/distributed in any way the user (you) want.
