REAL-3D to QRT-RAYTRACE CONVERTOR
---------------------------------
Since PhotoChrome has the ablity to show 24-Bit graphics at a very
reasonable 15-Bit resolution (STE), it seems a shame to be limited to using
output from just QRT itself. It would be far nicer to be able to access not
just ST work, but a whole range of 24-Bit screens and demos floating around
P.D. libraries etc. With this in mind, I set about writing the 'REAL2RAW'
utility. It is designed to convert broadcast-quality screens produced by
'Real-3D' (a bloody good Amiga rendering package) to the QRT 'RAW' format
on the ST. This will allow PhotoChrome to load them as standard QRT screens
and display them in the top 12-bit or 15-bit modes.
The Amiga packages themselves (and there are a few) obviously cannot
show any 24-bit pics the user may have produced, that would require a
graphics card, but must make do with 16/32/64 or 4096 colour modes at best.
The sad fact is, that this program seems to make a far better job of
displaying such screens than the Amiga does itself...
This program is in no way limited to 'Real-3D' output, the 24-Bit IFF
file is a standard format I would imagine is produced by most 24-Bit packages
on the Amiga or even PC!
